It's been many years since we ate at Captain D's, and after this it'll probably be many more before we do again. I ordered the 10 shrimp meal with fries and green beans, with a piece of spicy battered fish added on. Mama got the senior fish and shrimp plate with fries and corn on the cob. The fish was pretty much as I remembered it from back in the day, but the portions are a lot smaller than then. And the "spicy" just isn't. Fries were not good on either plate, and mamas corn was mush, like it had been sitting in a pan of water all day. The green beans were ok, nothing to write home about, as were the shrimp. Very unlikely that we'll be back, especially with Cedar River so much closer and better. read more

The family went to Captain Ds on Easter Sunday. Everyone was very happy with the food and the service. Thank you so much!

Had a craving for fried fish. Didn't have high expectations and it's a good thing. Asked a couple questions about the menu and two different employees tried to talk to me at the same time. One had no concept of what an inside voice was. The second employee was trying to explain some options and the other loudmouth employee began shouting hello to other customers and the cook was also shouting orders they were putting in the window. I couldn't hear the person trying to take my order over the other two people. Yet, they made me feel like there was nothing wrong with all their yelling and that I was the one with the problem. I see no reason why the cook had to shout "Order up!" every time they put a plate in the window when all the employees had to do was turn around and look to see if it was there. If I wanted to get yelled at, I'd go to Moes. I guess next time I want fish, I'll go to Cedar River. Maybe if they quit their yelling here they'd have less empty seats. read more

This place has got its game back up not sure if they have new management or if the owner was just tired of all the complaints but on my recent visit, the staff was on point. A fast-food seafood restaurant when you walk in you go up to the counter to place our order. Regular sides include fries, slaw, or green beans. They also have premium sides that are baked potato or mac and cheese. They offer other sides but these are my go-to. once your food is ordered you get your number and your drink and sit. They bring the food to you so you get a combined feel of table service with fast food. On this visit, I was really impressed by the staff's friendliness and their quickness to serve. I was also impressed by how clean they kept the sitting area. My food was delivered quickly hot and fresh. Overall a really great experience and truly much better than in past visits. read more

I work at a Local nursing home I called that morning when they opened to let the manager know we were coming that our residents had chosen them for their lunch in the manager was super sweet told us they would be ready and to come on in we got there and the service absolutely amazing and very quick with helping us even when we got mixed up because we had so many orders they were awesome never did we feel like anyone was irritated or annoyed with us we felt so welcomed this crew was truly AMAZING and our residents loved the food we still had people talking about the food this morning so huge thank you to everyone who helped us yesterday you guys are the best read more

The staff at this location is on top of their game. The young woman who took our order was so friendly, helpful and professional. You really can't go wrong if you want a quick and tasty meal for under $5 (and you happen to be in Starke). Although they have tons of healthier options like grilled, seared, blackened and baked fish, I went for the $4.99 fried seafood platter with a loaded baked potato and broccoli. My mom had the same, but with salad instead of a potato. I absolutely love Captain D's hush puppies. They were hot and crispy - better than most other hush puppies at finer restaurants. And don't forget about their dipping sauces/condiment bar where you will find ketchup, tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, spicy mayo, malt vinegar and more. The entrees we ordered were more than enough and we both ended up taking leftovers back home. My loaded baked potato definitely reheated well. FYI: If you want to go more healthy, order from their Captain's D-Lites Menu where all of those entrees are under 500 calories. The regular menu does include other healthier options like baked fish, rice, baked potatoes, broccoli and salads if you don't want to eat anything fried. Overall this was an excellent experience. The inside of the restaurant was clean, bright and cheery so it's actually very nice to eat-in. I haven't been to Captain D's in a couple of years so this was a treat. How to describe a captain D's to someone? Well, if they are from the east coast or ever eaten at Long John silvers, I would have no problem hitting the main questions someone might ask. However, I always assume that my reader has absolutely no knowledge of what to expect, and or I'm speaking to a small child; thus making my evaluation lengthy but " thorough". First imagine that a fast food restaurant is being held in Captain Jack Sparrow's man cave, and it's as loud as a Metallica Concert with nobody allowed away from the speaker. The food is as to be expected, everything is fried and covered in grease, so delicious. :) Now, the service is really the only factor that I truly examine, due to lunch and dinner rushes, football games, and believe it or not, the weather plays a huge role; almost as much as paydays. The service here was as fast as to be expected with the time of day, but everyone was smiling, highly impressed. read more

First time I'd been here in like 20 years. We went through the drive through. Ordered 2 kids meals both popcorn shrimp, 1 adult meal of fried (white) fish, macaroni n cheese and an extra order of hush puppies (6). At the window we were met, not greeted, by a woman who was obviously very annoyed that we even existed. We waited about 10 mins for the food and god forbid we ever ask for melted butter, idk if they even offer it but don't ask her for it. Disappointed with our service tonight. Usually I love going here, but the last few times we've went, it was not up to par. The girl behind the counter seemed lost. She blatantly told us the only thing we could get to drink was root beer because all the other sodas "weren't right". The root beer tasted flat. Drove by and saw the fish and shrimp meal $4.99 on the sign and had to turn back. It was soooo much better than I could've possibly expected. Stopped by for lunch yesterday. Service was good. I ordered the lemon pepper white fish. When I finally received my order the fish was so salty that it burned the inside of my mouth! The corn on the cob was grey and soggy. When I first ordered at the register, I commented that I did not like not being able to see what was rung up and she said that I can look at my receipt...ok...When I received my receipt it was illegible because the ink was low. I asked them to read the receipt to me but...damn...I am sure that I paid for 3 drinks instead of 2. I will never eat at this place again! The place was dirty too. aughhhhhhhhh. The grilled white fish and skewered shrimp with sides was fantastic. Everything was fresh made. Everything was hot and ready to enjoy. Large piece of fish, healthy portions for the rice and sides.
