Saturday night 8:30pm only 12 patrons. You order via an app on your mobile. Staff has zero engagement or personality. A house old fashion menu item was not server with an orange peal. Also was more syrup than anything also was server with two straws. Food was not served in the order it was place. Snacks, Cold olives, came after the main meal(no apology offered). The slow cooked beef needs Salt and pepper. The wine reduction needs a beef Demi added. The "Buttery" mash had bot a lick of Butter flavor. A rather large pub with a quaint outdoor garden. The food was ok. Nothing too special but satisfied our hunger after a long flight from NY. I had the cheese burger which was flavorless and rubbery. My girlfriend and I are from out of the country and wanted to visit a fun British pub. We were hungry before we went so we looked at the menu and didn't see anything safe that she could eat at the pub (she has dairy and gluten allergies). Instead we got a small takeout from the Itsu cold ready to eat section before heading over. Itsu was closing so we decided to head to the pub and I asked the woman behind the counter if it would be okay to eat our food there if we were drinking too, she agreed but asked us to eat outside. That's okay because there were tables outside so I bought a Guinness and we headed to our table. About 10 minutes later a dark haired woman with blue or green eyes came out and demanded that we close our boxes immediately (these were small single sushi roll boxes, it could be considered a snack). We agreed and did not try to argue, I said I'm sorry and that I asked the staff, before we purchased a drink and sat, if we could eat our food here. She went on a tirade and it was very uncomfortable and felt unwelcoming. She was extremely rude and confrontational about it even though we were not objecting. She did not ask politely or apologize for the situation but instead said "you need to close your boxes now". After striking out at William IV (Sunday Roast ends at 3pm -- oh, the humanity!), we found ourselves situated for a bit of Sunday eating at the formidable Eagle. We snagged the last remaining corner table...it was comfortably busy and buzzing for a Sunday, with groups and couples scattered about, enjoying drinks and food. We grabbed an ancient game of Scrabble and got comfortable, anticipating drinks and food... And then we waited. And waited. And then asked the woman at the bar, if in fact, we were to order there. Nope. She did give us one menu. And then we waited. And waited. FINALLY -- a waitress came by and took our order and things could get underway, but 25+ minutes of just sitting around waiting didn't get us off to a good start. She was quite delightful, but I just have to think there was a gap in communication somewhere that left us stranded for so long. I'd have happily hoofed to the bar to place my orders (or made my husband do so -- one must take advantage of being pregnant in some way, right? RIGHT), but that was not the case. Things seemed to tick a bit slowly over here at The Eagle, but all would be forgiven with a delectable Roast. Meh. Unfortunately, my little chicken roast was cooked to within an inch of salvation. Everything on the plate had the look/feel/taste that it had been "overdone." Chicken was dry, potatoes were "squishy," carrots were shriveled, Yorkshire puddings burned to a crisp. My roast got nuked to high heavens. The Eagle's menu has this mysterious quality of making offerings sound oh-so-much-better than reality. Whomever wrote the menu, bravo! It's too bad the kitchen can't quite back it up. Don't get me wrong, the pub fare is just fine and it'll suit you if you're hungry, but it certainly isn't the reason to come here. Nor was the sad little corner brownie I got with "vanilla pod ice cream" which was really just plain ice cream, and a crusty brownie that tasted as if it might've come from a box. Again, I like box brownies so I'm not really complaining -- but when one expects "Double Dark Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Pod Ice cream" and gets something akin to college kitchen special, well...you know. Best to return for a few pints and that antique Scrabble -- we had a nice time enjoying that and the corner table, enjoying a Sunday evening. The food is a letdown, but perhaps if more drunk it is passable. I wouldn't return for the Roast (will have to get my act together to get to William IV before 3, apparently!). The pub itself is common fare and fine for what pubs are good for, 3-stars will do. read more

The Eagle suggests a place out from something like in the film Dracula a bit vampireish. Zoning in for a visit with my friends was very much like being in a typical London inn. With the bar counter in the centre of the room, the old and beered wooden floor planks give it the classic non formal everybody come in feel. A few planks here and there seem to be ripping themselves off. I almost tripped over one since the lighting in this place is dim but not dingy. It was a crowded evening for Sunday, so with three bartenders of whom one was rushing to the kitchen and bar till to the tables serving ordinary pub food; you can only guess the service was a bit slow. However we got our drinks and chatted away around the wooden tables. The other visitors seemed to be creative and trendy, and its no doubt because of the various galleries and creative businesses in the area. For the festive season a 2 course meal costs £18.00 and for 3 courses £22.00. They also have a buffet option starting from £5.95 per person. read more

I want so badly to give this place 5 stars. What's it got? Great beers on tap at reasonable prices (four Real Ales + some belgians + Sierra Nevada at a reasonable price. Totally decent-but-not-spectacular food the opportunity to stand out in the street and drop your glass where the Filth will roll over it on their way and get flat tyres. A fabulous, spacious interior with enough space to sit. Reasonable (for London) prices. The downside? The staff is so fecking stoned they can't tell who's next. Even if you've overcome your reserve and gotten a bit rude and assertive. They just won't fecking serve you, to the point where you want to leave, but the Deuchar's and the Doom Bar and the Sierra keep you in. Though they did a really nice job on my friend's burger when she'd asked for no mayo and they'd sent it out and then gave her a free pint (!) in exchange. Maybe it's me. But me, I can't give more than three stars, til they treat me right. read more

