I went dress shopping last year with my mom and friend. We really did have a lovely time. I got to try on dresses I had been excited for and our stylist was so helpful. The price was expected and roughly within my budget and the order/pickup process was very smooth. Now, I was told when I purchased the dress I'd be able to add a slit up the front during alterations. I was assured this by our stylist before I placed my order. When I picked up my dress I was given alteration options and chose someone from Dress Theory's recommendation list. Unfortunately, at alterations I was informed that I could not add a slit. The fabric is too delicate/the dress has three layers/there is no front seam. She said it was best to leave it as is. With my wedding fast approaching there's no time or money to find another dress and I've had to just resign to the fact that it won't look exactly how I wanted. I wish I had been told this while wedding dress shopping so that I could have made a different choice. I hope that in the future Dress Theory's stylists can be a bit more educated on the specifics of their dresses so that no other bride has to go through this. read more

The actual dress selection, dress selecting experience, and care of the stylists while you are selecting your dress, I would rate 4.5/5 stars (not 5 because I am a street size 8 and the sample sizes are definitely geared towards the less curvy). EVERYTHING else involved with this dress experience outside of the selection appointment and purchase of the dress: 1/5 stars - with the 1 only being for ease of pickup. Let me start with the good: I went in thinking there was a 99% chance I bought a Galia Lahav dress. I thought this so much, that I booked my appointment during the Galia Lahav trunk show, with the 10% discount in mind. The actual appointment process was easy, I got to bring my mother, maid of honor (sister), and one of my bridesmaids. My stylist was absolutely wonderful and listened to everything I mentioned. We pulled a variety of GL dresses, as well as some Sarah Seven dresses I had kept my eye on previously. During the process, I fell in love with the Sarah Seven dress, and even though it was half the price, the stylist agreed that the dress was perfect for me. I looked BANGING, hourglass-y and overall it looked like the dress was made for me. The stylist agreed and she never tried to upsell me whatsoever. She even helped me pick out the perfect veil. This is where the positives pretty much end. The sample dress I tried on was a size 8. It was a bit snug. But zipped up with ease. The stylist calculated my measurements and said I should order a size 14, however, since it was mainly my thighs bringing up the size, she recommended I order a 12. This still sounded so huge considering I fit in the 8, but she convinced me a 12 was best. When I finally got to pick the dress up, I tried it on in studio before I left and it was ENORMOUS on me. I was SWIMMING. I am a 36 D and you could barely tell I had boobs at all. In fact, I looked like a square. The stylists who were there at the moment assured me that the alterations specialist would tailor the dress. When I tried to make an appointment, they told me they were too booked and that I needed to have made an alterations appointment earlier - which I had never been told although I ordered the dress 11 months before my wedding date. Alright, so they gave me a list of 4 recommended alterations specialists, one of which I selected - Fragile Fit. Let me tell you, it only went down from here - you can read my review on the business page if you like. Long story short - The sample size that had me looking like an hourglass goddess was NOT AT ALL the dress I ended up with. While I realize some of this may have been in my control, you would think that after dropping thousands of dollars on a custom ordered wedding dress, and deferring to their expertise, I wouldn't have spent numerous days and hours crying about how much I hated my dress and how terrible it made me feel every time I wear it. After spending thousands on the dress, thousands on picture and video, I am going to throw this dress and it's bad juju away. Now - I AM one of the brides affected by Covid, so this dress was worn to my elopement, and silver lining - I can afford a new dress for my actual large wedding. Will I return to The Dress Theory? Honestly, they are one of the ONLY retailers that carry the brands I am looking for in the Seattle area, so probably yes. However, I will not defer to their expertise since it only led me to disappointment, frustration and tears at every point. I just wanted to write an update that my custom Sarah Seven dress was absolute perfection. They got the size correct (I read some reviews complained of getting a 12 instead of a 2) and the appointment was smooth sailing. I've actually gone in several times prior to my fitting to compare different bridesmaid dresses with my dress (in terms of color, style, etc). The girls here are so friendly and thoughtful. The Dress Theory seriously has the best designers. I follow them on Instagram, which is a huge mistake because now I am just fomo-ing hard. So amazing! Such a quaint little wedding dress shop in north Seattle. I specifically went for a trunk show for the Rue De Seine bridal line. It was amazing! It's open by appointment only. You can call or email. Lots of parking nearby. Since it's by appointment only, I'm assuming you're the only one there, at least that was my experience. The gals are so lovely and helpful. I actually got to meet the designer of Rue De Seine, who helped me at my fitting as well. You can bring your champs, they have little plastic flutes for you. I was referred from my sister in-law that bought her beautiful dress here. Valeria treated me to champagne and a fabulous dress session. She brought out the dress that I would wear on my wedding day. It was more than perfect. Unfortunately I had some issues with the dress just weeks before my big day and what could've turned my wedding upside down Rileigh (after hours) answered my call. This boutique