I have to say, the service was great. Our server was attentive and we never had to wait for anything. That said....it's not the same Dorsey House we remember. We were a party of 7, 4 adults and 3 children. 3 of us ordered burgers, one ordered a BLT, kids ordered pizza, salad, and chicken nuggets. Salad and Nuggets were great. The rest was downhill. It wasnt that our burgers tasted bad, we just had to eat them with a fork and knife. The shredded lettuce on top may have been a nice touch, but there was about a cup of it. The bacon was not crispy, and the bun was soggy from the tomato. When I tried to pick the burger up it fell apart. Everyone else had the same experience. I ordered a hot tea, which was obviously made with an old tea bag and had no flavor. The kid's pizza was dry and overcooked, so the server graciously took it off the bill and gave her some mashed potatoes and gravy. This is really a wonderful place with great character. There are spaces available for large groups. And a bar area both upstairs and downstairs. There are televisions for sporting events as well. Friend told me we had to try this, we're no longer friends (just kidding). Nice looking place from the outside, inside is a little dated but it's in the middle of nowhere so it's not that bad for where it is (Clyde Michigan). Service was good, the little mini loaf of bread was nice. The potato skins looked burnt and awful, didn't taste that bad just looked bad. Kind of disappointing that they also just have us a little mini take out container of sour cream. You get three half's, so basically one and a half potatoes for $11.00. To me all the salads and starters were overpriced. The pricing for the meals was hit or miss, mini individual pizza with two toppings $7.99, to me that's a $4.99 deal. The chicken was $16.99 and had an overwhelming amount of garlic spice infused with the Parmesan caked all over it, very amateurish dish making it inedible. The Reuben tasted great, meat was a little on the thick side for me. I prefer my deli meats shaved, but that's just me. Like I said it tasted good and I believe it was $12.99 with a side of house made potato chips, which were very bland. It's a nice place in the middle of no where so for the people living around here it's great to have, I believe it's been around since 1847 which is great. We reserved an upstairs room for a memorial dinner. The management and staff were great. The room was set up very nice. The food was phenomenal. The salad was a big hit. The roast beef so tender and juicy. The cheesy potatoes delicious! The green bean almondine was served cold was kind of strange though. And the reason for not 5 stars is the dinner was supposed to include fresh baked bread. They never served any. Being a memorial I was too involved with everything to notice until it was brought to my attention afterwards. I brought it to managements attention and was only offered a sorry. No offer to deduct from the bill. No other offers to make it right. Remember this is a memorial dinner of many tables not just one. This is of course no reason to not go here. Newer version of the old Dorsey House has been built but still a great atmosphere. The Kangaroo lounge is separate from the dining room do you can bring the family for a good meal. The food was tasty and served pretty quickly. The server was very busy but did a great job keeping us well serviced. For me this is a bit of nostalgia and I was not disappointed. The potato skins are covered in velveeta like sauce, not real cheese, the mozzarella sticks are rubbery, I had the burger with cucumbers and dill sauce. I ordered it well done, definitely wasn't, bottom bun was super soggy and unappetizing, meat had zero seasoning in it, bacon was limp and unappetizing, husband got the sliders and chips, meat was bland, chips tasted like a bucket of grease. My husband and I ordered the rib eye. We are positive this was sirloin. It was tough, unseasoned, and dry. There was no marbling on the steak, and there was tough grizzle in it. The waitress was great but the food was not. I got the fish and chips and the fish was kind of chewy. My husband had ribs and chicken and said the chicken tasted spoiled, the ribs he said tasted like they had been sitting for awhile, heated back up then slapped with sauce. First of all, let me start out by saying that My wife and I will go back to give this place another try. I had ate here before with some friends that I used to work with and it wasn't too bad. So I told the wife I would take her to the Dorsey House so she could give it a try. Got there for early dinner on a Friday. We were seated by a server who was obviously new (her second day) but with a lot of enthusiasm. She was shadowing a seasoned waitress. We ordered the Smothered Chicken; My wife got Chicken Soup and I ordered the French Onion Soup. We both got baked potatoes. The baked potatoes were actually the best part of the meal along with the warm bread they brought to the table. The smothered chicken was burnt along the edges and very dry. It was like the cook was trying to hide the chickens appearance under the cheese and onions. The chicken soup was VERY SALTY. I know they put the cheese on the French Onion soup under a broiler, so it takes a little longer. The chicken showed up at the table way too fast. The French Onion soup showed up well after my entree. It was okay, but only luke warm, loaded with croutons and also a little salty for my taste. The manager came over and offered to get us a new order or something else. After being there as long as we were, we didn't take her up on her offer as we just wanted to cut our losses and get out of there. She took $10 off the bill. Another place would have probably comped one meal or taken more off, but it is was it is. We will give it another shot, and will maybe sit in the bar and try something a little tamer like a burger or pizza. The staff was very pleasant, but the kitchen was definitely having a BAD day. With any luck they can redeem themselves on our next visit. We had high hopes for this place as the owners used to run the Marine City Big Boy for years and always had high standards for what ever came out of the kitchen. read more
