Beautiful rooftop bar with eclectic seating options. We came here right when they opened at 2pm and it was immediately packed, so I'd suggest doing the same. The view is gorgeous and it's a great place to hang out and enjoy the weather when it's nice. The seating area primarily converted classroom tables and chairs, which is adorable (though not the most comfortable or accessible). They have a decent drink selection and small food menu of tacos, burritos, nachos, etc. The food and drinks are a little pricey for what you get, but not terribly unreasonable. You're mostly paying for the ambiance anyways. I'll definitely be back while the weather stays warm! read more

Bok Bar is a cool and relaxed rooftop terrace with the most gorgeous panoramic skyline view of Philadelphia. Upon entering, you get your ID checked and walk down the hallways of what was once a school. It's so fun how they have a chalkboard with a word of the day with such fun school vibes. Once you take the elevator up to the rooftop, you are welcomed to the view right away. There is a bar on each side with pop-up food vendors too. My friends and I got a cocktail and then enjoyed the view while sipping on our drinks. I had the Summer Girl ($13), which was decent. The drinks are served in plastic cups and weren't too special. I'd probably stick to beer or wine as the cocktails weren't anything special. While the drinks were ok, the view and vibes are absolutely worth coming for! Even the restrooms are from the school, where the dividers are so low that you can see your head popping out when you're standing. Set atop an old vocational high school, this hella cool rooftop terrace offers a full bar, tasty snacks, great views and very cool vibes! The expansive space, atop the Bok Building in South Philly, is the perfect place to spend a relaxing Saturday afternoon taking in the Philly skyline while enjoying yummy (and pricey!) libations with friends. I especially loved the decor, replete with vintage classroom furniture and beautiful flowers. From what I saw on their calendar, there's lots going on at Bok Bar in the evenings. such as drag shows, salsa dancing, yoga classes, and more, They open at 2 pm on Saturdays for a more relaxed vibe, and now I've got a new gem to bring my guests to when they come to Philly. Mesmerizing views overlooking Center City and South Jersey! Bok Roof Bar is located on top of an old Vocational School. Best Sunset view you just want to stand there and absorb the moment. Pleasantly surprised how an old school building from the 1930's was converted into a Roof Top Bar. Drinks are served in plastic cups most likely to avoid glasses falling off the Roof Top. For food I only tried sweet potato fries and chocolate cake for dessert. Food is ordered at the bar area. It took about 20 minutes to get the fries and cake. Basic cocktails are served in plasticware and there's a rotating food partner in the small kitchen behind the bar. No table service, and there's a fairly clear process to getting on up to the roof. I cannot wait to check out Irwin's at some point in the near future as well. My cocktail was good but a little steep for what it was. I would go with wine or beer on my next visit! I went to Bok Bar for a packed Making Time event on 4 July, and even at full capacity, it was 100% worth it. The rooftop views are iconic, the energy was high, and the space somehow never felt overwhelming. A big highlight was the food partner during our visit -- Gabriella's Vietnam (July 2-27). Chef Thanh Nguyen, recently named a "Rising Star Chef" by Craig Laban, brought seriously authentic Vietnamese street food vibes to the rooftop. Located in a former school from the 1930's, it is interesting to see an old building transformed into a community space featuring Bok Bar! Located on the 8th floor, the outdoor bar has cocktails, beer, wine, and zero proof options. They also have food partners that vary throughout the year, so check their website to plan your visit. This place is popular and it gets crowded so make sure your dog can handle a party-like environment. You have to take an elevator (stairs are also an option) to get up to the 8th floor, so your dog will be in a tight space with other people. There is seating, but be prepared to stand as it fills up quickly. This place is fantastic to see the sun set over the city and just have a unique experience with your pup. Bok Bar is a seasonal space that opens from April and closes in November. The last day for 2024 is November 3rd. Admission is free! read more