I live in East London around the Bethnal Green area. This part of town is a good walk to the Eagle, yet i still seem to find myself at the Eagle more than at the pubs in my area. The Eagle is a lovely pub with lots of seating and a great garden in the back to sit with your mates and enjoy a pint on a simmering hot evening outside. It does tend to close down a bit early, but it still makes for a great atmosphere. The inside is brilliant with lots of seating for big groups, couches, and other seats if you want a more intimate evening. This pub has yet to disappoint. Another great thing about the Eagle is that you can put in a request for an ale (Vicious) which makes it all the more friendly. Personal story: I left my wallet at this place on a Monday evening.Thankfully after a few phone calls, they had informed us that the wallet was in their possession. My bf picked it up for me to find all the contents still intact along with the same amount of money i left in it before. So not only is this pub people friendly, but trustworthy as well. The Eagle is definitely a pub to go to with a big group of friends or just for a pint. You won't be disappointed and will feel right at home. read more

Great local pub. Good beer selection, not too pricey. They actually have Hoegaarden on tap which is unusual. It's never too crowded and the service is good. What puts this into 4 stars is the beer garden. I love drinking outside, and this beer garden is lovely. A patio with tables and chairs, nicely shaded by trees. I will be spending a good amount of time here this summer. I have not tried the food as of yet, but its on my list! read more

"I think this might be the worst roast I've had in London." Not the highest of praise from my dining companion tonight. But she was right, it was hugely disappointing. The saddest little carrots and the most overcooked brussels sprouts, oily Yorkshire puds and cold, fatty pork with burnt crackling. It was such a let-down. I'd ordered a side of grilled mac and cheese and it was fluorescent orange with an overpowering mustard taste. It was mustard mac and cheese. Everyone has his favourite local - this happens to be mine. But despite the inherent bias of this fact, this is really a top of the line pub. If you're thirsty, the beer selection is fantastic and they frequently change the local selections. If your hungry, the kitchen dishes some above par pub food, but I would recommend hitting up the special bar snacks. Last week I tried the blood pudding and would love another crack at it. The inside is very casual with candles and flowers on wooden tables. But to top it all off, the beer garden in the back will keep me coming back in the summer months when supping outside is more than an option - it's a requirement. read more

Despite living not far away I've tended to avoid the Eagle. I've often walked past it on a Friday night when people are spilling out onto the streetusually someone is throwing up or standing by a pool of vomit. My pace quickens slightly. I of course realize that it is not like that all the time, I just need to time my visit better, which I have done. I have tried midweek and early afternoon on the weekend and this is not a bad place for a drink. A little expensive perhaps, but the drinks are good. They usually have Black Sheep on, but they do change their selection a little. Adnams Kolsch was on when I last visited, which makes for a really nice pint! I like the look and the layout of the place too...some unusual and interesting furniture. In the end it is a bit too cool for me to become a regular, but it is a nice old pub (and how many pubs have a nursery rhyme about them?) read more

I've been to the Eagle numerous times from sitting there quiet on a Sunday afternoon to drinking heavily with my mates. This place I've discovered is a good spot to spend time under any circumstances. They have reasonably priced pints and £10 bottles of house wine. You get a good mix of young hipsters, business professionals, and the older local crowd. They have a plethora of funky seating inside the pub from leather couches to a surgical chair. And the outside beer garden is a sight to see. All in all I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy themselves. read more

The Eagle is your classic English pub that features in the classic nursery rhyme 'Pop Goes The Weasle' (Seriously, so much history here!!). I came here with my workmates for lunch one day and they couldn't wait to tell me about how the pub ties into the nursery rhyme. Not that they needed to, the rhyme itself is written on the wall! It's your typical old pub setting but a little bit on the grander side with high ceilings and wooden booths lining the walls. The burgers here are delicious - I had the West Country beef burger and I got it with bacon jam which was so good! Their menu is quite big though and has plenty of options. I've only been here during the day time but even then it seems like The Eagle could do with having a few more staff on hand as there are often people standing around and hovering, waiting to be served. But if you're looking for a little slice of history up and down the City Road, then head in and out The Eagle. read more

There are many Eagles in London, and they are probably all very similar, but this one will have a special place in my heart as we shut it down once. The mulled wine was warm and spiced just right; the beer selection was above average (included some American favorites of mine, though of course I didn't get any of them), the bartenders are patient and pour well, and the vibe is homey. The bathrooms are clean, and the space is big enough to seat larger groups comfortably(unless it's super busy, then wait). They also have a garden area in the back which isn't too bad when the weather is mild. This place also has the usual pub vibe, and perfect for people just looking to grab a pint or 2 or 4. read more

