Lunch specials Summer 2023
Chris L.

You're visiting a relative from the old country who wants to cook for you, and she cooks very well. Sit down, enjoy a glass of beer or wine that you brought with you while your meal is prepared fresh. Yes, there's lots of cabbage and beets, not a ton of fresh vegetables. The sauerkraut salad is amazing, the coleslaw and beet salads are also excellent. The pierogies are beautiful stuffed pillows of meat, potato, or cabbage, delicious. The huge potato pancake filled with tender Hungarian goulash is a must, a little bit of sour cream on top, just right. And don't miss the daily specials, I have to come back for those. Extremely reasonable prices, three of us ate well for under $60 before tip. Where can you do that these days? My only minor complaint: the place is hot, the air conditioning just couldn't keep up, and we were the only table in the place.

Went here for lunch today with my son and we absolutely loved the food. It is a tiny place. There was only one woman most likely the owner working all three tables and cooking all the food. I took one star off just because service was lacking but she was doing it all by herself. We weren't given napkins, or silverware, my son got up and got them himself. The food did take awhile to come out but was so good once it arrived. I definitely want to go back to try the stuffed cabbage and borscht. The lemonade pictured was a little weird.

I was in this neighborhood hoping to have some easy access to goulash and gołabki, and I was lucky to find this place. Small store front but the interior is pretty cozy. Young waitress makes me think its a family run business, plus peeking back into the kitchen, you can see everything being made and put together with love! Overall, everything was well balanced in flavor, and of course add salt if you want, that's why they have salt and pepper on the table. Homemade gnocci with the goulash was a great texture with the beef, and the mashed potatoes and pork stuffed cabbage rolls and sauce went perfectly together. I really hope to try more eastern european food in the area-- some cuisines are meant to inundate you with flavor and spice, and some are meant to be classic, simple delights. So far, these Polish delights have me smiling!

Stuffed cabbage, Mashed Potatoes, and Fried Cabbage

If you enjoy Polish food, add this spot to your list. Menu is robust for such a small restaurant. Food is homemade. I highly recommend the meat patties and stuffed cabbage. Don't miss this one folks!

Go here!!! Some incredible Polish, Ukrainian, and Eastern European traditional dishes here! I highly recommend the stuffed cabbage and the borscht soup as top favorites but you can go wrong with polish sausage and sour krout. I went for my birthday and it's a little hole in the wall spot that should be on Diners, Dives and Drive-ins one day! Not fancy inside but more like a quick stop to enjoy some incredible food. The woman who makes it also serves it and waits on you. 100% can't wait to go again!

Mushroom pierogis

Can strongly recommend. Was with 8 person party. I had pickle soup and stuffed cabbage. Both were excellent, but especially the pickle soup, which was better than the hot borscht. I saw pictures of borscht that looked "nicer" elsewhere, but maybe it was the cold beet soup (with mushroom dumplings in it). I have also heard good things about the rye soup, tripe soup, and chicken noodle. I can also highly recommend the mushroom pierogis, which are shown here (had without sauerkraut; they also have a version with sauerkraut). Stuffed cabbage had really nice texture and was not too cabbage tasting, which is good. Had some meat and sauce on it, with really nicely textured potatoes on the side. Others in the party had pork chop, which is very well priced and was good, but not as good as how others have reviewed it, and it was not among my favorite dishes. Potato pancakes were also really good, especially the more well done ones (served with sour cream). I highly recommend and want to try more of the menu in the future.

Pierogies and borscht!

I feel like 'solid' is the easiest way to describe The Dinner House. The food was pretty good (my borscht was a bit meh...the meat pierogies just okay, and my cousin was brought spinach pierogies instead of mushroom...but the potato & cheese pierogies were solid as was the beet salad) and the service was very much more like a takeout joint instead of a sit-down place, as it seemed tap water wasn't even a drinking option and only beverages from a fridge were available. It was in the perfect location for us that afternoon, and a nice option to get pierogies and sit down rather than from a shop where we'd need to take them home to cook them ourselves.

Pork chops with potatoes & coleslaw and chicken cutlets with potatoes & beets

I've only recently discovered this place about a month ago, thanks to my best friend. Been here a few times since and it's now my favorite. It's a very cute little place and it's just like eating at grandma's house! The best pierogi I've had in recent years (especially the meat pierogi) and their cutlets are perfect. The stuffed cabbage is another favorite. I am not a pork chop person but I even enjoy them here! We went went last night for my birthday dinner and going back again tonight to wrap up my bday weekend right :)

Potato gnocchi with goulash- so good!

