The lady who owns and operates the kitchen is a complete and angry lunatic. Somehow I annoyed her and she started to bark at me. She said something and "it's a black thing." She was African American. Who the hell knows? I certainly did not order chow. The bartender was apologetic and she provided fantastic service. She was very professional and aware of her bar. Serving everyone accordingly. Locals and newbies. The locals were not territorial, and they were really cool, as are most people in Salem. I love the town. However, my buddy was there the night before, and said the food was good. The thin guy with black hair and a black beard either has a bad memory when it comes to faces or makes stuff up in order to refuse service to customers and tell them that they're been 86'd from the bar, He refuses to go into any detail about what happened or when it happened and just tells our group to leave. Like over two years ago there was one incident that we were forgiven for and talked about. Went there a few months ago and everything was fine. Went in last week and some rude coke out lesbian with a wearing a fidora was nothing but disrespectful. She kept stepping into a side room near the back door patio to do her drugs, then would come back and proceed to be rude. I waited inline 30 minutes for a drink only for her to pull her phone out, fill a pitcher and tell me to be patient as she was busy. Nobody was at the bar top at this point, she was just hooking her friends up out back. Over all decent space, just lacks better management. Honestly a great location just poor staff. read more

This is a long overdue review. I have been coming to this bar for over a year since the name/owner change. It is a nice bar with warm decor, comfy furniture, and a full kitchen. The drinks are poured well by friendly bartenders for the most part. The food is more then just deep fried, with daily specials. Now my favorite part. They host 2 Golden Tee Machines at a deduced price. 1 pin ball machine, and the standard lottery machines. The 5 stars are for what this bar is trying to be. A safe place to play some games, or talk with some friends, have a bite to eat, or have a stiff drink. If you're looking for clubbing this isn't the right spot, but stop in before or after you shouldn't be disappointed. read more

The dehn bar is by far my favorite dive bar in Salem. The staff here is extremely friendly, non-judgmental, and pretty quick to serve. Their tap list is pretty small, but a decent selection. I always get Pabst or Lagunitas (if I'm feeling fancy) They have a pretty cool fire pit/ outdoor seating too! Its great during the summer, not so much during the winter. Ok I like this joint... The front of the place seems like a total waste of space and honestly does anyone actually work up there? Been there 3 times now and 2 of the times was great. While we sat there for about 20 minutes the bartender just joked with his friends. he finally came over and asked what we wanted. 5 minutes later he came back and said he was out of that certain liquor. Just checked this place out for the first time. We will probably be back- I'm interested to see what it's like when it's busier (we were there at 7:30 on a Thursday). Basic dive bar, pretty basic tap list, good prices. I liked the couches and comfortable seating, and the bartender was welcoming and nice. My well drink was strong. I haven't tried my true dive bar test yet- ordering a martini and seeing if they look at me funny. Next time, if I can get a decent martini without judgement, I'll probably be sold. If it was walking distance from my house, it would probably become a frequent stop. Not really a destination, though. If you had a group of people and you were trying to find a place to hang out, where you could fit, the front room of this place would be a good option. read more
