We absolutely love this place, and now even more with their Sunday brunch menu. Such a fantastic place for quality food, good prices, and relaxing atmosphere.

Quaint eatery set in a 100 year old railway station. Nightly specials made with the freshest ingredients. I thought dinner was good, but the desserts blew me out of the water! Peanut butter pie with chocolate ganache. Well worth the trip.

You need to go to this place if you are in the area! I was on a day trip from St. Louis, had read the reviews for The Depot Cafe and had intended to get a burger based on what I'd read. But when my server, who I think was also an owner (?) mentioned that their Harvest Salad had smoked pork belly on it, I had to get that! I am glad I did, as it was maybe the best salad I've ever eaten. A bed of nice mixed greens was ringed with slices of d'Anjou pear laid out in a spoke pattern with a small mound of feta cheese in the middle of that. Sprinkled on top were good chunks of smoked pork belly, in-house candied walnuts, and dried cranberries. It was served with a butternut dressing, which I am guessing was buttermilk based and had the spice of maybe chipotle peppers in it. The proportions of all the little salad goodies were just perfect in relation to the lettuce, and it was overall a fantastic and delicious salad. Next time I am in that area, I definitely will be back. Many of the other menu items looked well worth eating, and there was also a list of homemade desserts on the board, which I am sad I did not get to try. Check this place out, you'll be glad you did!

    Amazing homemade desserts!!

SERVICE: We were greeted right as we entered by Bev who made us feel like we'd known each other our whole lives. She walked us through the menu, gave us suggestions, brought us ice cold beers within 90 seconds of ordering & was just an absolute gem of a hospitality professional. She had great table side banter & once we hit the food coma she got us our check quickly so we could go back to the park & pass out. THE FOOD: We ordered way too much & Bev warned us but we ate Wally B's leftovers cold for 2 days & if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know...everything from the alligator to the St Louis style ribs were DELICIOUS. The ambiance was better before the renovation & I heard that Bev passed away. We'll be back but "Wally B's" before the facelift will always be our favorite culinary memory of Missouri.

We have had him in the past many times since we are pretty frequent visitors. Not sure what was going on with him but his service wasn't good at all! Never asked one time if we needed another drink or anything. We asked other waitresses for a box and to pay out. Basically, I think he was more interested in visiting and talking than his job. Food was good as always! With spending over a $100 for two his tip wasn't the best!

When you walk in, there is a waiting area in conjunction with having a drive-thru. The typical wait time is supposed to be 30 minutes, but I only had to wait for 4 minutes which was nice. The hostess took me to my table. As im approaching my table the floor felt greasy and there was crumbs and napkins I saw on the ground at various spots. I was greeted by a server and she introduced herself. Her name was Jaycee. I really appreciate her hospitality. She gave us some pickles which was so sweet and delicious. When ordering food, my spouse ordered the Catfish meal w/cucumber salad and okra. I ordered the Crabcakes with Coleslaw and Mac n cheese. My spouse loved the Catfish and the sides. I did try a piece of the Catfish and it was good for me too. When it came to my food, I thought it can be room for improvement. The Crabcakes were fried. They were a bit overcooked but, I still ate it with cocktail sauce. The coleslaw was advertised as "creamy", but instead it was watery. I did not finish this side item. The Mac n cheese noodles were a bit overcooked but the taste was there. I could not finish eating this side item either. I did purchase the Carrot Cake and I ATE EVERY LAST CRUMB.

The dinning room wasn't very full but when they seated us they took us to what used to be a patio. Now it's enclosed and there is a bar a stage and plenty of seating. My problem was the fans that were blowing made it difficult to have a conversation with my wife across the table. I told the server it was almost too noisy and was having a hard time hearing him talk. He said he'd talk louder. That didn't really fix the problem. Not real sure why we were seated in this area because the dinning room had plenty of space. We had a little trouble communicating our order because of the noise. As I stated a couple times to our server. I communicated I have trouble hearing in areas like this and he just kept talking louder. Anyway we finally got our food ordered and went for a salad in the next room. My wife even commented on the empty tables and asked my why I thought they put us in that big room. Idk? So we get our salad and it was good. Kretzers had a decent salad bar. One of the reasons we like the place. I ordered a 12oz ribeye rare with a baked potato. Wife got chicken strips with gravy and mashed potatoes and gravy. When the food arrived everything looked good and the server said some things that I have no idea what. Even the wife didn't know. I go to open the butter for my pita and it's not butter. It's an oil whip. I do not eat fake butter. It's harmful. To find out they have no butter in the place. So I tell my server of the situation and looks at me like he has no idea what to do. Turns and walks away. So I eat my steak and stare at the baked potato. I am a recent cancer survivor and have no ability to make saliva. So I needed the butter to make the potato edible. Or even gravy or something. I told the server but I don't think he heard me correctly or didn't know what to do. It was so loud with the stupid fans. So while I do recommend Kretzers and like their steaks and crab legs and salad bar. I don't recommend their new addition to dine in. And if you want real butter bring your own. I was a little disappointed with our experience this time around.