is so pretty inside! They have very unique beautiful dresses but you can also find the typical ballgown dress there as well if that's what you're looking for. I heard about The Dress Theory through a designer. I really wanted to try on Anna Campbell dresses so I looked on her website who the stockists were. Unfortunately, I didn't know that they didn't always carry Anna Campbell so when I went to my appointment, I was a little disappointed that they only did trunk shows for her. However, there were other designers I wanted to try as well which they did have! I had a picture of a Gala dress on my phone and they had that exact one which ended up being the dress I chose. I worked with Val throughout the whole dress process. She was so sweet! I really enjoyed working with her. I can't stay enough about The Dress Theory. The Dress Theory was my third dress shop after a whirlwind day of shopping with my mom and sister who were in from out of town. I had my eye on their Jenny Packham and Anna Campbell gowns before I booked my appointment and knew they were the only retailer in Seattle to carry them. When we got to the appointment I was blown away by their unique selection of dresses. They were very unlike the other stores I had been to. Ang, my consultant, was so kind and gave my family and I as much time as we needed. I knew as soon as I put on my Jenny Packham gown that it was the one for me. I went back for a second appointment in August to pick my veil; the owner, Camille, helped me find the most perfect veil to complement my gown. My dress came in ahead of schedule in December before my May wedding! I decided to do in house alterations as my dress had extensive beading. The price was reasonable for the amount of work that needed to be done (I am very short) and the service was great. I was able to have only one appointment and my dress was done. I'm from San Francisco but was in Seattle for a work conference so figured I would make an appointment at The Dress Theory while I was there. It's a super cute little shop with a small, curated selection of dresses. If you're hoping to find a huge store full of options, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a unique selection of modern dress or a bohemian look, you'll find some really great options here. There were some mentions of consultants putting brides in dresses above their budget, but when I went all of the dresses were clearly marked with price tags, so I didn't have any surprises. When I picked my dress, they also graciously waived the shipping fee so I could get it delivered to me in SF! read more

Came here super pumped to try on dresses because they had some designers who I liked, but ended up being kind of disappointed with the experience. It has the ambiance of a high end boutique, without the kind of service I would expect. First off, their website says their dresses range $2100 to $8000, but in many of their dresses are in the higher end, so if you're thinking of trying to stay in the less than $2500 range, you'll be hard pressed. Their selection is also VERY limited. It's a small room with about four coat racks of dresses. For me, I felt like the styles were either super simple (and as such overpriced) or a little too overdone / embellished. The person who "helped" us didn't actually help at all. She sort of asked me about dresses, but then basically carried them into the dressing around and left me alone. She told me she could help with zipping / pinning if needed, but she seemed so hands off that I felt awkward about calling her in. For one of the dresses that was very baggy and loose on me, she did do some clipping, but compared to other places where I've been helped, she really didn't have a good vision of clipping the dress to allow me to see the shape of the neckline. The mirrors in the space are also not ideally lined up for you to see all angles, and there is no little step up thingy for shorter ladies to stand on in order to see a lot of the beautiful bottom detailing that many dresses have. The space is very lovely though, and they only have two brides maximum at a time, so you could take some lovely photos inside. They also offered us complimentary champagne and water. But in the end, I think we were in there for a grand total of 10 minutes and I tried on 6 dresses. Not quite the experience I was looking for. read more

This is a lovely boutique in Wallingford with many beautiful gowns, which tend to be of a more modern and simple style, which I like. However, they committed the unpardonable sin of letting me try on a dress that was well over my budget without telling me so until AFTER I had fallen in love with it. I went to a total of 6 bridal boutiques including The Dress Theory, and The Dress Theory was the ONLY one where this happened. Here's what happened: I went in, chatted briefly with my consultant, and one of the last things she asked me for was my budget. It's a healthy budget, but it's in the middle of the range of prices The Dress Theory offers. But still--it's reasonable. She invited me and my friends to look through the racks at the front of the store, and pick out whatever caught our eye. Each time I found one that intrigued me, I would hold it up and ask her if I could try it on--and of course what I was really asking is, "Does this dress fit my requirements--is it in my budget?" but it's a bit gauche to phrase it that way, so I would just hold it up and wait for her approval. The dress I loved--a Sarah Seven dress, new for 2019--was one that I held up, but still, I asked, and she said yes, sure, you can try it on. I tried that dress on 3 times, comparing it to the other dresses I liked, before we had narrowed it down to just that one. And then I asked how much it cost, and she told me the price. Friends, it was a full 40% over my budget. I was crushed. I tried not to let it show. I NEVER would have tried this dress on if I had known the price beforehand. It's just WAY too expensive for me. But, I tried to act normal. She took my measurements, let me know that I could save 10% if I ordered it by the end of the day, and my friends and I left. I was a little heartbroken. Even at 10% off, it was still substantially over my budget. I ultimately found a dress within my budget at the Nordstrom Wedding Suite, and it's going to be lovely, but I'm still pretty mad at The Dress Theory, and thought you all should be warned about this. If you have a budget that is less than the upper range of their prices, don't worry about being gauche--just keep double-checking with your consultant before you try things on. read more

