The Druid's Keep is a little neighborhood gem with a pool table, ample enclosed outdoor area with corn hole, and a wide variety of drinks to choose from. Finding this place has definitely been a high point for us as we had been missing the vibe of a "neighborhood bar" - this place definitely seems to fit the bill. Somehow, despite living in the NoLibs area for 2.5 years, we were unaware of it for a while only learning about it when a friend was meeting us at a local restaurant and her Lyft or Uber driver mentioned a dog friendly bar (referring to their large enclosed outdoor area). So glad that they mentioned it or it may have taken us longer to venture here. read more

A short list of what that means to me: - No lines, and always a place to perch or sit. - You won't order anything fancy because you won't need it when you're drowning in oversized whiskey Cokes. - It's not a restaurant/bar. It's a bar that happens to have food. Namely, $2 hot dogs, which are $1 when any Philly team is playing. Oh, and Pringle short cans. - There's paintings of Druid's, both inside and outside. - Back room has darts, billiards, and probably fight club when posers like me aren't there. - Rambunctious, friendly service that is totally welcoming unless you're wearing another team's swag in which case they're polite enough not to punch you in the face and that's more than you deserve. - Pretty great beer selection, which I'll take advantage of once my accursed "no beer no bread no sugar" January/mid February is over. - A magical portrait of our beloved #9, Saint Nick, Big Pole Foles himself, holding the Lombardi trophy and with his and his team's monumental achievement, making my hometown just a little nicer and more polished around the edges for at least a whole year. Lemme flow from the g-damn survival scrolls real quick. The Druid's Keep is an interesting beast. The bartenders pour heavy, yet they're filled with a diverse crowd in a chill, inviting environment. In all of my years of drinking excessively while discussing how Kanye West is the greatest artist of all time to anyone who would listen, I've never found this environmental balance before. It's bloody marvelous -- a place like this should never get too popular, but in inevitably will. When I go out, either the bar I go in is completely full of stuffed shirts, proper enunciation and watered down cocktails or it's around dilapidated and demoralizing environments where you can order homicide enabling 18 potent cocktails for $32.50. This is a bar I would go to if I were single and wanted to chop it up with the boys as the scent of drunken fckery lingers in the air for anything else. I made the mistake of bringing four women here at once like an OG triple OG triple triple OG playa and the hot breath from the sex and attention deprived was on ya boys neck and it gnawed on my soul. Don't you hate when you're choppin up game with a distinguished breezy about your fantastic experiences in the cyclades group by the Aegean Sea and some FUBU wearin breh straight out of "I got the hook up" hops in the conversation about their Wildwood excursions? The Druid's Keep at first appears to be a little hole-in-the-wall, but it has more depth than you might expect. The Druid's Keep is a good, comfortable, somewhat dirty Philly neighborhood bar, where Our Friends may hang out. Normally I do not get excited about a dive with only five taps, but when the five are Hopdevil, Yards IPA, Kenzinger, Magic Hat Spring Vinyl Lager, and Anchor Steam, it might get my respect. When I entered, the entire bar (five guys, actually - tough, Philly guys) was enrapt with the History Channel - Human Weapon - and really getting into the martial arts display. (This place definitely channeled the warrior characteristics of the druids more than the bardic ones, although they do have Trivial Pursuit cards on the bar for a wee bit of balance.) The back features a 4x8 pool table, but the dart board got far more action. A door opens onto a relatively private (albeit a touch post-apocalyptic) backyard patio. I entered intending to just check the place out, but ended up buying a couple of guys some drinks, getting bought a few more by them and others, and staying the entire evening. Fun stuff! Five stars for the cornhole in the back (get your mind out of the gutter - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornhole), it being a solid place to play darts, and the selection of video games that you'd expect from a bar to deliver entertainment. But I do have to take a star off for Druid's Keep not living up to the immediate expectation that you think of when picturing its name. When you think of a name like Druid's Keep you INSTANTLY picture the Belgian influence and envision a beer paradise the caliber of Monk's, Eulogy, The Abbey, and other such bars that go with that theme in their name. While the Keep does provide a slightly better beer selection than most others, it is a solid neighborhood bar that does come up just a tad short for failing to meet the immediate expectation that you think of when seeing the name and sign. Its the equivalent of coming across a bar with "Mc" or "Irish" in the name that doesn't serve Guinness or Jameson. But name issue aside, the Keep is the perfect NoLibs neighborhood bar for drinks and a good time. and you do have to give bonus points for the fact that it being off on of the more many traveled NoLibs streets makes it the perfect spot to get out of dodge for awhile. The drink selection is well rounded and reasonably priced, and the service is reasonable. And all of the above make it a worthy spot to add to any NoLibs bar crawl list, especially if you accept my challenge to a game of Cornhole! read more

