The Desi Accent - Catering Order
    Monique W.

During a recent work conference in Lombard, Chicago, there was a catered lunch from The Desi Accent on Tuesday and the catering ended up being a very good meal. I had some traditional dishes like garlic naan, rice, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken! There was a variety of options for meal selections. I enjoyed the meal and thought the food was good quality and worth eating! The meals were very well seasoned and the portion size was large enough for everyone at the workshop! The butter chicken tasted fantastic! It was creamy and had bold flavors. The tikka masala tasted as if there was just the right amount of spice in the dish, therefore each bite tasted so yummy! The garlic naan was warm and soft and worked extremely well when dipped into the sauce from the curries. There was a lot of rice with the meal, which allowed you to build a full plate too! We received a lot of food for the catering order and everyone left satisfied! It is hard to find a catering service that has such fantastic food and travels well. The catering service provided by The Desi Accent was excellent. The food was flavorful! It was a wonderful addition to the conference day.

We were able to get seated after walking in on a Saturday evening without a wait. Nice ambiance inside with upscale decor and formal seating, located right between oak brook and Lombard. The food was just mediocre. We liked the chicken curry and lamb Rogan Josh was just ok, the chicken biryani I would skip as it was sweet and not seasoned well. I don't think I would come back again as there are many other Indian restaurants with better food particularly biryani.

This is my second time coming here. It wasn't very busy on a Saturday night. The parking lot has a sufficient amount of parking. We ordered shikanjvi, aam ki lassi (mango lassi), dahi bhalla, chicken ghee roast, lamb badami, and garlic mozzarella naan. Btw you'll have to order basmati rice separately since it does not automatically come with the entrees. Prices are competitive with other Indian restaurants. Portion sizes are not tiny but adequate. You'll definitely leave full after your meal. Service was great. They do add 3% if you use a card. -shikanjvi 5 - North Indian lemonade with lime, mint, and black salt. This is very good. Not sour just right. I wished there were refills on this. -dahi bhalla 5 - they're like fried dumplings with yogurt sauce. It's pretty good and worth trying out. -chicken ghee roast 5 - just a fair warning but mild is still spicy. I don't recommend it if you can't stand spicy food at all. The chicken pieces are very tender and can easily be cut up. It has a nice aroma. -lamb badami 5 - I like that it has a strong almond taste mixed with the very tender lamb. Perfect with rice or naan. -garlic mozzarella naan 5 - we usually get garlic naan but this one was delicious.

I've frequented the business next door but never got to stop in until yesterday. Traditional Indian food with great options. Free parking lot, Bar, fireplace, and great staff. Lots of seating...great for parties and single guest. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The greeters were friendly and quick to seat me. The menu options were plentiful for both meat eaters and non-meat eaters. Great selections. Because I was a first time visitor I had to sample some of everything despite knowing I couldn't eat it all. I started with drinks: Dum Maro Dum- tequila with lime , pineapple, and mandarin (perfect drink and well balanced). Very refreshing. Tradionally I prefer beer or wine with Indian food and they had nice options even for cocktails. I also had a small Taj Mahal .. my favorite Appetizers: Mulligatawny soup ( the lentils and flavor were perfect) the temperature was also great as many places seem to have warm soup these days. I also had Momos- vegetable dumplings although chicken was an option. The chilli sauce that came with it was delicious. I think I would have liked the dumpling slightly pan fried but it was still good. Dinner: cumin rice side (very large portion in my opinion) and Lamb Chilli Masala. I am a spice heat kinda of lady but this definitely has th heat even when placing peppers to the side. Very very good. The rice and naan helped balance the heat. I would reorder and ask for less heat. The Naan was the star of the show as it was garlic mozzarella and it was perfect most places warm the naan and just add minced garlic however the oil of the garlic, actual garlic with the cheese on naan...I mean it stood out as the BEST that I have ever had. I must say that I believe this has become my favorite spot in the Lombard-Oakbrook area!!! If you aren't from the area it's worth the drive as I have had Indian multiple spots in Lagrange and two in Elmhurst and option wise this is the best.

