Cute place, not too far off the river and within walking distance to a fun dessert stop, but the service was less than stellar. It's the type of place you'd like to go and hang out it while watching a game. Menu for drinks is also fun. However, the wait for our food was nearly an hour and it wasn't crazy busy. I came into this experience very excited about the menu, but the execution was disappointing. We ordered "The Spread" with two different types of wings for our kids, along with curds and fried pickles. Our spread came out, after an hour wait, with only one of the wing sauces we ordered and it was not the one they really wanted. The pickles are extremely thin and very heavily breaded so it's hard to taste the pickles amongst the heavy breading. Curds were fine. I ordered the Balsamic Chicken Quinoa Bowl and to my surprise it came out cold. It wasn't cold as if it was made with cold ingredients, it was the type of cold that makes you think it sat for a while before being delivered to the table. If it is supposed to be cold, it should be notated on the menu. After waiting so long for our food we didn't even bother with asking for something else or letting the server know that things weren't right. We just wanted to get on our way to get to our destination. The server never acknowledged the long wait time or offered to do anything to compensate for it, which leads me to believe this may be commonplace at this establishment. I should have taken the warning from other reviews about the poor service, but since they weren't recent we thought we'd give them a chance to redeem themselves and earn a great review. I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and it came with fries. It came out really quick and was hot off the grill. The fries were obviously freshly fried as well. The place was clean, had music playing to a level you could still have a conversation. Multiple TVs playing but volume off which was fine with me. Just a few things to mention. Service was very good. We were sat right away. We ordered pickle fries which came out quick and were very tasty. One minor complaint for me was the amount of breading with a thin sliced pickle in the middle. For my meal I ordered the maple bourbon burger, I will say the burger was very salty. I couldn't finish it all, so I ended up taking it home. Here's my main complaint. I'm finding out a lot of places are not very handicap accessible including the lack of handicap parking, before we left I needed to use the bathroom. I could barely get into the bathroom with my walker. My daughter had to hold the door as I squeezed myself in. I'm not a big person either. Just a tight squeeze all together. Once I got to the handicap stall, there was no lights towards the back. It was very dark. I also noticed there were no rails to hold onto as I tried to sit down on the very low toilet. I'm recovering from hip surgery and it wasn't easy sitting/getting off the toilet. I also happened to look up to see if there were lights and maybe there were burned out and that's when I noticed a extremely dirty exhaust fan. It looked like it hasn't been cleaned in a while. Not a huge deal, but The District always seemed to me as a big upscale restaurant, I felt a little under dressed. I recently spent the night in Eau Claire for business and was pointed towards the District by a friend. We walked in and sat right at the bar. We were instantly greeted by the bartender who asked us what we wanted to drink. I heard the spotted cow (local beer) was delicious so that's what i went with. Served in a giant glass, it did not disappoint! Light and easy to drink. Whenever i travel i try to make sure i order what's local and what do you find in Wisconsin? Some of the best cheese in the country! So naturally, we started with the spicy cheese curds. These were perfect! Crispy on the outside, gooey and cheesy on the inside. They had the perfect amount of heat! I think i could crush 2-3 baskets of these if i was hungry. Next i went with the cheese head. This was a burger, topped with lettuce, bacon, house sauce and a GIANT CHEESE CURD PATTY!!! This burger was cooked perfectly and if i wasn't so full from the curds and the beer, i would've eaten every bite! Great spot for a meal, a beer and to watch the game in Eau Claire! We were the first customers in the door on a Sunday, intent on finishing up the Cheese Curd Crawl that day. That said, our visit here was focused, short, and thoroughly pleasant. We had fantastic service. I ordered a Cider Boys apple cider while my husband got a beer. I had never been to this place before the Sunday night of mother's day. I was working late downtown, and there is literally no where open to eat and I wasn't in the mood for a sub or pizza. This place was like an oasis in the desert. We got there about 8:45 pm, full menu, kitchen open. The burger really hit the spot. I got the crazy burger with two-grilled cheese sandwiches instead of a bun. I could barely eat half. We had to go back to work for a couple of hours, so couldn't have a beer from there comprehensive tap selection or top shelf spirits. Happily, I have went back there 5 times in the last couple of weeks with different friends, usually for a beer and appetizer after work, once with a large group for a grad party. I will say the staffing seems a bit thin at times, but that's the way it is right not, but these people are friendly and really bust their butt. Our only long wait was the large group. The French Onion soup was barely lukewarm and tasted more from a can... salty, processed. You can tell that it was sitting on the warming pad for quite some time. Had to go to Eau Claire for work this week, so I stopped here for supper. Walking in, they have a couple different levels. When you get to the bar, they have