It retains the charm of an older estate but with modern amenities. For example, during our wedding weekend, it was extremely hot outside, so we were somewhat limited in doing outdoor activities during the day. Regardless, we were able to enjoy ourselves inside, with the spacious rooms, ample seating and indoor activities, and music throughout the space. We also had a great time doing karaoke! We loved that guests who wanted to go to sleep early could. The upstairs rooms are private, quiet and well-air-conditioned. And we loved that they each had their own bathroom! We also appreciated Henrietta, Matt and their team's efforts to make sure the catered dinner was a success. The food was incredible. We loved having the option to pick from so many dishes, and all of them were fantastic. Having them handle everything allowed us to just focus on the wedding and enjoy spending time together. Maybe the thing we appreciated most of all was how quickly they dealt with any requests or (minor) issues that came up. They felt like our partners throughout the weekend, responding quickly to questions and never making us feel like we were burdening them. At the end of the weekend, a few attendees remarked that they were thinking about doing a future event at Vanderbilt, because they loved it so much. Hudson itself has great shops and impressive restaurants, but the breakfast at the Inn (pastries, granola, yogurt- all homemade- and fresh pressed juices) is also not to be missed. The owners are thoughtful and attentive, but give the guests plenty of space. It really does feel like going to a second home- but one with much nicer art, furnishings and food!

Our stay was wonderful and something she remembered with fondness for (sadly) the rest of her life. The handmade breakfasts felt to us like they were made exclusively for us and all were excellent. The suggestions for visiting the area homes of Frederick Church and Norman Rockwell was especially welcome to me as an artist as were a couple of other highlights of the trip. The Inn itself was immaculate, well appointed and felt period correct. I wish I had luggage large enough to take the purloin the Jacobean chest from my room and smuggle it back to Texas. If I lived in NYC, which I am glad I don't, I would figure out a way to spend many weekends here. I have traveled extensively through all 50 states in the last 50 years, stayed in cheap hotels and spectacular resorts so I think I know a thing or two about quality and The Inn at 34 is at the top of my list. I acknowledge that satisfaction is a relative thing depending on two things, the facility and you. I can only state that I give The Inn at 34 five very large stars. Given only five stars to choose from I cannot recommend it any higher.

After spending the last several years of travel in hotels and Airbnb's, we have come to remember how personal and inviting B&Bs are. This particular one, however, is one of the best. The BB is two blocks from Warren Street for quick access to restaurants and shops. There is also a retail shop on Warren Street where you can spot many of the unique items from the house. The shop is very well curated. We stayed in Room 5 which has a private deck off the room that my husband used every morning and evening. It's the room with the beautifully updated blue bathroom. The only thing missing from the room and the bathroom was brighter light - our eyes no longer perform as well in dim lighting! We spent most of the mornings and afternoons on several hikes throughout the area - all of them peaceful and beautiful. The waterfalls at the end were stunning.

My boyfriend and I spent the weekend here for our anniversary, figured a nice quiet 'country' escape from NYC/Long Island was up our alley. We couldn't have chosen a better place - even despite the rainy/misty/over cast weather. We arrived late on Friday - I called ahead and Mary let me know we're welcome to stroll in at any time. She gave us tips for finding the place so late at night and let us know she left all the lights on in our Eco Cottage so we'd have no trouble finding it. Once we pulled in the driveway, we walked around the main house to find the cottage ready for our arrival - and with fresh cookies to boot! From what Mary has told us, the Eco Cottage is fairly new - I honestly didn't find many images online except for on their blog. But it was the perfect size for two, had a sink, hot plate/tea kettle thing for hot water/coffee, old school radio, blow dryer, fan, AC, heater, and place to hang up and store clothing. The bathroom had an odor free composting toilet and shower (with walls made of chalk boards from a school across the river!). Also handmade soap and eco friendly shampoo and conditioner. Each morning we had a delicious, hearty breakfast prepared with fresh eggs/produce/etc. straight from their farm. On Saturday, Mary asked if we had plans for the day (which honestly due to the weather, all of my initial thoughts went out the window) and then suggested several things in the area we should check out. Ended up going to nearby Chatham for their October Feast and finished the day at the Hudson-Chatham Winery with a wine tasting. For dinner, we went to Wm Farmer and Sons in Hudson, due to their specialty in mixology (highly recommend), however another couple this weekend suggested Local 111, 5 minutes away in Philmont. Sunday morning we went to go see the pig, chickens and cows on property, practically next to the house, and met Mary's two dogs Cree and Mr. Shivers - super friendly, small, adorable. Enjoyed another amazing breakfast, packed up our things, and headed out. For anyone looking for a true, home away from home experience - I highly recommend Thyme in the Country. Mary was a fantastic host, our room was perfect, the whole weekend was peaceful and quaint. Really looking forward to coming back in warmer weather to make use of their pool! Note: there is no refrigerator in the Eco Cottage, we had purchased cheese while in Chatham - asked Mary and she had no problem putting our cheese in the fridge in the main house for us.