The food, service, and pricing were great! I went with my two besties last night. We had the vindaloo chicken, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, garlic naan, and mango lassi. Everything was delicious. No reservations were needed. We'll be coming back for sure!

The Desi Accent is intriguing. I always walk into Indian restaurants wondering what I am getting into. This is based on, um, prior experiences. I have to say, I like this place. Without knowing the back story, I can tell they have a passion for Indian cuisine. A nice, dim setting in the evening with dramatic lights showcasing their art. I like the color coordination, love the deco! They have plenty of specialties, both veg and non veg. They have great snacks within their "First Course", as listed on the menu. The food was fresh, rich, delicious, presented nicely, and made to order so it can, understandably, take a little time to arrive. In my opinion food has the perfect spice level. They did not tame it too much for non Indians and it doesn't make you blow smoke. Heads up butter chicken snobs, there version is a little sweet, tomato based, but with a very smokey flavor, likely because they actually use tandoori chicken from a real tandoor. I'm usually not a fan of sweet butter chicken but I understood their interpretation and finished it all. I enjoyed their lamb rogan josh, no morsel was left behind! Kheer and kulfi for dessert and they were good. For those who aren't familiar with black salt, try the Nimbu Twist. For those who like black salt, try the Shikanji for palette-pleansing refreshment. Black salt has a sulfuric smell and the taste is acquired, but definitely aids in digestion. There are plenty of other drink options fyi. Our candle wasn't lit and my wife grumbled a bit about it. That may have enhanced the romantic vibe? Who knows. I noticed a steady flow of pickup orders, as well as dine in guests, meaning the food is fresh and moving. Everyone is courteous abd friendly, though we were overlooked and they began to assist newer guests. This is a good'n. We'll be back for both the lunch menu and other ale carte menu items.

Good Indian place in DT Elmhurst. Parking can be tough, but recommend the garage a couple blocks away. Small restaurant but spacious seating. Nice staff and good food. Loved the mango mocktail and the tandoori chicken best. Price $$-$$$ depends what you get.

Romantic moody vibe that is a great place for a hang out with friends or a one on one date. Everything is well labeled if you're gluten free like myself; so that made ordering a breeze. Staff is well knowledgeable about allergies and dishes so that was nice too. Flavors and textures were spot on and authentic. Would go here again in a heartbeat.

Chana Masala, Butter Chicken, Chicken Vindaloo, Basmati Rice and the naan Assorted Bread.

We really enjoyed our meal here! The service was great, the portions appeared small but easily fed the four of us with leftovers. The vegetable samosas were great, and all of the entrees we ordered were flavorful, if you like spicy try the chicken vindaloo. The butter chicken and Chana masala were our favorites and we loved the assorted naan basket!

Every dish--except the salad--was spot on: authentic, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The chicken inferno was especially memorable, and the portions were generous. My only suggestion would be for the kachumbar salad to have more vibrant colors and fresher flavors--perhaps beets and carrots instead of the very chewy purple cabbage. I didn't try any of the cocktails, but I did have a glass of cava brut, which was served in a white wine glass and was a very generous pour. This place is truly a gem, and I hope they continue to keep the same recipes and portions because they've got something special here. We will definitely be back!

