It would have been even better if they had a person walking selling hot cider, and cocoa to your seat like they do at the baseball games. Known for staging shows both traditional and outlandish, CSP's recent season included The Rocky Horror Show, She Loves Me, Sweet Charity and Reefer Madness. As you can see they're down with variety. Columbus' only all-musical troupe, they seem to have honed the art. Their current home is Axis Nightclub, which gives the shows a dinner-theater quality (the full bar is open during shows). Performances are always intimate, and frequently include audience involvement of one kind or another. Don't be surprised if a zombie brushes past you at some point or an actor lands in your lap. (Sometimes literally - the stage is unusually shaped and on the small side and actors have been known to fall off during rehearsal...) It seems the rotating group of directors each have their own style, but all have a wicked sense of humor and it shows. And while the quality of show can vary ever so slightly as the cast and production staff change for each show, I've never experienced a show here that wasn't highly entertaining and worth my ticket price.

I'm not much for show tunes, but they seemed to have a pretty fair gathering. Their performance wasn't half bad, but they were absurdly loud, like ear-bleeding loud. They were really belting it out. It didn't help that their amp was echoing off the neighboring buildings. I felt bad for the other street performers who were being totally overshadowed. Despite Center Stage's disregard of the city sound ordinance, I'm a big fan of community theatre and would love to see one of their traditional live shows. They billed Rocky Horror last month. It seems like everyone around here grabs onto that story. The venue is appealing as well. They perform at Axis nightclub. Tickets are usually under $20 and can be purchased at the door the night of the event or online beforehand.

Prior to the performance, I had asked several locals about the theatre and was simply told that it was small, hence the name. Thank you, Captain Obvious. So, with not much to go on, my expectations were pretty low. Even so, the ticketing system for this theatre is ridiculously antiquated. To reserve a seat, you have to leave a message on their answering machine. Make sure you have lots of time on your hands when doing so because you will have to sit through a greeting that goes on forever with no way to bypass it. If there is a way, please let me know how. The message will ask you to leave your information and that your call will ONLY be returned if there is a problem with your reservation. I am the type of person who wants confirmation of my reservation. Because this theatre is a good 45 minute drive from my house, I want to feel confident that my reservation is in good order. Not surprisingly, since coming here my reservations have been botched twice. Once, I left my message several days in advance, but It was never received. Last week, my message was received, but my seats were given away to someone else who also (supposedly) had my (very uncommon) last name. Highly unlikely, in my opinion. In both instances, we were accommodated with seats, but I would have been upset had we been turned away. Aside from that hassle, we adore this theatre. Yes it is small and seats less than 100, BUT the productions are spectacular! I was amazed at how much they could do on such a small stage. Choreographed dance numbers, intricate sets, top notch voices and reasonable ticket/concession prices make this historic theatre an absolute treasure in Grove City. Each seat has a narrow table in front for food and drinks, which was a nice touch. The surround sound system was solid. Parking is mostly located behind the building and can be pricey when enforcement is in effect. Unfortunately, the theater can't assist with parking since it's not their lot. The bartender was fantastic--very friendly, explained where the theater was, how ordering works, and answered all of our questions since it was our first time there. We ordered pizza, which came out quickly and was delicious. We tried the Elephant and the Hot Swarm--both excellent. They offer 40 beers on tap, along with cider, wine, and hard liquor. We walked into the theater and they have tables setup so you can sit at and put your drinks and snacks on the table instead of having to hold them on your lap. What a great great idea! The couple a few spaces from us had a large pizza in front of them. The chairs were extremely comfortable and it was the perfect getaway date night. When we arrived we saw a beautiful property, had exceptional customer service and check in, the room was unique and huge, and also very clean. The on site amenities were great, the landscaping and theming was emasculate, and the on site restaurant had delicious food for each meal. Several weddings happened on site while we were there and all of that looked very intimate and special for them. The pool complex was very nice and clean. I loved my experience and highly recommend this property to anyone who wants a unique experience in Ohio! Thank you for the memories!
