I absolutely loved this experience! I went with my husband and he got picked to be a suspect. Our table worked as a team against the other tables. It's not a sit down show and at times we are asked to stand up and go investigate, ask questions about clues that the other tables have. Great way to get everyone to talk with the other tables. Our meal was included in our ticket and nothing more than what we already pay at any restaurant nowadays. I can't wait to bring my family and friends, they'll love it! It's a comedy and I was a bit hesitant about it because I hate cheesy jokes, and OMG the jokes in the show are AMAZING. My husband and I went to the Murder Mystery Company for our anniversary meal/entertainment. We had never been to a dinner theater/murder mystery before - so we did not know what to expect. Our first impression was that the location was good, parking was great, and seating was OK, but cramped. We were seated at a table for 6 and ended with with 2 couples that came together - very nice people. The service was good - keeping my drink full and clearing our places promptly after we finished each course. I knew ahead of time that drinks were a la carte - but I did not know that gratuity for the meal/presentation was separate. My husband and I agree that all should be included in the upfront cost so you don't feel nickel-and-dimed to death. The meal was fine. My husband hated the salad - but I as a more ecletic eater enjoyed it. It was mixed greens with sliced fruit and a light vinagrette dressing. We both liked the main course (stuffed pepper for me and chicken for him). Dessert was rated good by him and OK by me (where can you really go wrong with brownie and vanilla ice cream. A French Vanilla would have raised it to GREAT, but it was OK - good). The storyline was a bit difficult to follow - since audience members could not necessarily be heard in their acting parts and were sometimes confusing in what they said. It might have helped to either select better "actors" or to include more of the storyline in print in the binders. The length was about right. I wouldn't have wanted another "scene" or "act." I really liked the fact that you could get involved and participate as much or as little as you wanted. We chose to watch and not get up and ask questions or interrogate the principal players. The couples at our table milled about somewhat by the end of the play. The mystery was definitely solvable. I won't give the "who dunnit" away - but as soon as it was explained to us who did it and why, I rolled my eyes and smacked my head - I should have picked up on the clues. Would I go again? Yes - IF - we went with another 2 couples that we enjoy socializing with. I know we'd have a much better time and be more engaged. As to the liquor license - as a non-drinker, I'm happy that they don't serve alcoholic beverages. I do think that this type of entertainment is not family-friendly and would not appreciate having children in the audience. In Kentucky we have a murder mystery company and cast that I've witnessed several times. Their scripts rotate monthly, but I became a bit bored after watching them about three times. Soooo, I was excited to learn that The Murder Mystery Company was coming to Equus Run Winery from Columbus, Ohio. Their production was way different than the other one. Some can interpret that to be good, but I didn't. I want to sit back and relax, enjoy my wine and dinner and entertained. This show was way too interactive for my liking. I think there were only 3 different cast members and they started their act by mingling way before the show, while we were still up doing our wine tastings. It was then, prior to the show that they chose one person from each table to act as a "suspect". What do you know, I was chosen. They wanted me to go from table to table and ask questions in exchange for the bribery dollars... which I didn't quite understand, because I seemed to won at that and had about five of the paper bills and hadn't a clue what to do with them at the end. What was the prize or recognition? The wine was good (as always). The food was catered by a different company and was good too. So luckily, the night prior to Valentine's Day wasn't too much of a flop. I definitely wouldn't recommend it or bring a friend. read more

Here's the short review: please don't go here. I went here with a group for a birthday party and it was a painful experience. The room is not well set up for a theater production so it is hard to see at times and the sound system is poor, so it is nearly impossible to hear what is going on unless you are close -- plus it's super crammed. No one at my table or near us could understand what was going on. The performers were mediocre at best, but they really hardly spoke at all. The low-budget performance relies on random people from the audience to act as characters, but they are relied on too heavily. Random people at the show can't effectively communicate the story they are given and the overall effect is a yawn-incuding, confusing performance. The "real performers" end up badgering the audience volunteers the whole performance to say certain things. Who killed who? Who cares. The food was mediocre at