Probably the best store to try out the pointe shoes if you are a ballet dancer in L.A.. I always love their leotard and clothing selection and you can count on them for a variety of items such as tights and canvas shoes always being available. I am not a big fan of the fitter who talks a lot who is a bit obnoxious as she pushes the shoes that we did not want. Other than her, we love everything about the store. read more

Great service! The staff helped find the perfect shoes that fit just right and got a discount with my ballet academy. Highly recommend!

As an adult ballet student, I was incredibly nervous walking into my first pointe shoe fitting in nearly a decade. Despite it being a busy Saturday, I was helped within minutes of arriving for my appointment. Jenny made the entire experience feel welcoming and professional--her kindness and expertise immediately put me at ease. When I wore the shoes to class, my teacher actually asked where I got fitted, saying they were "the best fit I've seen on a dancer in a long time." I can't recommend The Dance Store enough. Whether you're getting fitted or shopping for any of your dance needs, don't go anywhere else! read more

Dance Store - perfectly fit pointe shoes! - Dance Wear Near Me - Los Angeles, California

My daughter was fitted for her first pair of pointe shoes here and the experience was absolutely fabulous!!! The attention to received to ensure the right fit was awesome. It took more than 8 pairs before the fit was right. But service was great from the first pair through the 8th pair. I was very impressed with the level of service. They also had very cute leos and other dance clothes. I highly recommend going here for pointe shoe fittings. read more

Walked in and was overwhelmed. The selection was grand. So many things to look at best to have an idea of what you need before coming in.. especially when you're approached by someone who only wants to help you so you're not "wandering win this store" By asking someone what're you looking for as opposed to can I help you find anything - just sets the tone. I clearly feel out of place but those words made it sink it. I truly didn't want to support this establishment after that - a rushed situational encounter- when I'm watching the no POC customers get waited on and explained and interacted with in a positive manner. Anyway I went there not for myself , but for my younger cousin. The old lady's in there quickly found what we needed (yes I knew what I needed to get as I did research days before) we tried it on waited for the slow cashiers who again, took there time with the non POC PAYING customers- and then proceeded to rush me to pay and not tell me the price .. $58 for Jazz shoes and horribly uncomfortable service. I won't return. It was out of my way and misleading from the website - where things are in there place and not cluttered or stuffed. read more

They were busy but very helpful and attentive even if I didn't have an appointment. Great selection which I can't find at my local shop too

I know very little about ballet, but it's become my 9-year-old child's passion in a relatively short amount of time to the point where she dances six days a week, was accepted into six summer intensives this year, and recently placed in the Top 24 at YAGP LA. That said, as a serious student, she's needed many accessories to aid in her instruction, from shoes (and she's not even on pointe yet) and leotards, to skirts, hair accessories, and warm-up clothes/booties. But when you're unfamiliar with ballet, it can be daunting to make decisions on what your child might need, which is why I am especially grateful for Dance Store. Coming to this cozy shop, brimming with warmth and an immense selection, always makes my daughter and I feel welcome and taken care of. Not only does the owner, Jenny, and her team leader, Lisa, know us by name, but they know which studio my daughter is with, and they go above and beyond every time we are there. Both women and their staff are extremely knowledgeable and patient with questions and concerns. We also love that you can start an account that will track past orders so you don't have to remember your child's sizes. And, they have cultivated relationships with many of the local studios so that students can get a small discount, making you feel like you're part of a larger community. They offer well-known brands, smaller brands, and even local artisans, and we have found their prices to be on par with anything you'll find online. I'm actually astounded by how much stock they have because the shop isn't especially large, but their racks are filled and their drawers are overflowing. If you get a peep in the stock room, all of the shoe boxes stacked beautifully remind me of the wand boxes at Harry Potter's Ollivander's. And if by very slim chance they don't have something, they're more than happy to order it for you. While my daughter's dance studio is her home away from home, the Dance Store is her next favorite place. read more

My daughter is a professional ballerina trained by ABT and Ballet West. She's been professional now for years although she looks like she's in middle school lol. We are VERY knowledgeable of pointe shoes. Repeat, VERY knowledgeable. We know a defective shoe when we see one. We go to various dance store. The Dance Store is one of them. We never had a problem, but I must say, my daughter is African American and good customer service is that you should remember her, but every time they think she's a student until we remind them. Today we purchased a Block European Balance pointe shoes. We LITERALLY walked out the door, got in the car, and soon as I got to the first stop light, my daughter told me the shoes was defective. She was trying to break in the shank with her hands and the inside sole tore away from the shank making a popping sound. So I went around the block so we can exchange it. Well they didn't want to exchange it! The employees thought my daughter over worked the shoe! Excuse me? My daughter has knows what she's doing. It baffles me how they think we're ignorant like she's a student. Sometimes I think people need to LISTEN. Not all pointe shoes are perfect. There is such a thing as a DEFECTIVE pointe shoe..... The only thing this lady was concerned about was her bottom dollar. She said that she couldn't resale it now... Why would you, IT'S DEFECTIVE! That was the pointe of trying to exchange it. Anyways, they had another lady glue it and hopefully that works. Well see and I will post an update. It's funny because I feel as long as we don't complain they are okay, but if there's a problem with the merchandise of pointe shoes it's our fault..... TBC read more

This review is to highlight Lisa because she is professional and knowledgeable with pointe shoe fitting. The store didn't have her style/size on our last visit so Lisa was creative and patient in trying to find an alternative style though ended up ordering the desired one upon my daughter's request. We've been going here for a few months now. The staff is great. read more