I can't explain why I love this place so much, but I do! It's a quintessential neighborhood dive bar, that has remained that way even with the increasing trendiness of the neighborhood. We've been going here for years, since my bf used to live nearby. We recently went here for the first time in a while, and it's still great! The backyard is spacious and nicer than I remember it, with several cornhole games, an ample seating area with a bunch of tables, and baseball & basketball games still being projected on the wall. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced as ever (cocktails in a pint glass!), and the golden tee and mega-touch /photohunt games plus (grimy)Trivial Pursuit cards are still there for your amusement. Very solid bar in the NL area. There's a back bar area with a small pool table and a Golden Tee machine. Perfect for your anti-social beer snobs like myself and my crew! Not overly fun, but certainly more than dependable. More than anything, they have a very good packaged goods menu. Ok, so they've got a pretty decent beer selection and a nice back yard. I came here one night after slamming down a pint of Oak Aged Arrogant Bastard at The Standard Tap. It was pretty dead but we lingered for a beer anyway. Out in the backyard, people were playing a game called CornHole. I've seen this game before but I've never heard it called that. Anyway, it seemed like a good time. I attempted to shoot a game of pool but as soon as I put my dollar down on the table, someone tried to steal it. Upon confronting the person he apologized and then proceeded to loaf around until it was last call time. I unfortunately did not get to shoot a game of pool. At least I got my dollar back. Druid's keep is the most unassuming bar in Northern Liberties. I don't come here too often, but it's a nice place with decent beers on tap. You can bring your dog and hang out in the backyard, or play a game of corn-hole if you want. Or grab some of the trivial pursuit cards sitting around the bar. It's never too crowded. Simply, Druid's Keep is chill, and while amazing, a breath of fresh air for Northern Liberties. Best of all, the Phillies are projected on a huge wall outside. Druid's Keep wins over the piazza in several respects for watching Phillies games, mainly in the respect that there less of a crowd, and the people who are there actually watch baseball. Dropped in over the weekend to have a few beers with some friends. The draw for The Druid's Keep has always been the atmosphere and service, and I was once again impressed by both. Our beer was served fast and properly and the bartender was personable, funny and never condescending. Although this joint resides in Northern Liberties, it wasn't packed to the gills and everyone inside seemed to be having a pretty good time. It was even easy to get a few songs spun on the jukebox. As for selection, it may not be the best in the city, but it does the trick. I had a Stegmaier Porter, Troegs Mad Elf (which was only $5 a goblet) and O'Hara's Celebration Stout. The local brews (Victory, Troegs, Stoudts, Sly Fox) are always well stocked here and some foreign faces (Unibroue, Youngs) can be expected as well. They even have a billiards room, which is pretty spacious and inobtrusive. The outdoor area is also pretty sweet in the summer months. The only real downside to this spot is the absolute lack of food. It's hard not to get hungry after a few hours of drinking and sometimes a can of Pringles isn't gonna cut it. All it would take is a fryer and some buffalo wings and this place would be top notch. read more

This is a dive bar. That means it's generally not a good spot for dates. Some good things: Games. They have a couple of games (golden tee, internet jukebox, pool table, dodge city video poker - for amusement only, and megatouch) so that your already awkward date (cause you brought her here) can do something to keep her mind off of the less than acceptable atmosphere. Miller Lite was $3 and a credit card minimum of $10 kept me here longer than I wanted. The worst part of the place was NO MUSIC unless you used the internet jukebox. I mean it was dead silence which really brought the energy down. Not recommended for any girl except maybe if you are about to break up with her. read more