Super chill & cool place to hang out for evening with some friends & catch a view of the Philly skyline in the background. We went there w/ a big group after a storm came thru & it was super windy but there was still a bit of a sunset to be seen. I just got a pineapple cider which didnt have much pineapple flavor to it & ate a corn & cheese empanada (currently Venezualean food being offered).The empanada wasn't bad but not enuff flavor for me to go rushing back to. The view is nice. If you look directly out around the bar (former school), all you see are lights & the tops of residential buildings in South Philly. NOthing really great but in the far distance, you can see Center City & University City & all of the skyscrapers downtown & it is a sight to see. Other than that, Bok doens't really stand out much from anything else. The music isn't loud so you cant hear it all over. Decent amount of chairs & tables but I can only imagine when it's fully packed @ the peak of the summer. We drove out there & luckily we found a spot right out front by the door but the only other sensible way would be to get a ride there b/c you are taking your chances trying to find street parking. I will say that it is nice venue for having private events. Personally, the place w/ the best view of the city is Cira Green. I wont go rushing out here b/c of the parking sitch & it doens't have anything else additional other than the venue to offer. Always great to check out @ least 1x! read more

Phenomenal views but uninteresting drinks. We visited Bok Bar on a Friday night, and it was packed when we got there at 8:30 but had greatly thinned out by the time we left at 11. Bok Bar is situated on top of a vocational school in the Passyunk Square area. The view of the Philly skyline is gorgeous. The seating is an eclectic mix of cheap chairs and tables, and there is plenty of standing room. When we visited, they only had four cocktails available to try, and none of them struck my fancy so I stuck to cans. They do have a large selection of canned beer, canned cider, and a few canned cocktails. The can-less cocktails are served in plastic cups (don't want people dropping glass off the roof). Overall, I recommend Bok Bar for the view but the drinks are not a highlight. read more

Their food options have also improved with a roughly monthly rotation of pop-up vendors supporting. To take in the views, you won't be charged a cover nor will you need a reservation. You may have to make your way through crowds depending on the day, however, snapping a quick picture should not be impossible. Keep in mind, there is little cover from the sun or other elements, so plan accordingly. The beer selection is decent and they have a handful of simple cocktails to enjoy. If you aren't quite sure what you'll want, scan the QR code for the full menu and take a look or ask for some advice. The lines move fairly quickly. Finally, the food changes often but has always been solid in my opinion. Prices are reasonable for the location as well. Overall, worth the occasional special trip if you're not in the area often. I'm a fan! Came here on a week night after work with my partner and friend. The place was PACKED. The weather was beautiful so I'm not surprised. We did have wait in a little controller line in order to get into an elevator to get to the top. I didn't realize this place is kind of a free-for-all upstairs. For the amount of people that were up there, definitely not enough places to sit or set down your drink. We got kind of lucky and snagged a standing spot once a couple left which overlooked the Philly skyline. The reason why this place doesn't get full 5 stars for me is because the cocktails here are premade in jars. We ordered 3 drinks and for the price point I was disappointed when he pulled out jars and poured it over ice. They don't have draft beer here either. I cannot stress how much I loved this place. I heard good things about Bok Bar, but I didn't realize what an amazing spot this place is. Never mind the view of Philly it has (which is amazing), let's talk about the vibes and set up of this bar. Especially as the weather was getting warm in that last week of October, it was the perfect time to enjoy the weather and the view of Philly. I enjoyed it so much that I came 2 days in a row! In terms of food and drink, I got the Golden Hour and the Lo-Fi Spritz. Both these drinks were good, but nothing to write home about. We got the clam chowder fries too, which I liked. The Panna Cotta was also very delicious. While Bok Bar is now closed for the season, I highly recommend you check it out once it reopens. read more

Staff was fast and friendly. Outdoor setting was beautiful. Guacomole and nachos for $10 Or 11 was expensive and this place is pricy in general but a nice hang otherwise. They are closed during winter months- Nov - Mar I believe . So make sure you check for that beforehand. Also, if you're driving to Bok, do NOT park in any parking lot. There is a private lot nearby and you could be locked in overnight having to pick your car up the following morning, and you don't want to have to do that. Some older people seem to rave a bit about Bok being an esteemed magnet, but I had a firsthand account of a former student who said that scores stayed low and the teachers and admin never did extra curriculars. Sports were done off site and this affected the nature of the school. Also elementary kids came in to Bok for aftercare at that time- the HS students didn't have to run into the Elementary students, but a weird setup. Probably a good thing in hindsight if you know all sides. Just try to enjoy the Bok building for what it is now and not what it was. read more

