The star rating is based on the food ... we were in the area on busing stopped for lunch. As we entered i wasn't happy about the way the restaurant looked inside but took a chance anyways. Their lunch special were good a combination of dal and protein with rice and naan . I liked my paneer and makani and my boss had chicken and dal . The chain looked good as welll

This is located in downtown Elmhurst. You can find a parking garage nearby. You can park for free for 4 hours and it's minutes away from the restaurant. The restaurant is a good size. We ordered gobi Manchurian, mango lassi, Indian masala tea, Maharaj dinner special for 2, shrimp masala, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, and tandoori royal platter. I've been to a number of Indian places and this place is the most generous with their food portions. Most other ones are not shareable especially for a group of 4. Prices are fair and competitive with other Indian places. Service was very friendly and attentive. The drinks are pretty good. I liked that they gave you a large glass for the mango lassi. It was creamy and flavors popped out. The Indian masala tea was good, it was savory. Fyi, if you want basmati rice you'll have to order it separately. Most of the Indian places I've been to in Illinois, you have to order it separately. Overall, I give it 4.5. -gobi Manchurian 4 - this one could pass off as a Chinese dish. If you didn't know it was cauliflower, it could easily pass off as chicken. -Maharaj dinner special for 2 5 - this comes with tandoori chicken, seekh kebab, fish tikka, chicken tikka, rogan josh, dal makhani, and sweet gulab juman. I believe the basmati rice and naan comes with this. The rogan josh is very good. The dal makhani is made up of lentils and kidney beans. I recommend using the naan and rice and eating it with the sauces. The gulab juman is a mildly sweet dessert if you don't eat the syrup on the bottom. -shrimp masala 5 - they put in some big chunks of shrimp which is great. The sauce is medium spicy but enjoyable. This one is my personal favorite. -lamb vindaloo 5 - the medium level does pack a bit of heat. It's still very good. Lamb cubes were very tender. -garlic naan 5 - we didn't know that naan also comes with one of the samplers. The garlic version went fast. I'm not sure what kind are the other ones but they had a nice buttery taste. -tandoori royal platter 5 - this is a good selection of different meats if you are new to Indian cuisine. It comes with tandoori chicken, malai chicken, chicken tikka, and seekh kebab. My personal favorites are tandoori chicken and seekh kebab. The meats are all well seasoned. The tandoori chicken is very tender and juicy.

The service was great. Very attentive staff. Street parking available. Option to have carryout, dine in, and I'm not certain about delivery. Inside: very relaxing and quiet atmosphere. The ambiance is very relaxing, balanced, and calm. The food... I had taj mahal beer. It's always nice, refreshing, and crisp Kurkurt bhindi (fried okra strips) were delicious. I have had fried okra at spots before but never in strips. Very crispy and flavorful. Goat curry...I had spicy. It was a pinch too salty for me but full of flavor and delicious with vegetable fried rice. The rice had cabbage, carrots, green onion and spices... Delicious I must say and light. It was my first time here as I live near kama bistro in Lagrange which is my normal go too but this place is a new option for me.

We visited Maharaj Indian Grill on a Sunday, and even though it was quite busy, the service was still top-notch. The waiters were really attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. We started with complimentary papad and chutney, which was a nice touch, and pretty tasty. For appetizers, we went with the veggie spring rolls, which were absolutely phenomenal. For the main course, we ordered paneer makhani with garlic naan. The paneer was delicious, though the gravy leaned a little too much on the sweet side for my taste, but still pretty good overall. We wrapped up the meal with gulab jamun for dessert. It was good, though nothing particularly standout. The restaurant itself is cozy--not too big, not too small. They've got some tables for larger groups and plenty for smaller ones, so it felt well-suited for any occasion. Overall, I'd definitely come back, maybe try something different next time, but the food and service were both solid!

Tried this place for lunch and it was very tasty. Give this place a try. I will be back soon

Chicken Tikka Masala

Very solid for the most part. I had the chicken tikka masala lunch special. The chicken itself was just okay (slightly on the dry side). But everything else was great. Delicious naan and sauce. Good enough to come back but not my favorite Indian restaurant (though I'm no expert on the cuisine) so take my review with a grain of salt.

We enjoyed a very tasty takeaway dinner from Maharaj the other night. Our order was ready and hot when we arrived. I appreciated their generous portions of rice and the naan was exceptional. We shared the tiki chicken and the butter chicken, both mild to accommodate my 4 yo. I'd definitely go back- in fact, my MIL is planning to take her daughter and granddaughter there for lunch next weekend since she enjoyed our meal so much!

You have to come here! The moment my partner and I walked in around 5 PM on a Sunday, we were greeted and quickly seated at a booth. The interior is perfect for a solo dinner, date, or big family gathering. The staff and owner are super attentive and made the experience very enjoyable. The best part was their food. We got the Lamb Vindaloo and Butter Chicken (basic, I know, but we'll be coming back to try more items). Everything was perfectly seasoned--I can't recommend it enough. They also brought out a free piece of seed cracker that I've never tried before and a couple of sauces similar to what you would get with a samosa. Overall, a great experience with friendly staff and delicious food. I am going to try to go during their lunch special next time. The total for our dinner with tip was around $50.

Ask the Community - Maharaj Indian Grill

Is the restaurant child-friendly?

