Cinnamon and me on graduation night.

My dog, Cinnamon and I just graduated from Lise's Paws Afoot Adult Basic Manners class. We both learned a lot and really enjoyed our weekly training sessions. Our bond is even closer now and I am feeling more confident about my skills. I just wish there was an intermediate and/or advanced class. We will miss Lise and our weekly lessons.Thank You Lise for all you do!

Note the blur, his feet are dancing and his tail is going a mile a minute in anticipation. He loves coming here so much!

Originally we first went to The Dog Spot for Puppy I classes. It was a six week course, and considering we had been so diligent working on the basics at home we assumed these classes would mostly just be for socializing our tiny but fearless Yorkie. Boy, was I ever wrong. While he'd never shown any fear of people, cats, or older dogs, it turned out that he was very scared of puppies. Especially off leash puppies who wanted to play. That was when I realized how much we needed The Dog Spot. I hadn't even considered day care as I have plenty of time for the puppy. I assumed we'd only go for classes. But it turns out the puppy needed day care even if I didn't. Being only a tad over three pounds at our first class and him not knowing anything past the puppy manners he learned with his litter, he needed a chance to gain confidence around dogs before he could enjoy them. So we enrolled in their puppy preschool and it is worth every penny. After scheduling a tour and getting to talk to people working there I really felt like he would be in good hands. Not only do they keep a good eye on his progress, they also send a report card after every visit with photos and videos of his day. I really appreciate the training they give as well and the class videos are easy to follow along at home. The staff has been super helpful answering my questions and giving me recommendations too. I'm so glad we came here instead of going to some random puppy social as they really learn to know the dogs and match them up so they can control the environment and all interactions well. I've watched my puppy go from a terrified, cowering mess to a bouncy, playful little dog who loves almost nothing more than going there. He's so excited every morning when he realizes we're going and he loves everyone there. It makes me feel so proud to see him flourish and I'm so thankful for the help. I'm also thankful for a little time to myself too, it really helped with the puppy blues. 13/10 Good job!

We've been sending our 3 year old Shiba Inu to daycare here ever since he developed separation anxiety and could not be left alone while we're at work. Besides the convenient location of being on my way to work, The Dog Spot takes great care of Hanzo and he is always excited to go to daycare and play with other dogs. I really like that the dogs are grouped into small and large groups and that they limit the number of dogs in daycare to provide enough attention and care. The picture report cards are also a plus because we love seeing our Hanzo interacting and playing with other dogs.

Our baby Quill is going to Puppy Preschool here. He is a great dog but he has quite a few problems, as any pup might. The Dog Spot is amazing, they send us videos addressing any training problems we are having with him and they work with him during daycare. He always comes home tired and calm. It's been a god-send. I would highly recommend to anyone.

We were really excited to get our first puppy but we did not realize all the headaches that were to come. A month or so in, I was at Pet Pros in Lake Stevens buying a muzzle for my puppy because he would not stop biting my wife. The clerk suggested that rather than use the muzzle begin working with a trainer. She handed me Kim's card. Kim has been a great trainer. The constant nipping has become a thing of the past. Redford knows over a dozen commands. Whether he listens or not is something we are still working on :-), but he is only 6 months old. Incredible! Additionally, my favorite thing about Lake Stevens K9 Academy LLC is that I am able to board my puppy with Kim. Redford loves his "playdates". So it gives me peace of mind when I'm away from him because I know he is in a place he loves and that he's in great hands. Thanks Kim! Nathaniel and Brittany Van Duine

It is worth acknowledging that Nitro makes use of prong and e-collars in their training method, and if you have concerns about these tools, I am happy to report there's nothing to be concerned about. I have witnessed my dog gaze up lovingly and with attention at Steve while under his guidance on a prong collar; you could feel the genuine connection between trainer and dog. This kind of experience was enough for me to put any concerns I had aside and welcome the training. It's also worth noting that Steve himself can be a bit of a personality, unafraid to speak his mind and get into a range of discussion topics. Underneath the personality is a genuine human, who wants nothing more than for dogs to receive the training that will most help them get along inside the home and the world. Thanks, Steve and Nitro K9 for your help with our dogs!

After suddenly losing one of our dogs in October 2025, our 10 yo Doberman was so heartbroken. He…read morebecame critically ill, resulting in over $5,000 in emergency vet bills and little improvement. We swore to no more dogs but then we saw Mia, a 9-month-old, Doberman puppy found on the street in LA by animal control. Her leg was degloved, necrotic and filled with maggots. She was intercepted by a rehab, received amputation and much needed medical attention. We followed her story for a couple months, hoping she would find a home, but she didn't. Somehow, we caved, did the unthinkable and flew to Los Angeles, scooping her up and driving her back to Washington in a rental car mid-winter. She was terrified, ferrell and full of dominant "spicy" energy so we booked an appointment with one of the top positive-treat-based trainers with reactive-dog expertise in the state, to help us introduce our dogs upon return and it was a disaster. Our senior exploded in pure terror, barking and lunging. She tossed treats; they ignored her. Twenty minutes in she shrugged, said she had "no magic wand," sent us home and refunded half our session. 2 days later she emailed us suggesting we rehome Mia to a foster "for our safety" which felt like a slap in the face. The very next day we thoroughly researched every trainer in Washington, and Nitro K-9 stood head and shoulders above the rest. I emailed Steve and he called back within minutes with genuine understanding, zero judgment, got us in within days and made our 2-hour commute in separate cars well worth it. In the first ten minutes Steve had both dogs calmly obeying, walking together on leash, and listening! He instantly saw what the other trainer missed: our senior was fear-reactive, meaning he was scared. Steve and North have taught us clear communication and connection with our dogs. They've taught us how to properly command quick correction and full attention using high-quality prong collars, like a mother dog's natural nips. No pain, no fear, no endless treats or bribes, just genuine praise, affection, and connection, the way real bonds and parenting work. He showed us how to step into calm leadership so our dogs could relax, trust, and stop carrying the burden themselves. He stayed by our side through every panicked text, every "what now?" and our dog's transformation is nothing short of miraculous. Mia is happy, confident and loves her big brother now. Our senior knows his role and is playing with her like a puppy again. They love each other and actually enjoy being together! If you're a reactive, rescue, fearful or high-drive dog parent, have been let down by "treat-motivated training" and have avoided prong collars because of the myths, you have been misinformed like we were. Don't give up, stop scrolling and call Nitro, I promise you won't regret it! IWe are forever grateful!

I've worked in the pet sitting business myself years back, so when Loretta immediately contacted me and then came by to meet the cats, I was wary to see what we were up against. I shouldn't have had even the slightest concern! Loretta is both warm and personable, asks a ton of questions so she knew what we wanted, and got to know each of our kitties. They took to her right away (even the skittish one!) and I felt comfortable after her first "get to know you" visit. I knew our cats and fish were in excellent hands. She came daily, on schedule, spent time with the cats while we were away. She even tidied up around the house and kept them entertained! We got updates via text how they were doing, and she was always quick to respond if I contacted her. So positive and upbeat. We simply adore her and cannot recommend this service highly enough! I know that from here on out, Loretta will be our go-to if we have to go out of town because she's just fantastic with the animals and an all around fabulous lady. I've never felt *so* comfortable being away from home simply because I knew they were in amazing company. I wish I could give 10 stars, but 5 will have to do. Her prices are insanely reasonable for the amount of care she brings to the job and it was all around the best service for our meows that we could have possibly asked for!