best -- dry chicken, a pasty dessert. The entire thing is incredibly overpriced, even if you have a Groupon. I could look around the room and see the dull look on everyone's faces; somehow we all made the same collective mistake. I read the previous review and must say I disagree wholeheartedly. We came with a groupon with two tickets for 54. A good value. If I had paid 120 I would have been disappointed. The location is an adorable looking country home with standard antiques. (sort of like a cracker barrel without the rockers). The place is called the Morgan house. Parking is plentiful and free. My mother and I attended July 21, 2012. We arrived 15 minutes late as we drove from Akron. Yes. The seating arrangement is long Amish style dining. But the murder mystery is meant to be solved by teams sitting at the tables. The food is fair, although not gourmet. But that is what happens at events with 150 people. (the food is fine. Think of rubber chicken political dinners). The staff is polite an very helpful. The event is fast paced and funny. The people are proud to be there and are doing there best to be entertaining. Here are some suggestions for improvement: 1. Some of the tables cannot see the action at the center of the room. I have attended 2 shows by this company and loved both. The actors were great, easy to interact with and the themes of the dinners we're fun! Added bonus is they have acquired their liquor license so beer and wine are available. The food isn't the best I've had but it isn't the worst. I enjoyed getting up and going around and "interviewing" suspects. It gets your creative juices flowing. It's great for nights out with friends or just a date with that special someone. Overall I didn't hate it but I never want to go again. I wanted so badly to love it. It just fell short. Food: sub-par but decent. Really not much more to say about it. Pricing: Unfairly priced we sat with people who paid half of what we did by finding tickets off on group on. We paid double for the same exact thing and it's over priced. BIG TIME Alcohol: Basic well liquor drinks. Show: They could stand to push the audience more. I brought a bachelorette party and were dressed in 80s for the show. They paid no attention to us. Matter of fact they could have done a TON more with the large group we had but they didn't deliver. They totally missed the mark with all the birthdays and parties there. It's like they didn't realize they had large groups ready for fun. I like the actors in the audience but they rely on them way to much. They need small fun parts. They also need people who WANT to do it. Making people isn't going to make for a good show. Stopping a show to say, "you can read from your binder" and "come up front with your binder" and "is that what your binder says?" Breaks the show up way too much. And the people in the show should be dressed for the show. Location: The Columbus location is hard to find. It took us 25 mins to find the door. Also the seating is horrible. I was between two wobbly tables in a uncomfortable chair. The location had nothing to do with the show and you wanted us to pretend we were at a rock concert while we were at some weird mom and pop place with a huge fire place behind you. It's also hot. Turn down the Ac Service: The servers are great. They are fast. Nice and make the over priced show worth it. Acting: They stayed in character. They dressed the part. Story line: Easy to follow. PG. I was hoping for more. It fell flat. I was bored. I couldn't hear the other people in the show sitting far away. Case work: They want you to mingle between tables. I can see how this would be easy in a large place but in the small place we were it was hard and uncomfortable. I think they need to tweak the show per location. Pictures: Cute. Fun addition. The props had NOTHING to do with the show nor did the background though. That could use some work. If you figure out who did it: No prize. No real recognition. It just happens and you leave. My husband I went to the show at Morgan House in Dublin, OH. We have been to several dinner theatres/murder mystery dinners, and this is the worst. I only gave one star because 0 was not an option. To begin with we were herded into a small open room with Amish "family style" seating at long wooded tables. It was so crowded that the servers (terrible service too!) were squeezed to get to the first half of the table, and had to "hand down" plates person to person (it was single servings, not family style portions). I think my husband nailed it when he said "It was the cook with the pasta!" Not only were the meal choices lame (stuffed pepper with potatoes, dry chicken cutlet with potatoes, or linguine), but it was terrible! We couldn't even eat our pasta, which was undercooked fettuccine with a generic bland tomato sauce and three little meatballs. Of course there was the store bought brownie with a scoop of sub par vanilla ice cream. Aside from the food (these tickets were supposedly $60/each regularly), the performance was horrendous! It was difficult to follow, was centered in a 6x6 open space of the floor or down the access hall to the restrooms (also inadequate) and out of view. This is an audience