Everything was fantastic. We had breakfast on a Saturday. The place was packed but we still got fantastic service and our food fairly quickly. My husband got the breakfast burrito which he demolished and I got the Philly omelette which was packed full of meat and cheese. We split the cinnamon roll waffle which has a cream cheese icing to die for. It's the best waffle we've ever had. I watched many fantastic looking goodies getting delivered to other tables. We will definitely return to try some of the other mouth watering options. Staff was attentive and super sweet. Glasses stayed full and we left stuff. The abbey is a beautiful building. Historical photos line the walls. It is definitely a worthy day trip. Don't forget to grab some baked goods to go. They have bread a pastries. We loved this place! The fried catfish was great! Get the real catfish, not the swai. They served gravy with the mashed potatoes - how real is that! Cocktails were strange but adequate. When the previous owners ran Thee Abbey, the food was sublime .. fresh everything! Roast beef was a beef roast, not sliced deli meat. New owners, nowhere near that level of excellence. I wanted a steak, perused the menu, saw something that said "Saintsbury Steak", "real Missouri beef", etc. $18, sounded like a steak to me. Turns out it was a tiny little SALSBURY steak!! On a bed of fake mashed potatoes. When I contacted the owner, told him I was misled by the description on the menu, was very disappointed in an $18 HAMBURGER on fake potatoes, he simply said he was sorry I felt that way, so sad. He said that was one of his best sellers. All I can say is his clientele must not have much to choose from. I'll NEVER go back there again. I've been there a few times and always enjoyed it. The people were great and the food was good. That was when the previous owners were there. The last time I was there was May this year. It was ok but not near as good as before. I was in the mood for a steak. They had an item on the menu, I forget the name of it but it had steak in the name so along with the price, I thought that I was getting steak. We all ordered it and thought the same thing. I've been here for a wedding and once for dinner during someone else's ownership. Now other people own Thee Abbey. And I liked the food less. The fried pickle bites were fine. I don't recall what I had before, but I think I liked it a bit better. The food wasn't stellar then either, though. Service was fine. You go to Thee Abbey for the vibe. You can check out the grounds of an old school/church. In past years, you could explore upper floors and check out antiques for sale there, but those items are now downstairs. I read or heard that they're working on a museum. That will be nice to see. I go to this area every few years or so and I expect I'll be back. read more

We went to Thee Abbey Kitchen to meet up with family. There is a sign to seat yourself so we found a table. They were pretty busy on a Friday evening but everyone was attentive. Everything was very good, but our favorites were the tots, French dip and the endless soup and salad bar. Soup could have been a little warmer but still good. Needed a place to eat lunch after a morning hike with our baby. Food took a bit to come out but everyone was very nice. My chicken and dumplings was nice and chunky. Bread bowl was really tiny but they did offer me a refill on the soup-needed more salt and flavor but the table salt and pepper shakers were a good add. The Monte cristo sandwich was all soggy which was sad. Fries were good. Ordered a kids Mac and cheese but it looked like the Kraft brand they gave us. Good place to go overall. This is the original Ursuline Academy girls high school that is now in St Louis. These buildings are a treasure. Great stop to make. What keeps bringing me back, aside from family, are those massive cinnamon rolls which can be purchased from the Porter's Candy Shop on the other side of the hall even if you aren't staying for lunch or dinner. One of those cinnamon rolls is like four cinnamon rolls everywhere else! That being said, the sit down menu is basic home cooking served in a dining room large enough to accommodate a family reunion, special occasion, reception, birthday party, or other special event for gathering. A most amazing French dip sandwich from Thee Abbey Kitchen in Arcadia, MO. "Real" roast beef, amazing house-made bread and very melty provolone cheese. I could not have asked for a better sandwich! Oh, and the dip was real "au jus" from when they cooked their beef, and there were bits of the meat at the bottom of the cup! This place is truly amazing - not only do they bake all their breads and other goodies, like cinnamon rolls, they also grind their own wheat to use in these items! Even though it was 4 PM, I asked to get an order of bacon. Their bacon is some of the best I've ever had, thick, meaty, smoky, always perfectly cooked, and I just can't pass it up! Oh, and, I had to get a sweet treat afterwards! I didn't want a giant cinnamon roll (or ice cream,m - they have a little ice cream/goodie shop attached to the restaurant!), so I got one of their chocolate chunk-caramel cookies and it was the bomb - a little crunch on the outside, a little chew on the inside and lots of fantastic flavor. Whenever I am in the area (I took a daytrip to Southeast Missouri to explore all around the Saint Francis Mountains yesterday), I make it a point to stop at the Arcadia Academy and Thee Abbey kitchen! I have been here several times, and the food has always been excellent, the service is wonderful, and the building is just a cool, old, historic place. SO many good things here! First time we stopped in, we got a small waffle cone with mocha ice cream... TO DIE FOR! Came back for a tour of the place (pretty darn good!), and had lunch afterwards. The son of the owners suggested the French Dip Sandwich and the waitress suggested Steak Fries. Such a perfect meal! Interesting place with a vast historical presence. The Abbey Kitchen has their own ice cream shop and restaurant inside what used to be an academy. After a long hike in the Ozarks, I ordered some chicken tenders and fries (LOL), which was decent. The extra star is for the extremely large and delicious cinnamon rolls that were the size of a person's head for ~$5. We ordered both the Cream Cheese Frosting and Caramel Pecan Topping. The restaurant is part of a bed and breakfast that was an old private high school, civil war hospital, and catholic school for nuns. Very cool! We stopped in with a large party of 30. The staff were friendly and the food was really, really good. Surprisingly good. Good enough for me to write this review when it's not something I usually do. It's off the beaten path but if you're in the area I would definitely recommend stopping by. They have an ice cream shop and make their own bread and cinnamon roles which were amazing. The food was cold. The bartender had a mouth on her. The mouth that should not be used around kids. The price was way too high. Plus it was extra for drinks. The web said that drinks were included.
