You're a little intimidated maybe when you notice the bartender isn't really smiling, but you also realize there's a cigarette vending machine & you smoked your entire pack the night before. The bartenders are friendly and kind - the beer is cheap - and nobody judge what you're wearing, who you are, if you're reading a book or the newspaper. Just show up as YOU. You're just there to grab a pint, after all. No need to impress. Enjoy!

Leashed and friendly dogs are welcome on all three floors with the bar being on the 1st level, a smoking area on the 2nd, and a pool table and games on the 3rd. Dive is the right name for this bar (and we love it) having been around for a while, dark lighting, wood paneling, and walls that have probably seen thousands of patrons walk through the doors and up the stairs. The bartenders are great, prices are good, and Happy Hour is Monday-Sunday from 5-7pm with $3 draughts. There are also a couple of TVs to watch the game in this sports city!

You can feel the Philly pride in here - the walls are full of Philadelphia sports memorabilia, band posters, beer signs, and has the feel of a hometown bar. Jessie, the bartender, let us know that leashed and friendly dogs are allowed inside and that you can bring your own food (they formerly served food, but have since stopped). We had a great time watching college basketball on their big screen TV, checking out original game-used stadium seating from the now demolished Veterans Stadium, and played some old-school games in the back. They will have game nights weekly.

It was more of a playful nostalgic environment rather than a place where I would eat, but for a quick strong cocktail or beer it was a fantastic hang out. There were several of us and the bar was slammed. Loved the Ms Pac-Man arcade game and the Godzilla pinball machine next to the dart board. The gender neutral bathroom was a disaster and loved it. The door had a posted sign as a warning, "One Urinal, One Toilet, One Lock". The walls and ceiling (yes ceiling) was plagued with colorful marker ink and stickers, basically graffiti. Was not sure if I was permitted to add to the decor, but I wanted too so badly. Surprisingly, the sink, urinal, and toilet was so clean that the white porcelain shined against the graffiti. The retro-inspired geometric pattern of white and black hexagons created an inviting tile floor. If you are visiting Philly, you gotta take a peek. Guaranteed this is a stop you wont soon forget.

My new favorite bar!…read more Many regard Ray's as the best dive bar in the city. My first time here occurred last Sunday at around 11am and the main bar was fairly packed. My buddy and I grabbed some Kenzingers' and a shot of Jamison to start the day and sat at the closet table to the door. They had the door open to let some light in as it was early and nice out, which was nice and the crowd was very friendly. I had on my Philadelphia Live jacket and one of patrons at the bar came over to me and asked how I got the jacket as he worked there. The bar opens at 7am most days and from what I gather it is to accommodate the graveyard shift that gets out at the casino and for the nearby hospital workers. They also have Karaoke nights, open Mic nights, and a band playing it looks like once a week. I definitely plan on coming back here next time I am around South Philadelphia and if my birthday falls out on a weekend day obviously, as you get a free shot on your special day! As always people SYOY!!!