I needed a leotard and tights for my niece at the last minute. The ladies in this store are so nice and they have absolutely everything you need! So many different choices when I walked in the door, I just walked to the counter and told them what I needed, they were very helpful. They made sure I had the right sizes and had me on my way in less than 10 minutes . Excellent service! Such a cute boutique too! read more

Absolutely love visiting The Dance Store! As a parent, I appreciate how they listen to the dancer and work with them, but also inform parents who may not be familiar. Customer service is unmatched! read more

I have been going to this store for ages for my daughters. In more recent years, I have been going for pointe shoes as well. Don't bother going anywhere else- tights, leos, ALL THE SHOES, and the absolute best staff of any dance store I've ever visited (and I've been to a lot!)- it's all right here. Whenever I deviate, I always end up right back here. Lisa is our favorite employee- just now, my daughter needed a last minute dance item for a performance. I immediately called the DANCE STORE, got Lisa on the line, and she immediately helped me with a very specific need- remembered my child, her size, and style. Amazing! Additionally, Lisa has fit my child with the best fitting, most comfortable pointe shoes she has ever had. The entire staff here is phenomenal- caring, warm, inclusive- just absolutely amazing. The owner goes above and beyond for every one of her clients. I feel so fortunate to have this gem in our city- people can only dream of such a store for their dance needs! 5 STARS! A+++++ read more

My daughter was just promoted to pointe and our instructor told us to visit The Dance Store for our first pair of pointe shoes. It was such a special occasion that we shared with 2 of her teammates as well as one of our instructors. It was clear right from the start how knowledgeable the staff was and we had a wonderful experience. We tried on several pair to make sure we got the fit just right. She even took the time to teach the girls the anatomy of the shoes, how to do the sewing (although that is a service they offer there), how to keep them clean, how long it would be before potentially needing a new pair, etc. We left with some very happy young ladies. Our instructor checked the fit when we got back to the studio and we got the approval to go and ahead and sew the shoes. Big thank you to The Dance Store!! read more

If you are a dancer or the parent of one, this is the place to get what you need. Friendly Staff. Reasonable prices. The Dance Store is great place for me as a parent of budding performers to get their dance shoes, tights leotards etc.. The staff is super knowledgeable and ensure that my children get the right equipment. Also since this is the place my kids have been coming to to get mainly their dance shoes...The Dance Store also keeps a written record of a dancers growth, style and measurements for the perfect fit. Finally theres this... On my last visit here with the kiddo's I struck up a conversation with another Dance Dad who was getting his daughters measured for the right pair of shoes. This man had driven his girls all the way from Bakersfield to get to this store! Google map that to see what Im talking about! I think that action alone says it all that this is the place to get all your dance shoes and attire. Clearly their rep has traveled a distance. A shout out to that dad too for going the extra extra mile for his kiddos! Without a doubt. I recommend The Dance Store. read more

My daughter needed a new pair of jazz shoes. Lisa was wonderful. She was very patient and extremely helpful. Our 3 year old is starting ballet on Friday. Came into the The Dance Store as it was recommended by a friend. We had so much fun in this store picking out a tutu dress and ballet slippers. Also a plus that it's right next door to a delicious empanada place (The Empanada Factory) read more

Still a huge fan of the staff and service at this store. We came for my daughter's first point shoe fitting and shoes. The staff was already aware of her teacher's preferences and made sure the experience was one that would be a wonderful memory for my daughter - complete with photos and personal attention. We like the variety of pointe shoe brands and sizes carried here and the variety of dance wear. We still love our small dance store close to home but this one is my daughter's favorite. read more

This place rocks! They have always been super helpful finding what my two dancers need, and if they don't have it, they'll order it. When they do, they communicate well to let me know when it arrives. They are very knowledgeable about all of their products, and good at making suggestions- professional and friendly. They are always a pleasure there. Whether coming for first time dance stuff or coming back for new pointe shoes with an injury now and having to try on ALOT of different choices, they are knowledgeable, polite, kind and understanding. They know they want customers long term and with this treatment, they will. Today happened to be a non busy day which was great for an intensive fitting so that rocked, but they just rock overall no matter what! Looking forward to our new pointe shoes...and hopefully coming back again and again for more. read more

Some places in our world serve as comfort food to the soul. My local dance store is one of them. Sigh... my beautiful childhood came rushing back while I was inside. This is like the ballet shops of my childhood, which, I've recently noticed, are a dying breed. The staff is expert, they track down special orders for you, and seem to have, and deservedly so, a very loyal customer base. It felt like going back to the days when I would notice every new thing at the local ballet shop and dream about getting it for Christmas. I recently bought some leather Bloch ballet slippers here (going to take a class again) and some items for a Halloween costume. It was a very good experience. read more

Well folks, I considered going back but looked at the recent reviews and it appears the customer service is the same- very poor or hit or miss at best. There are other dance stores in the area, and as this store fears but does nothing to make up for with customer service, plenty online. I would recommend going online or any other store. There's plenty you can find on google or yelp. This is not the only place to get dance items. Save yourself the lack of respect, courtesy, or consideration by the people running the store. It seems like a trending issue from the recent reviews and my experience. It's sad that the customer service was so bad that this still leaves a mark in my memory. I truly hope the staff isn't like this to everyone and that they start to treat all customers better than this. If one day they do, perhaps I will give them a second chance but this is one experience I still remember as one of the worst customer service experiences in a store, especially a small one like this where customer service is paramount. read more
