Our host who was also our server brought menus and welcomed us. She took our drink orders, returning momentarily with our beverages. We started with a couple of their appetizers, first the Vegetable Springrolls, they were very good three to and order. Well prepared and fried golden brown. Next we tried their Crab Rangoon it was also very good, quick fried puff pastry filled with a cream cheese and crab mixture that was cooked golden brown and served piping hot. A nice menu, with a variety of offerings to suit most any tastes. After going over the menu a few times, I landed on their Ruby Roll for my sushi, a nice roll of Spicy tuna with roe and sliced jalepeno on top. The roll was well made with just a little heat to it. Flavorful and a nice mixture. Next I wanted some sashimi so I opted for their fresh Tuna and some Yellowtail. Two pieces each, fresh and nicely sliced. Served with wasabi and ginger sides. They were both very good, the tuna was exceptionally fresh and delicious. The food on the other hand was a bit disappointing. This was my first time here so I ordered several things to try... -Pig tails with cheese. These pre-frozen uniquely cut (sidewinder) fries were good, but had little to no salt on them. The cheese was okay, but quickly cooled and hardened, most likely a Velveeta type product. Not terrible but just not that great. I would have preferred them sans cheese and with a generous amount of salt and pepper. -Burger w/cheese. This looked phenomenal, but was underwhelming on flavor. I can't complain about the size though as it was huge! but again, it was just far too bland, and the bun was actually stale in certain places. Next time ill have to get some sauce on it. -BBQ Pork sandwich. This was not at all what I was expecting! I was thinking I was getting sliced or shredded pork mixed with BBQ sauce and served on a bun, but instead this was razor thin sliced pork (although it honestly looked and tasted like turkey) dry as can be, no sauce and stuck between smashed flat top toasted toast. Based on other reviews and their pics I should have ordered the brown with bark or a minced bbq sandwich. -Fried mushrooms. These were the best thing by far on this visit. Sad, because I'm sure they are just some pre-frozen generic supply house ones, but they were honestly great and served with a flavorful (yet extremely runny/watery) ranch. Bottom line... I'm sure the locals and people who grew up with this place love it for nostalgia etc, but unfortunately I've had far better. I will definitely give them another shot however next time in town since the menu is vast and has a lot of other things that sound good, plus it appears I ordered my bbq sandwich wrong. Most of the time, it's good but every now and then, we've gotten burgers that oddly taste like tap water or even soap. Also, fair warning: if the weather suddenly turns dangerous (like hail or a tornado) after you've already placed an order and are waiting outside, don't expect to be let in. Even in a weather emergency, they won't allow shelter. (Our weather report was not accurate otherwise we wouldn't have even left our house.)