everything ranging from your basics to some of the higher end liquors like Jack Daniels Sinatra and Don Julio. I ordered one of their "Beat the Heat" drinks and it was a great summertime drink! The blueberry vodka and lemonade went well together and it was pretty dangerous with how quickly and easily it went down! I ordered their spicy burger and it came out quickly. The burger was decent, wasn't the best but wasn't the worst. I also ordered their Cajun fries. If you do go that route, they are very good, but just make sure you like Cajun spice! Looked around for some good food when I was up there on Labor Day. District was open so I decided to try it out. The bartenders were nice and answered some questions I had while shooting the stuff with them. My biggest question, what's the draw for garlic vodka, or bacon vodka? I figured bacon would be great with bloody mary's and was told the garlic is good if you don't overdo it. I ordered the Showdown Za (comes with bacon, burger and jalapenos with a spicy ranch drizzle) and it was delicious. It was a 14" pizza and I ate all of it. I walked here from the Lismore so didn't have to worry about parking but it looked like there were a few parallel parking spots available and a couple blocks away is a parking garage. Tried going here at 3:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday... they told us they're were booked up through the evening even though every table was empty. We used to like the food, but every time we tried going there the last 4 Months, they were either closed or had an excuse. Do not recommend anymore. Let's start with the good things. The only thing I can say is the place is kind of neat on the inside. Now, the not so good report... My husband and I wanted a good evening night out in the town. We had passed The District several times and thought it would be a cool place to go to. We went in, the host wasn't very "welcoming" to say the least. She wasn't upbeat, saying anything like, "oh sure, let me check for you" after asking if there was any available seating other than the bar. It was a very downplayed kind of like a "whatever." Basically, she seemed almost bothered. She had short dark hair, almost black, and glasses. We got seated. We got our menus from another person, not the host..we were then asked for our drink order by the bartender, and was served our drinks shortly after. Took them forever to take our food order. We ordered the Beer Cheese 'n' Chips, but the other 2 dip options with our app was salsa or guac. We didn't care for the dip, and we were going to ask for salsa or guac instead, but NO ONE came to our table, not even to ask how we were doing or how everything was tasting! We then were served the food by someone else, and she looked like she absolutely hated her job! She looked like that the entire time we were there. No one asked if we needed anything, no one cared! We got our food. I had a sandwich I switched out with a chicken breast, it was normally a beef burger. It had bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo. I asked for red onion, of course, a .50 upcharge. I got Cajun Fries, and my husband had the Farmhouse BLT but he didn't want the egg, and he also had Cajun fries. The flavor of the food was ok, but the temp was lukewarm to cold! I'm irritated and saddened that such a swank place could have such bad service and quality! Right across from the Pablo Confluence CTR too! No one cared, and we felt neglected. Not once were we asked how we were doing, not once! To ask your customers how they are doing, is NOT a short staffed problem! It is a customer service problem! It was 54 degrees outside, and the fans were not only on and cranked up, but the air conditioner was on, why??? If you're going to have the fans on, at least turn the air off!! We got our bill, and couldn't wait to leave! We were charged almost 70 bucks for 2 people!! My husband's drinks which were fair was 16.50 for 3 double Captain Morgan's and a diet. My Bahama Mama was 8 bucks for 1. The rest was absolutely nickel and dime you to death! We were charged 2 bucks each for Cajun fries!! The bartender acting as a waiter didn't even tell us it was going to be an extra charge! We were so unhappy, and we NEVER EVER walk out without tipping, but what were we supposed to tip and WHO?!! By the way, fun fact, it wasn't that busy in there! If you're going to be short staffed or use it as an excuse, then limit your available seating! You have to take care of your customers, PERIOD! Oh, and might I add, they charge you 2 bucks to use your credit/debit card?!!! If you're looking for a great time, head to The Lismore instead. It was classy, and the people there were friendly. Also, we should have gotten pizza there because it looked and smelled heavenly, right from their wood-fired pizza oven!! We didn't get anything but a drink there. The District, please listen to your customers and fix what IS broken! Have a staff meeting, SOMETHING! Also, where are your managers, and if anyone in there was a manager and let that place run the way it did last night, than that is epically sad! Even though we will NOT be back, I hope you change your ways for the better! I hope someone does reach out to me. A manager or someone needs to at least get back to me. This was top three worst I've ever had. Prefab salad croutons thrown in and covered with two slices of white flavorless "cheese" that looked like Kraft singles. And they were only barely melted. Clearly just thrown on at the end and only the heat of the soup melted them. The best part of French onion is to have the cheese broiled over the top. About 15 min after I got my food the bartender finally asked if everything was ok. I said it's ok but it all came out at once. She replied "it did?" And then walked away.