participation performance with one person from each table is chosen to be a suspect, and ultimately one is the culprit. However, it so crowded and discombobulated that you can't circulate, and THEY choose the person randomly. Some people are just not good in front of a crowd, and about half of the "chosen' were so uncomfortable or surprised that they couldn't "play" the part of their quickly thrust character bio that was forced upon them during the salad course (they get a binder the whole table is then asked to read as you have salad and pass bread). Another two major faux pas' of this group is they don't have a liquor license, so no wine, beer, or cocktails (although the add clearly states Plenty of Speakeasy Cocktails) and as there several children in the crowd, one of which was chosen as a "suspect" player, there were some sexual or adult innuendos that were uncomfortable (the Don's 2nd in command is Dixon Cox as they make a point of stressing, is just one example). Finally, your nonalcoholic beverages are not included, and after nearly 2 and half hours of drudgery, the troupe wrapped everything up, and as people are leaving the wait staff comes rushing out trying to stop people who already leaving, and hand off $2,50-$4.50 beverage bills and collect money and tips for service that would have prevented me from returning, if not reporting to the manager, at any other establishment. My husband and I went to the Morgan House on Saturday night for the murder mystery dinner theater. First of all, this is not theater. There was no "acting" per se. It was a show based on a huge amount of interviewing. The space was totally not equipped for this type of performance. It was cramped/uncomfortable seating arrangement. We were encouraged to get up to interview suspects, but there was no room in the place to do it. The food was okay, nothing to write home about, but edible. We were very disappointed as we had been looking forward to this date night. We were seated across from one another instead of next to each other and had to ask another couple to move to make space for us. A group of friends and I went to the Morgan House last night for dinner and a show. First, the location was cramped and not planned well for a play. Our table was in the back and couldn't see anything that occurred to the sides of the main "stage" or anything below the actors' chests. Ads for the show claim it to be interactive, comedic, and fun. Well, it's hard to say it was any of those. The actors snapped at audience members throughout the evening for not memorizing lines and for talking when they were talking. At one point, the actors asked audience members a HIGHLY inappropriate question regarding their relationships, which I found to be distasteful and cheap for only a couple of laughs. The jokes were simple, uncreative, and sometimes redundant. Many of the actors had trouble with improvising when speaking with audience members, sometimes even getting angry when they forgot their lines. The play may as well be 100% scripted and noninteractive then. In addition, the play had nearly no action at all, but only interviews. No clever jokes, no visuals = no fun! Dinner was a limited menu of stuffed red pepper, cheese manicotti, or chicken divan. The couple bites of manicotti from my friend were dry and tasteless. The chicken divan was a slightly soggy breaded chicken breast, garnished with a very simple cheese sauce. Even the bread rolls and brownie dessert were only cheap, store-bought quality. The brownie tasted like Duncan Hines mix, perhaps two minutes overdone. While I try to give leeway because they have to produce so many meals, it's hard to overlook the cheap quality food that came with a $60/ticket. I expect better from a long-standing restaurant. The food seemed more like something that even I, a college student, could have whipped up. We used a Groupon for 50% the ticket prices, but it still wasn't worth it to me. I went last Thursday with 3 other girlfriends, and had a great time! The story line was fun, and the actors kept the show moving along. I don't think that I would recommend it for children under 16 or so. There were a lot of sexual references at times. All of us had the chicken entree, and really enjoyed it. The servers kept the drinks refilled and were quick at clearing the tables. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars is the lack of a liquor license. We attended the show at The Morgan House in March 2013. It was my boyfriend and I and another couple. It was an 80's theme and 80's dress was encouraged. We all had a blast and couldn't believe some of the negative comments we had read on this site! Our experience was fabulous and we thought the show and the actors were very professional and likeable. They worked well with the other attendees and each other. I don't believe for one second that any of it is easy to do. The show itself really depends upon audience participation and how the audience responds to what they are being asked to do. Its supposed to be fun and silly so if you are a quiet, introverted, wall-flower kind of person then this is definitely not the evening for you. If you have an open mind going in and plan on having a good