Bok was awesome!! On the rooftop of an old schoolhouse, you have a panoramic view of the Philly skyline. When you enter, you walk down a school hallway space where staff will check your ID/bags & send you up in an elevator to the rooftop. From there, you can grab a seat at one of the many tables (shaded & unshaded available) or head to the bar. The staff was bubbly & friendly! I ordered a 'Golden Hour' cocktail (Bluecoat Gin, watermelon, lemon, mint, club soda) which was pricey for the size. It was $11 for about an 8 oz drink. We also ordered food from their current food partner Puyero Venezuelan Flavor. We ordered chicken empanadas & taqueños to share. The food was excellent but also a little pricey at $10 for the small plates. After our drinks, we headed down to the first floor where we shopped around local vendors in old classroom spaces. There was a plant shop, a vintage shop, and some other artsy vendors to check out! Bok Bar is such a cool spot to visit to see the city from above, enjoy a nice golden hour sunset, & shop local. Sky high vibes with good food and drinks to match! I visited Bok Bar during the Kalaya Philly pop up and I'm so glad I did. The building itself is eclectic. I believe it's an old vocational school, that may still host some creative workshops here are there. When you enter the building you're led up an industrial elevator and after a few seconds you arrive at the roof. To the right, there is another bar named Irwin's and to the left is Bok Bar. The drink selection is sort of limited as all the cocktails are pre-batched. They also sprinkle in some beer and wine options as well. Although pre batched, the cocktails packed a punch. I could taste the individual ingredients, which is always a good thing. Kalaya's pop up - 8/10! I didn't love the Crab Rangoon. I appreciated the creative take of utilizing a cannoli vs the usual wonton wrap, but it was just too sweet. The cream cheese was overwhelming and it desperately needed salt. Cocktails are meh, so you're better off getting something in a can where the outcome is as-expected. The views and drink selection are good. We had a reservation for a big group on a Thursday night but if we weren't eating food we could have easily been fine walking in without one. I had been excited for the current chef residency (Kalaya) but the food was somewhat disappointing. I got papaya salad (Som Tum) and the cucumber came either mangled or someone in the back had a snack of it (hadn't noticed until I ate most of my dish but you can see in the photo I've posted, spent the rest of the meal hoping it wasn't a bite mark...) and the "sticky rice" was rock hard and dried out and just overall inedible (and i've had it before so this isn't a situation where I don't know what it should taste like). The papaya salad was good and had a good balance of flavor though. I wouldn't get it again though. My friends felt like the food was a mixed bag overall with the fried tofu being the favorite of one of them. Our server was Janine (sp?) and she was a mixture of nice and annoyed with us most of the time we were there. I get people can be a pain but it really did affect my experience. Overall my recommendation is to come here to the bar to drink and enjoy the view but I wouldn't recommend the food or dining situation at Bok Bar at least with the current residency (Kalaya). read more

This proved to be a great time to visit as it quickly got crowded and the best tables on the edge of the roof fill particularly fast. The 8th-floor rooftop city-wide view makes this location an easy 5/5 on any fair-weather day - come here the next time you are looking for outdoor seating at a bar! We selected a variety of cocktails and light beers. I liked the Tea-quila best. The real highlight in the food was the **Pha Lau** - the Vietnamese chef's specialty, which is a flavorful stew of beef and offal (don't be put off by the intestine - it is very meaty). Yum! Super hip place for a bar and restaurant. They transformed a mid-century urban vocational school into a very cool rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking the entire city of Philadelphia. Pros: absolutely stunning views of the city both in daylight and nighttime. The roof area is very spacious and filled with ample seating. There are two bar areas to order food and drinks so lines go quickly. Their cocktail specials were great and they have a good selection of wine and craft beers. My favorite was the Bizarra Blood Orange. Cons: the wait to take the elevators upstairs to the roof can get quite long, so be patient. Overall, Amazing place to hang out with friends.