Thanks to the Qype party, I always always find somewhere new to visit and therefore have a new review to add the following day. This was a good find on the walk back to the tube station at Old Street. I am sure 'lostnights' who was with me would agree. With DJs on at weekends, he wanted to enjoy a bit of the Rum 'n' Bass advertised. The Eagle is a big old pub just off City Road, with modern stylings and funky lights over the bar. I am still very impressed with the excellent drinks choice as there was a fantastic beer and wine lists. We arrived after 11pm on a Thursday night so it is safe to assume late liecnce is in effect here. The food menu including Sunday roasts looked interesting. Personally I might come back to read the weekend papers and get a bite to eat one day, but if I doI only want to sit in the dentists chair by the front door. read more

Nice for a quiet afternoon drink but soon gets busy after work, especially at the London Weekend (Thu-Fri). A decent selection of beers and lagers inc. Doombar :-) Good amount and location of TV screens for the football. Fab beer garden, nice for relaxing! or you can sit or stand out in the street. The best feature of the place is its beer garden ( part of it is roofed, so even when the weather is uncertain you can still enjoy it ). The Eagle is in a word, relaxed. There isn't a time I've gone that I've regretted. The bar staff set the mood with efficient, but not too efficient service, good knowledge of their drinks, and laid-back attitudes that would make Jeff Bridges proud. The Eagle happens to be my local, and I couldn't be happier about it. But I would say that Anyone who is in the area should come have a pint, most likely I'll be the young gentleman drinking a Hogarden next to the dentists' chair. Now I can't say that the Eagle is perfect, but it does have what I look for in a drinking establishment. It has space, good style, and can go from a quiet meal to a real get together that gets a little loose quite quickly. The Eagle has character. Its clientele are mixed in age and every other indicator I can think of, but all seem to be very interesting without giving off 'I'm into myself' vibes. The mid-level prices do not put me off, especially when I enjoy the selection of food and drink on offer, and really all I can say is that it is a perfect balance. The Eagle is a upscale pub without shouting it mixed with a Friday boozer that always ends up being a great time with their new in house DJ sets. A drink at the Eagle easily flows into a few more and meeting or making some friends. I highly recommend this pub for a bit of chillaxing, I may be a little biased towards it, but that comes with the territory of really feeling comfortable. read more

Awful! We booked for 12 for Sunday lunch for my birthday.you would think that they would be prepared as this was pre booked a few days in advance. Oh no, they had no lamb left, and then no beef, it took 2 hours to get the food we requested, even the pork was delayed, the pub was dead so no excuse that it was busy cos it wasn't. Then when the food arrived it was tiny, crap and cold,and it certainly wasn't as described on the menu. The staff didnt know what was going on! No apologies Were given to us, I wrote to complain and haven't even heard a reply. Don't go over priced crap food crap service! read more

I visited The Eagle twice on my trip to London and had a decent time. I was pleasantly surprised to see a selection of cask ales and shocked to see Sierra Nevada on tap. The bartenders were attentive and I didn't have any trouble getting a drink. The prices seemed very reasonable at least to me. The second time we sat in the back yard which was nice. I didn't get to try any of the food but it looked good and a 13 pound 3 course menu seemed like a great deal. I did see a mouse walking around the dining room but I guess that isn't hugely unusual for the place. read more

Great place to watch the World Cup game. I liked their beer selection (they had some local crafts) and the place is pretty big. The Garden was full, but we were able to get a booth. Inside the main area, they had three TVs, and the bar was in the middle, so it was never hard to get to it, though service did get a bit slow the more people there were. read more

Came in here before a gig at the nearby XOYO, took about 15 mins to get served as the bar man (Bar Man 1) served 2 people ahead of me. There was another guy (Bar Man 2) furiously restocking fridges and when Bar Man 1, realising his error in having kept me waiting, asked if Bar Man 2 could serve me - Bar Man 2 just completely ignored Bar Man 1. Great team work guys. I bought a second round from Bar Man 1, nice IPAs, but I won't be back here again. read more

As a pretty local pub, I've often spent time at The Eagle. It's a moderately sized pub located just off City Road. Apparently, if wikipedia is to be believed, it's featured in the nursery rhyme Pop Goes The Weasel. You can actually see part of the rhyme written on a sign above the pub if you're really interested. Ok, down to the booze. Good selection. Lots of wines and different beers. The crowd? Depends really when you go. After work, it's that sort of post-work, before we catch the tube at Old Street, bunch. At the weekends, more likely to be locals. It can get really busy on a Friday night but the pub isn't located on a very busy road so it's easy enough for the crowd to spill out. Mind you, it's right next door to a police station, so I am sure everyone's on their best behaviour! The interior? Old pub style. Sofas mixed with wooden benches and bar stools. There's even a beer garden with some pretty lighting and music pumped out. The toilets have seen better days though. So generally speaking it's a nice pub. Their menu isn't too bad but, if I were you, avoid their Sunday Roasts. Distinctly average and flavourless. read more

Great pub. Last time I was in here was an early Saturday evening, it was pretty quiet except for our group of 5 lads and about 40 girls. Not a bad ratio.