time then I am almost certain that will happen. We were seated with 5 other people at our table that we did not know but that didn't stop us from making friends and working together as a team. They do serve wine/beer (extra, of course but why wouldn't it be?) so take advantage of that and loosen up! The meal was good but I believe you really are paying the majority of the ticket cost for the actual show. We used a groupon and felt we got a great evening for the money. If you have any desire at all to do this sort of thing then I think it is definitely worth checking it out for yourself. Don't let the negative reviews here keep you from trying it. I am truly surprised by all the negative comments on here. My daughter and I went to the Wild West show tonight and we had a blast. The actors were fun and funny. The food was very tasty. We spoke with a fellow who works in the kitchen and he asked us how the zucchini dish was as it was new, it was actually very good. He did say it was the 2nd night he served that one & he had to tweak it some as it wasn't so great the first night. We plan to go back every few months to see/be part of different shows. read more

This was an absolutely miserable experience. We were forced to sit with 7 people at what clearly seats only 6. We were in the very back in which we could not see and depending hear what was even going on. Our waitress was rude, brought us a different bottle of wine that what we ordered, and seemed completely annoyed to even be there. We received tickets free due to previous foul up with a private party for my dads 75th birthday party. I was very happy that the company cared that we had a bad experience and they wanted to make up for it. We got 4 free tickets to the show in Dublin. We went on a Friday night on May 29th. The Food was cold, I had the fish, my husband the chicken, and our guests, the ravioli. All if it was cold. For the most part, seasoned well, but cold. The corona I ordered came as corona light and told they were out. The beer my husband ordered came as a light and told they were out. Our guest got the Blue moon, he ordered a 2nd one and was told they were out. The waitress forgot about us on several occasions. The show was decent, but still not as much acting and too much audience participation. I have been to these types of showers before. This company doesn't seem to understand what you spend so much money on, a show! If you are ok with paying the bill, getting cold food, bad service, and also being one of the actors, unpaid, then this show is for you. I don't want to follow a script. I want to have a good dinner and see a show. My previous experience with these type of shows...you see a murder played out, and at the end you have a chance to solve it. The audience is involved in a way that still allows you to eat dinner, have a hot dinner, laugh and enjoy the actors. It still seemed the actors were mostly there to interview the guests. When the guests that they appointed as actors didn't answer the questions correctly, they were asked if they read the binder they were given explaining to them what they were supposed to say and do. If you are looking for a broadway experience you might want to stay home. However, if you are looking for an evening of fun improv with lots of laughter then you will have a good time. This was my second time going and this time was different. They reduced the amount of people in the group so there was more room to move around. It is true that there is audience participation but that is what makes it fun. You work with your table to try and solve who committed the murder. There are only 4-5 actors and they select one person per table to be a cast member. This is done in good fun and no one is chosen who does not want to do it. The person who narrates or keeps the play going is great and their role and makes the whole evening very enjoyable. The first time I went it was a little tight with all the people but my husband and I still had fun. This time (Friday, Apr the 13th) our second time, we had a blast. Great evening at The Granville Inn with this troupe. The food was delicious and the restaurant had a full bar available. The room was spacious and offered plenty of room to move about between tables gahering clues. The regular cast did a good job of greeting people as they came in, interacting with them and then using that frame of reference to select one person at each table to play a role. Each character had a binder for reference and you worked together as a table to solve the mystery. We definitely plan to attend again at The Granville Inn. read more