They have lunch specials, a happy hour, and tea (!) from 2-5, veg or non-veg options, which I'm definitely checking out. If you're vegetarian, items that can be made vegan are clearly marked, and there are more vegan items on the website than I saw on the menu, so I would ask. Most of the French touches appear to be on dishes with meat, though there are flatbreads and a spinach dip, and of course dessert; there is a lot more paneer on the menu than I'm used to, which might be a gesture towards the French love of cheese. Vegans would do best ordering the soya chaap or from the Accompaniments section, which includes classic Indian items (aloo gobi, dal). Overall there are about 8 vegetarian entrees / accompaniments, plus appetizer options. Restaurant serves wine, beer and cocktails in addition to the usual mango lassi, chai and soft drinks. We got a ginger mojito; mango lassi; the corn fritters; the fig/pistachio/paneer flatbread; garlic naan; rice; the soya chaap and a cardamom creme brulee. In general, food had a blend of spices but was mild, which makes sense given the French influence. The corn fritters were nicely spiced with good texture and a tasty sauce. The garlic naan is quite impressive with lots of herbs and garlic. Unless you love soy cutlets, I don't recommend the soya chaap (soy/wheat cutlets in coconut curry sauce); it's fine for what it is - the gravy was delicious and rich - but it's not for me. The flatbread was interesting; the pistachios didn't overwhelm at all but I would have liked more fig to stand up to the paneer. The spouse was impressed with the mojito; the lassi was OK but wasn't as fruity as I like. The cardamom creme brulee is served in a wide ramekin, maximizing the surface area of the sugar crust and making it easily sharable. Instead of permeating the cream, the cardamom seeds provided little bursts of flavor, which was nice but not what I expected. Service was a bit slow but solicitous - we were there on a quiet Sunday night. Copious parking; easy hours; I'll definitely check out the lunch specials and tea when I'm in the mood for local Indian food, heavy on the paneer.

We ordered gobi Manchurian, mango lassi, Indian masala tea, Maharaj dinner special for 2, shrimp masala, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, and tandoori royal platter. I've been to a number of Indian places and this place is the most generous with their food portions. Most other ones are not shareable especially for a group of 4. Prices are fair and competitive with other Indian places. Service was very friendly and attentive. The drinks are pretty good. I liked that they gave you a large glass for the mango lassi. It was creamy and flavors popped out. The Indian masala tea was good, it was savory. Fyi, if you want basmati rice you'll have to order it separately. Most of the Indian places I've been to in Illinois, you have to order it separately. Overall, I give it 4.5. -gobi Manchurian 4 - this one could pass off as a Chinese dish. If you didn't know it was cauliflower, it could easily pass off as chicken. -Maharaj dinner special for 2 5 - this comes with tandoori chicken, seekh kebab, fish tikka, chicken tikka, rogan josh, dal makhani, and sweet gulab juman. I believe the basmati rice and naan comes with this. The rogan josh is very good. The dal makhani is made up of lentils and kidney beans. I recommend using the naan and rice and eating it with the sauces. The gulab juman is a mildly sweet dessert if you don't eat the syrup on the bottom. -shrimp masala 5 - they put in some big chunks of shrimp which is great. The sauce is medium spicy but enjoyable. This one is my personal favorite. -lamb vindaloo 5 - the medium level does pack a bit of heat. It's still very good. Lamb cubes were very tender. -garlic naan 5 - we didn't know that naan also comes with one of the samplers. The garlic version went fast. I'm not sure what kind are the other ones but they had a nice buttery taste. -tandoori royal platter 5 - this is a good selection of different meats if you are new to Indian cuisine. It comes with tandoori chicken, malai chicken, chicken tikka, and seekh kebab. My personal favorites are tandoori chicken and seekh kebab. The meats are all well seasoned. The tandoori chicken is very tender and juicy.

The second instance was when the employee asked if we could write a review, he kind of awkwardly stood by us, waiting for us to do it. I recommend just dropping off the QR code and let us review it privately. You'll have better ratings. Unfortunately, I'll have to take off a point for those two instances. For the food we ordered half chicken with sweet potato fries, far far, and mini platter. Mini platter came with half chicken, 3 wings, and peri mogo fries. I wished they had more combo meals like Nando's like chicken wings combo, half chicken combo, etc. Besides the mini platter combo, the sides can really add up if you didn't want the mini platter. The chicken itself was juicy and tender. The sweet potato fries were just okay. The peri mogo fries were mediocre. The far far reminded me of a saltier version of shrimp chips, it's good to take home and snack on it. Portion sizes were not super small like what some people said. Portions were sufficient if you have a side with your chicken. Prices were okay but could be better if they added more affordable combo meals for the average person. I have to take a point off for the fries and lack of combo meals. Overall, it's a 3 for me.