We visited with our 4 year old and it was fine. We ordered everything mild and he really enjoyed it- especially the butter chicken!

Do meals come with rice?

RICE you have to order separate. Maharaj Dinner special combo and Maharaj mix grill combo comes with rice and nan.

We missed the lunch specials which go from 11am - 2:30pm. This is located @ 3400 River Road in Franklin Park just 2.8 miles south of The Fashion Outlet Mall on the west side of River Road. Don't blink or you'll drive right by it. Trust me when I say you won't want to do this. When we arrived we were the only people there. We were greeted by Kennedy our server. He recommended an item from the Chefs Recommendation a Maharaj Mix Grill that came w/an assortment of meats like Tandori Chicken (excellent), Seekh Kabob (ground lamb sausage (excellent), Malala Kabob (chicken seasoned w/yogurt, cream cheese, garlic, cardamom & nutmeg, Dal & Butter Chicken. This also came w/lentil beans, grilled naan bread (charred) excellent. This all came on a small iron skillet w/grilled onions sizzling on the iron skillet.. We also ordered a dish of mild butter chicken that for me should have been spicer but that's the way my wife wanted it). There was a tiny condiment w/a spicy green sauce which helped w/the mild butter chicken & a milder red sauce. The Chefs Recommendation of Maharaj Mix Grill was $28. This was an awesome choice as it came w/a great assortment of different meats, grilled onion, grilled naan bread, lentil beans, a portion of butter chicken & basmati white rice. The stand alone butter chicken for me was lacking some spice & had too much sauce & not enough chicken. For dessert they brought us hot sweet ball w/a syrupy sauce that was tasty. I throughly enjoyed this meal as the flavors, seasoning & spices were very good. Kennedy was our server for the bulk of our meal but he must have left @ 4pm (shift change) because we had a different server. Either way the food & service was excellent. I know this is a place I will rerun to.

This is a cre that doesn't seem to like anything , but I'll declare victory in that they like it! Mission accomplished! One thing is the place was pretty empty so that's a bit disconcerting when that happens. Later one 2 other tables were seated. On to the food, the dry gobi Manchurian was pretty good. The others through the chicken they had too spicy, it they ordered it spicy, so. The for the mains, the paneer makhani was pretty good. They out too few paneer pieces I'd say. Dal makhani was also good. I think the naan were kind of mid. Didn't taste like they had a tandoor. It was kind of dense instead of soft/chewy. Well, it's a good place. I'll have to try out their downtown location. Hopefully more lively.

We pulled up in the parking lot and weren't sure if they were open, as it looked empty but they were. There was just only one table occupied on a Saturday night which is usually not a good sign...we decided to give it a try anyway and were glad we did! The food was delicious. We started with the vegetable samosas which were fresh tasting with a nice balance of flavors and lots of vegetables in the filling. I went basic for my entree and had the palak paneer and it was absolutely wonderful. It was nicely spiced with fresh ginger and had a decent amount of heat. I like spicy food, and this was a pleasant level of heat for me. The paneer was flavorful and fresh. I ordered rice to go with it and it was fluffy and perfectly cooked. The garlic naan was hot, fresh and nicely seasoned. Sadly, only one other table filled before we left. The people working there seemed like the owners and asked us to tell others to come as business had not been good. So here's me, telling others to come! The first thing I noticed was that there weren't many Indians eating there so I can't justify the authenticity. I like that they have a vast menu but let's be honest, almost every non Indian couple that came in that night most likely got either butter chicken or chicken tikka masala. The "safe" dishes that are very familiar to every American's taste. It's basically the orange chicken or cheeseburger of Indian cuisine. We are not Indian but I don't like getting the "safe" dishes. We ordered strawberry lassi, masala dosa, onion kulcha, chicken mugali, king fish fry, and payasam. I also want to add that you must order biryani rice separately because it does not come automatically like most Indian places. The service started out good when it was just us and another table. Then, it became atrocious when a third table came. Our waitress basically deserted us to talk to them for long periods of time. I wanted to order a dessert sooner. Then it took awhile to get some boxes and the check. For the service I'll have to subtract some stars. Parking is ample. Prices were fair. The food portions were huge. However, I'm not sure I'll return due to the service and the dried fish fry. Overall 3.5. -strawberry lassi 3 - not bad. I didn't really taste much of strawberry. Not as distinct as the mango lassi. -masala dosa 5 - most popular kind of dosa. Not spicy. It's crispy and has a potato filling. It came with tomato and coconut chutney -onion kulcha 5 - thicker and more filling than naan. They are stuffed with savory onions and fluffy inside. They have onions along with other stuff. -chicken mugali 5 - chicken was tender to cut and eat. The sauce is thicker and mildly spicy. I liked it. -king fish fry 1.5 - the seasoning is not bad. It was supposed to be crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside like what Chat GPT said. The result was it was kind of tough to cut and very dry inside. It kind of tasted like dried up fish sticks. -payasam 5 - classic South Indian dessert. It has some vermicelli and is not sweet at all. I think there are some nuts in here. It comes hot.

We ended taking the food back to hotel where we enjoyed at a table in the lobby. For starters, we scooped up a few varieties of naan, including garlic and chilli. For meals we went biryani and curry respectively. I went with the chicken biryani and my peer the lamb curry. The naan was phenomenal and the mains were delightful as well.