From the moment I walked in the door, I was whisked back to the 1920s. We were seated with several other groups at a large table. Two people from my table were selected as characters and possible suspects for the crime that may or may not have happened. Trying to eat dinner while getting up and asking questions about the crime and investigating was difficult as the food got cold quickly. Overall it was a fun night. I took my son, his girlfriend and my daughter to a Friday night show. We had a fun time! It helps if you get priority seating so you can sit up front. 1 or 2 people from every table will be asked to be a character/suspect in the show. If you are dressed the part you most likely will be asked to participate. The room is not that small that you can't walk around. The food is decent, but the focus is the murder mystery. They serve wine and beer. My only feedback is that it is hard to get up and ask others questions when you are served food at the same time. Also it would have been nice if all the participants remembered their lines and the names of the suspects!...although the actors worked with it well. It all depends on the group that night - whether you have people who have a sense of humor/willingness to act their part who pull it all together. Go with a big group! read more

The BEST Murder Mystery event I have seen in Columbus! The entire event was so interactive and included anyone who had the courage and creativity to join along in the fun. The actors did a great job of being "regular people" which added to the show. The venue added to the small wedding theme and was so typical of what you would find - a stressed bride, tables of people who might/might not know each other, and a meal that was within price range of a small wedding budget. We laughed (a lot!) and had a blast with people we didn't even know. The food was really great for this type of event, and the service was super!! The whole room was in stitches nearly the entire time and everyone is encouraged to join in. This is a fun event to go as a group - will return with my kids... so much fun for the price. read more

Went to the Morgan House 5/23/15 for the Mystery Dinner Theatre. I have to say that it was probably one of the worst nights out I have ever had. Sound system turned up so loud it sounded as if the "actors" were screaming. The room was small with too many people- noise level was horrendous. Some of the audience members had better costumes then the actors. For the price of the tickets- even with a groupon coupon, I expected a little better quality of food. This place is terrible! My boyfriend bout a Groupon for it so we went to it last night and needless to say we only stayed for 15 minutes. First off it's literally in an old house, we thought it would be more of a theater type atmosphere. Upon entering the house there is random crafts just placed everywhere for people to buy. When we got to the "theater" part of the house we had to wait in line to get a picture taken for a wild west theme and the actors forced us to put on cowboy hats and other items that were of theme that was the first strike of the evening. We were seated with 7 other people at a crammed table talk about awkward. On the table was a card stating how the crowd is supposed to interact during the show and are required to get up and ask questions to random strangers, I felt like I was back in school on the first day of class getting to know my peers. At this point my boyfriend and I were both unhappy with the whole scenario and the cheesy attempt to make this a fun thing that we got up and left. The only reason I'm giving this "Murder Mystery" show a "2" and not a "1" is because my husband thought the acting had 'sparse moments of entertainment'. I think he was just in a good mood because it was his birthday and the Buckeyes were winning. Truth be told, dinner was shabby, service was slow and unorganized, and the show itself was mediocre. Sounds very consistent with the other reviews, except the "5" star rater... My dinner (chicken) was so overcooked that I was afraid I'd put someone's eye out if I kept puncturing it with my knife and fork. Make no mistake, the venue, The Morgan House, is nice... been there several times before. It's actually a miniature cracker barrel, styled with a charming front-end made up of unique gifts, crafts and one-of-a-kind homemade items. But the area reserved for the "Murder Mystery Co" was dull and gloomy, not exactly 'theater-like". The cafeteria-style seating made for a cram-jam fit, yet there weren't many other options. In saying all of this, my grandmother once said, 'keep negative words short' for they do not speak nearly as loud as simply not paying another dime to the company again. Thus, would I ever recommend this company to a friend, family member, or recommend that Groupon continues to co-promote this offering, Absolutely NOT. I didn't know what to expect because I've never been to one, but it was okay. The food was just alright. It was a good experience overall, but I think most of what was said above me (by Jennifer) was accurate. I was confused about what was going on the entire time. I am deaf in my right ear and I kept saying to my friend, "What? What'd they say?" when everyone was laughing. She had no idea either. I don't think it would be kid-friendly. I would not bring my child to it. I think 16 should be the lowest age that is admitted in. The other issue I had was that there was no cocktails. When it said, "Drinks not included" on the Groupon, I figured that meant alcoholic beverages. They also told us to go look in the gift shop before we sat if we wanted to, and then there was no one to ring us up until the end. We drove from Lima (about 2 hours) to see the show, and I don't think we would recommend it. It was just okay. read more