I came here with my mom over the summer for lunch. As far as I could see there was just one woman taking the orders and cooking. If you don't speak Polish you can definitely get by here. So please don't let that stop you! Now for the food- sooo delicious! I think everything is made to order so it took a little while, but definitely worth it. We ordered potato pancakes, pierogi and dumplings (like gnocchi) with a pork tomato sauce. They had no dessert that day. Everything was cooked just right. Very authentic meal (I'm 100% Polish). I've also ordered takeout and everything was great with that order too. When I went to pick it up, I saw they had a couple of desserts so I ordered a piece of cherry cheesecake- very yummy. The prices are pretty good because the portions are on the larger side. I just wish the inside was a little nicer. That's okay, it's all about the food here.

Menu. Good portions great prices.

BYOB We came with another couple on a Saturday night and it was amazing to walk into a gorgeous dining room area with a kid play space. Our two boys ages 6, loved having a lego table and toys while the adults loved having a moment of peace at the table! We literally had to beg them to come eat because they were so entertained. Do not think that it is a messy place because it is kid-friendly, quite the opposite, it was so elegant and beautiful inside. Now for the FOOD! Hubby and I ordered a tasting dish they had which included a few Polish favorites to try and it was perfect. It brought 3 different types of perogies (the potato and cheese was my favorite), stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, kielbasa with sauerkraut, and more! We could taste a little bit of everything and the portion was huge. For our boys we had the chicken fingers and fries, and this sounds silly but it was REAL chicken. It wasn't battered, just strips of seasoned chicken and fries, the kids loved them. We also shared two desserts there was an ice cream with fruit (which was gorgeous) and a cole apple pie. I'm not a huge fan of the desserts but the presentation was incredible. The only downside is that service is a bit slow, but since it is BYOB, just take ur time drinking your wine. Overall I would highly recommend trying out Flavor of Poland and will be returning!

Everyone eating seemed to be enjoying themselves. I went with my husband, son , another couple and their son and it almost felt like a double date. There is a kids section and the two were able to relax play read watch tv and just hangout together. Close enough to see them but couldn't hear them lol. The food was different but definitely would go back to try more things and enjoy the place itself. The plates were beautifully arranged. And it is byob. I ordered the chicken and husband the pork both pretty good. The other couple ordered the polish platter and the kids got chicken and fries and we got for dessert ice cream, apple pie and fruits.

Went to Philly recently with my wife and the only plan we made ahead of time was getting a…read morereservation at Little Walter's. Both of us love kielbasa and pierogies so when my wife found a write-up about this place she was sold. Luckily we took an Uber because we never would have found this place on our own. Little place in the middle of a neighborhood and when we got out of the car the aroma was enough to bring us in. They make the most of their space so expect to be close to other tables if you come here. Certainly not the place to come for private conversations. It was 100% what I would have expected for this kind of local Philly neighborhood place. Our server was awesome as she helped us with the menu and made great suggestions. We started with a couple drinks (cannot remember which ones) and bread with a whipped cream cheese/butter concoction with cracklings mixed in (OMG just THIS was worth the Uber ride). We started with the Kielbasa appetizer (kiełbasapork shoulder, coriander, marjoram) with pickles. The pickles were so good we found out where they got them and bought some the next day and the kielbasa was amazing. For dinner we ordered two beers and for our meals we got the Pierogi Ruskiepotato, farmer cheese, caramelized onion, sour cream, the Pierogi Z Grzybamimycopolitan mushrooms, buttermilk ranch and the Wieprzowina Z Rożnarotisserie pork, herb potatoes, bigos. The pierogi both had really deep flavors and were excellent. The mushroom pierogi had a consistency and flavor that made it seem like a ground meat rather than mushrooms. The rotisserie pork was perfection on a plate. Full of flavor and very rich. We had leftovers, but wanted it that way!! We saved enough room for dessert and ordered the Szarlotkaapple hand pie, black walnut streusel, cultured ice cream, Sernikspiced honey cheesecake, rye crust, whey caramel and a flight of three Polish liqueurs - Nalewka Domowa - we tried the blackberry, cantaloupe, and krupnik. The dessert was flaky and not too sweet, but the ice cream added the right amount of sweetness. The cheesecake was also very good and not overly sweet. The liquors were really flavorful and something I'd never tried before. I was expecting something like a brandy but it was a lighter consistency-very good. If you're in Philly and want an amazing meal with great service - Little Walter's is a must-try!