Not only is their selection uniquely modern and chic, but their employees are welcoming, helpful, and never pushy. I went to a different bridal salon first and had a terrible experience. I cannot say enough about this place. After 6 stores and a few dresses that felt like "Sure, I guess I could wear this" but none that were "that's it, that's my dress.", I was nearly close to just purchasing a dress that would do. The Dress Theory is small and has a curated collection of dresses rather than a ton of options that span all styles. I had been eyeing a particular designer (Sarah Seven) due to her amazing ability to highlight the female body and make it flattering, as well as add subtle hints of sultry in all the right places. A sheer panel here and a little glam there. Natural and boho but with a touch of sheen to catch some candle light. She is amazing and reason enough to visit this store. We walked in and saw an adorable craftsman style house, converted into a chic Seattle store with hardwoods, a fireplace, floral accent walls and boho chic rugs in each room. There was a candle lit, filling the air with an amazing aroma, adding to the feeling that you, are here to shop for YOUR dress. Camille greeted us with mimosas and let us start running around the store to pick out options to try on after asking a few, style, budget, venue questions. My mother flew into action, picking every dress I wasn't a fan of and Camille calmly reassured me that Val (my consultant) would be able to help reign my mom in just a bit and would be able to focus on me and my wants. After choosing what seemed like, 20 or more dresses, we got to work. Val was incredibly sweet and helped me into each dress carefully. I came out in dress after dress and was so impressed that each dress fit me without a ton of pulling or cinching. I wear a 10 in wedding dresses. Out of every dress there, I couldn't find a single dress I disliked. Even the ball gowns, which are not my style at all, were so elegant, tasteful and modern that even I - a ball gown protester - would consent to trying them on. When I first came into my appt, I was honest and told Camille and Val that I truly had no idea what I wanted. That I didn't like ball gowns but other than that, had no landed a particular style. Camille browsed my Pinterest board as well as dresses I had saved on Instagram. She noticed that I had pinned and saved the same Sarah Seven dress over 3 times. I had not noticed that it was the same dress. The lighting or model changed the way it looked in each picture. As it happens, it turned out to be MY dress. It was the first one I tried on and the last one as well. It hit me. I finally cried and could stand there, on the platform in the middle of this adorably cute craftsmen, with my family around me and have a true "bride moment". I saw myself. Which is hard to see sometimes when putting on dresses that you've only ever imagined actually purchasing. You see your face daily. You know yourself. A full ball gown with glitz and glam wasn't me. I had such a lovely time trying on dresses with Rileigh! I was the last appointment of the day, and had the shop all to myself. This was the first time I was trying on wedding dresses, and since my family is based in California, it was just me without any guests. Based on my Pinterest board, Rileigh picked out some dresses and also let me pick out some dresses that caught my eye. It was a really magical experience, being able to try on so many beautiful gowns. Over the course of my 90-minute appointment, I tried a variety: lace, no lace, crepe, silk, A-line, ballgown, form-fitting, etc. Rileigh was so sweet, kind, and made me feel so at ease as I felt insecure about various parts of my body and wanting to find a dress that wouldn't accentuate them. Since I had no guests to help me take pictures, Rileigh helped me take pictures of every dress I tried from various angles, which I was able to share with family and look at afterwards and ruminate on what I liked and what worked and what didn't. I came in with some ideas of what I didn't like and didn't want for myself (e.g. sweetheart neckline, form-fitting), but I was open to Rileigh changing my mind as I wasn't sure how the dresses would look on me, and funnily enough, I totally loved the form-fitting silhouette on myself, and I'm glad I trusted Rileigh's judgment and eye. Two things make this shop stand out- the unbelievable service and the amazingly curated selection of dresses. After buying my dress we decided to postpone our wedding to wait out a different venue. The owner worked with me to make sure I could have the right dress for my wedding, even if that meant it was a different dress than the one I had picked. This is pretty unheard of and I am so grateful for her willingness to go the extra mile. When I went back for round two to pick out a dress for the updated date and venue, the three girls working were SO fun and so sweet. They had great ideas and input and made the process easy, fun and memorable. The dresses were (again) all completely gorgeous. If I could, I would have bought several. I had a wonderful experience at The Dress Theory. They have a lovely boutique in Wallingford with many unique and beautiful dresses. What really makes The Dress Theory exceptional though is the service. From the moment I arrived with my mom, sister, and best friend, they made us feel comfortable. We were offered drinks and told we could check out the dresses until the salesperson had finished with another customer. What I appreciated most of all was that I felt heard.
