This is a very good restaurant in downtown Starke, a hidden gem, that if you have not been, you need to go. The sign outside is cheeky and fun if you're looking for sympathy towards the woke crybaby crowd... This is not your restaurant. And for the few reviewers, who made a big deal out of the sign... "Get a life". I mean, seriously that's all you have to worry about in today's world? If you want political correctness, go to San Francisco and deal with Governor Newsom... Enough said. Not bad, not great. I was turned off from the front door sign and it's not because I don't believe the same but it didn't sit right with me and made me very uncomfortable. Then there was a gentleman sitting down at a tall table with a shirt on that said, "Stomp on my flag and I'll stomp on your ass." I don't enjoy the political landscape now and I was frightened. I was thankful the election had just passed and Trump won because I would have been more frightened of the anger. Food wise, everything was reasonably priced. Very small drinks. My salad was a bit gritty with just a condiment amount of cheese. The fried chicken special was good but a little heavy. The restaurant was not very clean. I think it would be a great place for several beers and to watch a game. There were a few TV's and I saw the waitress change the channel for another couple. The two waitresses I had contact with were extremely congenial and very were very good waitresses. read more

Living in Starke for almost two years. First visit to The Downtown Grill. Lunch on a Saturday was an excellent French Dip, with some of the best onion rings I have had in a long time. Very nice service and very good food. I will be back. Looking at the reviews, it appears the low rating was from 4+ years ago, some going 10+ years back. Those need to be ignored or purged. The Downtown Grill in my opinion is the best kept secret in Starke. read more

SALISBURY STEAK: 4.5 STARS Old fussy really liked it. BUFF CHIK TENDERS: 5 STARS Fully cooked yet juicy, not Sysco, right on the money. VALUE: 5 STARS $15.95, a ton of chicken, big side salad no up charge. The locals are lucky to have this place. This is a solid place for lunch or dinner. We met our son and his wife here so that we could get our granddaughter for the weekend. The best thing about this place is the friendly servers. There were smiles everywhere. The things we ordered were the spicy shrimp ( think bang bang shrimp), fish, hamburger and sirloin tips. Everyone was happy with their food. This is a typical home town place to eat. We will probably return. read more

We found this place courtesy of Yelp and we're glad we did! The service was great! Our waitress was super sweet and very attentive, she was always around with refills ( that's always a plus for me)! I was fine with the burger, I'm not a big fan of a lot of seasonings and it was large with a lot of toppings! The onion rings are super good!! The shotgun shrimp had a good taste. Was in this town for the first time and just had dinner here tonight. Started off great before even entering after seeing the lovely patriotic signs they have at the door. We ordered several dishes: onion rings, Shotgun Shrimp, chicken tenders, chicken wings and a burger. The draft beer was great and they gave my husband a free one as he is a retired military veteran. Allison was our server and we couldn't have asked for a nicer waitress. Every item of food was delicious. The chicken tenders were large pieces of tender and juicy marinated chicken breast. My husband and son said the Shotgun Shrimp was absolutely delicious. My son's burger was delicious but was so big he couldn't finish it. They had a wonderful guitarist/singer who played lots of nostalgic tunes and had a wonderful voice. Would happily eat here again. read more

My husband and I have been here several times, especially when a band plays. I have found the waitresses always friendly and helpful. We usually order the chicken tenders with two sides. There is absolutely no way I will ever eat here again. The service was abysmal and the blackened chicken was terribly seasoned. My guest ordered the hamburger steak med well. It was served way overcooked and was dry dry dry. Garlic potatoes? Boiled potato cubes with some minced garlic dumped in and parsley added. The servers were very friendly and were trying really hard to please everyone. That's the only good thing about this place. The food was mediocre. The servers have some very unsanitary habits. I watched my server pick up several limes with her ungloved hand and place them directly on the rim of the glasses after handling food, money and other things. She also reused beer glasses, which would be fine if she didn't directly touch the spigot to the rim of those glasses. Also, they have one price online, a higher price on the menus in the restaurant, and you end up paying an even higher price when you get the bill. When I asked the server about the price difference, she stated "the manager just changed the prices but didn't want to redo the menus". The food was definitely not worth the price. Very small town so maybe this is the best of the worst, but I won't be returning. read more

Best burger I've had in a while. I went here with some friends after a weekend of work and it was delicious. The classic burger is all you need. The big knock is that this restaurant doesn't deal well with crowds. If the restaurant is crowded the parking situation isn't great. Crowds also bogged service down quite a bit. This is a hometown, small town joint, places I love to try. Sat for a while before getting service, but after initial contact the waitress was on it! We started with the shotgun shrimp and they were super good! We went for 6 wings the shotgun style as well not as good on the wings also asked for naked but got breaded. I had a smothered burger onions mushrooms and provolone cheese, would have been better with Swiss; however they only have American cheddar and provolone. Burger was huge, very good value the onion rings that came with the burger were fresh and delicious! Overall I would hang out at this place it is close and seems pretty good! read more

We found this cute little downtown restaurant on yelp; and since we love to try new places, we gave it a try. I ordered potato soup, which was canned potatoes and a canned taste broth...not good. I also ordered a salad, which was some lettuce, 2 cucumbers, a sauce container with cheese and a sauce container with croutons on a dessert plate (tiny). My husband ordered a hamburger and fries, which were okay. The staff worked very hard and were very friendly. It had a lot of people drinking so maybe that is their forte. read more

Knowledgeable and enthusiastic, we went with some of his choices and everything we ordered was exactly as described. He even got the kitchen to make us thinner onion rings vs their usual homemade, thicker rings. Pretty much the best onion rings we've ever had. Wow- what a disappointment! We were last in here about a year or so ago and remembered it as a very good restaurant. Not sure what has happened since then? Except for one cheerful server (which we did not have) all the servers seemed disinterested in serving their customers. The quality of the food was not good for any of the meals ordered at our table (except for the Shotgun Shrimp) - raw broccoli, sandwiches w little meat on them, potatoes that were under cooked, the 'an jus' bowl was straight soy sauce!! Not a good experience- and to top it off it took over 2 hours to eat and get out of there- and they were not even busy. So sorry to find what we had thought was a good eatery in Starke- has gone down hill. Not sure we will go back! read more

So this place needs two ratings. One for the bar and one for the food. The bar: 4 stars! good atmosphere, good music, good drinks and prices. The food: 2 stars... Everything came out over cooked. The steak, to say the least, was sad and over priced, Thin and tasteless. But The onion rings were good. I feel this a place to order only fried foods (bar food).
