I do not even know where to begin. The service was fabulous and was very attentive to or needs. The food from the very first bite was just mouth melting. As an appetizer we order the crab flan with shrimp sauce. Our 12 year old granddaughter ate the entire thing aside from a few bites she gave us. The rest of the meal was equally good. Pleasantly surprised! From the espresso martini to the lobster cannelloni and au gratin, broccoli side dish, everything was spectacular. My husband had the scallop ravioli, which was also delicious. This place is the real deal, 30 minutes from Pilot Knob. Great drinks, great food. We had a caesar salad, crab stuffed shrimp and the hanger steak. High level cooking, thoughtful service. The chef came out and explained her sequence for making such a tender steak. I think we had a carrot cake for dessert but it's hard to tell from my photo so I didn't post it. Fantastic! The place is a gem. The food is prepared by an actual chef whose creations are unique and delicious. This is not your regular run of the mill place that gets the usual pre-packaged frozen foods and reheats them with a bunch of preservatives. The wife is sensitive to many processed cooking oils and preservatives that don't settle well when we go out. However, this place doesn't have that effect. I'm pretty sure they use a lot of natural ingredients. It's definitely our new go to place! read more

Serve better food! Go through recipes and find good recipes on the internet . Don't make up recipes, use ones that have proven to be good. Buy quality products. U r charging high prices use it to get quality foods. The service was very good. Very clean restaurant. But this was suppose to be a special meal and the grouper was tough, chewy and fishy tasting. I have eaten grouper many times and it is a light and delicate fish. I really don't think it was grouper. The relish on the fish wasn't good. I was truly disappointed , especially after spending $96 on our two meals. I would go back just to give them another try. The grouper is one thing I wouldn't order. The Depot Cafe is an absolute treasure. One of our favorite places to dine. We probably have dined there at least a couple of times a month going on several years now. They take such care to make sure their ingredients are the freshest possible and then carefully prepared to make everything they serve 5 stars. From the pressed dip sandwich to the perfect ribeye steak, it's always a delight to dine there. The service is top-notch as well. If you find yourself hungry on Highway 67, it's worth the trip down the hill to check out The Depot Cafe. GPS routing ended about 2 blocks from the actual cafe: just look for the historic, brick train depot. We found the waitstaff to be eager and pleasant - we were never left wanting. Menu may deviate from what's reflected in Yelp but was still steaks, seafood, and American, as advertised. While empty at 5 PM the next hour saw the restaurant approach capacity with regulars. The starter salad was fresh and tasty. Entrees were cooked to our liking and delivered timely. The Hungarian mushroom soup was thinner than others I've had, but packed with mushrooms and other veggies. Desserts are all House-made: the carrot cake came recommended and, though a sheet cake, was appropriately dense with fruit, veggies, and nuts and topped with a tasty cream cheese frosting. You need to go to this place if you are in the area! I was on a day trip from St. Louis, had read the reviews for The Depot Cafe and had intended to get a burger based on what I'd read. But when my server, who I think was also an owner (?) mentioned that their Harvest Salad had smoked pork belly on it, I had to get that! I am glad I did, as it was maybe the best salad I've ever eaten. A bed of nice mixed greens was ringed with slices of d'Anjou pear laid out in a spoke pattern with a small mound of feta cheese in the middle of that. Sprinkled on top were good chunks of smoked pork belly, in-house candied walnuts, and dried cranberries. It was served with a butternut dressing, which I am guessing was buttermilk based and had the spice of maybe chipotle peppers in it. The proportions of all the little salad goodies were just perfect in relation to the lettuce, and it was overall a fantastic and delicious salad. Next time I am in that area, I definitely will be back. Many of the other menu items looked well worth eating, and there was also a list of homemade desserts on the board, which I am sad I did not get to try. The moment we drove up we were taken aback by the kewl exterior... an old train depot. When we walked in we were struck by the adorable decor and MORE impactful... the staff. Greg and his team were AMAZING at their perfect balance of attentiveness and sociability. The food was incredible! Sirloin was cooked perfectly and the flavor was spectacular. The Pullman potatoes are delicious and the Cajun stuffed mushrooms were outstanding. We got the desert to go, and the test bite before leaving certainly did not disappoint.