This place is a gem! I love the atmosphere, it just feels like I'm back in high school playing cornhole in a friends backyard. This place is cheap, quiet, and very laid back. Comfy lawn chairs everywhere and darts, and pool tables, and cornhole! Did i mention cornhole? Beer prices are pretty reasonable and the location is great. It's a perfect night cap bar after going to the hustle and bustle of the piazza and you just wanna chill and goof off and be silly. It's got the same atmosphere as Frankford Hall but less well known, and overall, way more fun I will definitely come back here for more summer late nights. I love Druids Keep. It is my favorite place away from the rat race that is 2nd street in NoLibs. Low key, friendly and they always have the Phillies or Eagles game on. In the summer, its great to go outside and watch the Phillies game projected on the building next door. Bartenders always remember your name and what you drink, which is refreshing and makes this place feel welcoming. Entertainment wise- A pool table, darts and baggo outside in the summer. Pretty sweet local bar from my perspective. Alright beer choices ($3-5). Dollar dogs during phillies games. Darts, pool in the back room. The kicker here is the huge projection of Philadelphia sporting events out back in there yard. First off, not many bars have an outdoor space that is like this. Really comfortable and really home-like. Then you can lean back and watch the 25 foot projection of the Phillies game in the side of the neighboring building. Nice. Wonderful neighborhood bar. Drinks are affordable and the people are very friendly. They make you feel as if you grew up in the neighborhood with them. Old movies are played throughout the day. A great little neighborhood bar. I find myself here to either play darts, or sit in the backyard to take in the game, or sometimes a movie which they project on the side wall of the adjacent building. Due to the fact that it is slightly off the main drag in Northern Liberties it tends to be more of a neighborhood crowd, which is a great change for a Friday or Saturday night when you don't want to deal with drunken dubochery that can be 2nd street at times, especially in the summer. read more

Most nights it is a quiet friendly place with a great beer garden to sit and watch the game, which is projected on the to adjacent building (25 ft wide). Love that this place is out of the way and not totally hipsterfied in soon-to-be-overpopulated Northern Liberties. It's slightly divey but not, sorta puby but not. On a recent Friday night there was a good mix of people, a good selection of beers on tap (Sly Fox is my go-to brew these days and they had it) and best of all...ice dancing on television! Also noteworthy: clean bathrooms. Other bars in the area, please take note. You can serve alcohol to the masses and still keep the loo tidy. Bravo to Druids Keep, even though the name sounds like I should be playing Dungeons and Dragons or wearing head to toe leather and beating people with a whip. read more

I lived in Northern Liberties almost five years ago... pre-Piazza.. so bars were somewhat limited as far as being close to my place. In comes Druid's Keep. I went to Druid's a couple times when I lived in NL, and enjoyed it every time. The people in the bar seemed down to Earth, the bartenders were happy and attentive, and it was a good place to go to just hang out and avoid the crowds Northern Libs had even then. Soooo... I found myself in NL a couple weeks ago with a friend. After hitting 700 for a couple, we decided to hit up the Keep. Upon entry, everything seemed fine. The bartender seemed friendly enough, and there were about 5 patrons inside. Both my friend and I ordered mixed drinks and shots of Powers, and played some Trivial Pursuit to pass the time. In the time from that point until we left.. the bartender was nowhere to be found. If she was behind the bar she was pacing back and forth like a caged animal, or she was outside, or playing pool...... and nowhere near as attentive as when we had first arrived. Please note that the patron count was probably up to 8 at this time. At this point, I decided I was done with the mixed drinks at this bar, and asked for a cup of ice. When I got the ice, I realized that it was peppered with either dirt.. or mold from the ice machine. I picked one dirty piece out, only to realize that there were a dozen more. I was sitting at the bar when she scooped the ice into the plastic cup.. so it was the ice. Yuck. All this after I drank my entire mixed drink. Bye, Druid's. This bar is one of those that seems more like your crashing a local's party upon entry... and one that might have a little bit more going on behind the scenes than I'd like to know about. read more

I wasn't that impressed with the bar. I went on a Friday. The locals were mainly there and I was a little bored. Also, I didn't really like the straight laced crowd that much. I was hoping on more of a medieval artistic theme but it is more like a typical sports bar. There are better bars in the area. read more
