I always love their leotard and clothing selection and you can count on them for a variety of items such as tights and canvas shoes always being available. Walked in and was overwhelmed. The selection was grand. So many things to look at best to have an idea of what you need before coming in.. especially when you're approached by someone who only wants to help you so you're not "wandering win this store" By asking someone what're you looking for as opposed to can I help you find anything - just sets the tone. I clearly feel out of place but those words made it sink it. I truly didn't want to support this establishment after that - a rushed situational encounter- when I'm watching the no POC customers get waited on and explained and interacted with in a positive manner. Anyway I went there not for myself , but for my younger cousin. The old lady's in there quickly found what we needed (yes I knew what I needed to get as I did research days before) we tried it on waited for the slow cashiers who again, took there time with the non POC PAYING customers- and then proceeded to rush me to pay and not tell me the price .. $58 for Jazz shoes and horribly uncomfortable service. I know very little about ballet, but it's become my 9-year-old child's passion in a relatively short amount of time to the point where she dances six days a week, was accepted into six summer intensives this year, and recently placed in the Top 24 at YAGP LA. That said, as a serious student, she's needed many accessories to aid in her instruction, from shoes (and she's not even on pointe yet) and leotards, to skirts, hair accessories, and warm-up clothes/booties. But when you're unfamiliar with ballet, it can be daunting to make decisions on what your child might need, which is why I am especially grateful for Dance Store. Coming to this cozy shop, brimming with warmth and an immense selection, always makes my daughter and I feel welcome and taken care of. Not only does the owner, Jenny, and her team leader, Lisa, know us by name, but they know which studio my daughter is with, and they go above and beyond every time we are there. Both women and their staff are extremely knowledgeable and patient with questions and concerns. We also love that you can start an account that will track past orders so you don't have to remember your child's sizes. And, they have cultivated relationships with many of the local studios so that students can get a small discount, making you feel like you're part of a larger community. They offer well-known brands, smaller brands, and even local artisans, and we have found their prices to be on par with anything you'll find online. I'm actually astounded by how much stock they have because the shop isn't especially large, but their racks are filled and their drawers are overflowing. If you get a peep in the stock room, all of the shoe boxes stacked beautifully remind me of the wand boxes at Harry Potter's Ollivander's. And if by very slim chance they don't have something, they're more than happy to order it for you. While my daughter's dance studio is her home away from home, the Dance Store is her next favorite place. read more

My daughter is a professional ballerina trained by ABT and Ballet West. She's been professional now for years although she looks like she's in middle school lol. We are VERY knowledgeable of pointe shoes. Repeat, VERY knowledgeable. We know a defective shoe when we see one. We go to various dance store. The Dance Store is one of them. We never had a problem, but I must say, my daughter is African American and good customer service is that you should remember her, but every time they think she's a student until we remind them. Today we purchased a Block European Balance pointe shoes. We LITERALLY walked out the door, got in the car, and soon as I got to the first stop light, my daughter told me the shoes was defective. She was trying to break in the shank with her hands and the inside sole tore away from the shank making a popping sound. So I went around the block so we can exchange it. Well they didn't want to exchange it! The employees thought my daughter over worked the shoe! Excuse me? My daughter has knows what she's doing. It baffles me how they think we're ignorant like she's a student. Sometimes I think people need to LISTEN. Not all pointe shoes are perfect. There is such a thing as a DEFECTIVE pointe shoe..... The only thing this lady was concerned about was her bottom dollar. She said that she couldn't resale it now... Why would you, IT'S DEFECTIVE! That was the pointe of trying to exchange it. Anyways, they had another lady glue it and hopefully that works. Well see and I will post an update. I have been going to this store for ages for my daughters. In more recent years, I have been going for pointe shoes as well. Don't bother going anywhere else- tights, leos, ALL THE SHOES, and the absolute best staff of any dance store I've ever visited (and I've been to a lot!)- it's all right here. Whenever I deviate, I always end up right back here. Lisa is our favorite employee- just now, my daughter needed a last minute dance item for a performance. My daughter was just promoted to pointe and our instructor told us to visit The Dance Store for our first pair of pointe shoes. It was such a special occasion that we shared with 2 of her teammates as well as one of our instructors. It was clear right from the start how knowledgeable the staff was and we had a wonderful experience. We tried on several pair to make sure we got the fit just right. She even took the time to teach the girls the anatomy of the shoes, how to do the sewing (although that is a service they offer there), how to keep them clean, how long it would be before potentially needing a new pair, etc. We left with some very happy young ladies. The staff is super knowledgeable and ensure that my children get the right equipment. Also since this is the place my kids have been coming to to get mainly their dance shoes...The Dance Store also keeps a written record of a dancers growth, style and measurements for the perfect fit. Finally theres this... On my last visit here with the kiddo's I struck up a conversation with another Dance Dad who was getting his daughters measured for the right pair of shoes. Well folks, I considered going back but looked at the recent reviews and it appears the customer service is the same- very poor or hit or miss at best. There are other dance stores in the area, and as this store fears but does nothing to make up for with customer service, plenty online. I would recommend going online or any other store. There's plenty you can find on google or yelp. This is not the only place to get dance items. Save yourself the lack of respect, courtesy, or consideration by the people running the store. It seems like a trending issue from the recent reviews and my experience. It's sad that the customer service was so bad that this still leaves a mark in my memory. I truly hope the staff isn't like this to everyone and that they start to treat all customers better than this. If one day they do, perhaps I will give them a second chance but this is one experience I still remember as one of the worst customer service experiences in a store, especially a small one like this where customer service is paramount. read more

This is like the ballet shops of my childhood, which, I've recently noticed, are a dying breed. The staff is expert, they track down special orders for you, and seem to have, and deservedly so, a very loyal customer base. An avid daily swimmer, I'd had a sudden inspiration to purchase a high-quality knit dance warm-up unitard not for dancing in this case for rather for use in colder weather, post-swim. This store carries many fine brands including Wear-moi, a wonderful company whose flagship is based in Chicago and whose owner is equally terrific regarding customer service.
