When I walked in, immediately no less than 4 employees greeted me. I was hiking if this is a new thing? I came to just look and I wasn't very serious about buying anything. The sudden change in temperature made me think that I do actually need some thermal shirt tops. They have thermals but not the exact type that I am used to. I like the old school thermal long sleeve tops with the little squares. If was all good though, I got to see what they have which is a lot of nice stuff!

My PT therapist mentioned Montague & Son The Birkenstock Store located in Herndon and yesterday I finally dropped by. Located close to Lotte Plaza and Fair Oaks Hospital, it's a small store but packed with Birkenstock sandals and other ancillaries . I was met entering by a young lady (Ceres?)who took her time to help me decide which sandals would fit and what colors were available (none of mine were so went with second best). She was very thorough, up to the point where another young lady who was obviously a close friend stopped by and then I had her divided attention to check-out. I have my sandals and tried them as directed for an hour first day and the tried the second day. It hurt in the top of my foot and I had to read the reviews to find out why it was hurting. Would have been nice to have been told that by my associate. Not cheap so pay attention in the store. I overheard another associate going deeper into the physical aspects of the sandals so try and see if you can enter, walk around and listen in to conversations to see which associate seem to be most knowledgeable. Hopefully the sandals will break in shortly and I can experience the benefit.

While we were waiting there were two people in front of us using the machine on their own. There was no one from the store helping them. I assumed I could do the same(use the machine). I even asked the people if they were done. When I was asking my husband to take his shoes off a person on my back told me "NO, YOU DO NOT DO THAT" I turned around and told him there was nobody there and the other people were using it. He told me with a hash tone I HAVE TO HELP YOU. I literally thought he was going to tell me to help me understand the results of the machine. The only thing he did was press start and he LEFT. HE LEFT without an explanation or NOTHING. I felt like a person being joked by a selfish guy. NO One in the store said anything. We turned around and left. I took a picture of the people that were at the store and only white people were being helped . I'm sorry but I have to say it, there are stores that are very racist and this is one of them. Customer service is the worst :(

I probably tried on 15+ pairs of shoes and ended up buying one pair. After trying them on again at home, I decided they weren't for me and was able to return them (30-day return policy). No problem! I purchased another pair when I went to return them. Their prices are on par with the Birkenstock USA and Amazon.com. I think most pairs of Birkenstocks go for $120-$140. Many pairs are on sale (10% off), and they advertise in the Clipper Magazine (check your mail: 10% off purchases under $150, 15% off purchases $150-250, 20% off $250+). All things considered, you will probably break even or save by shopping here. I purchased a pair of Birkenstock Boston clogs and a small item for $128--yes, that includes tax! Right now, these shoes alone retail for $140 on the Birkenstock USA website and Amazon.com--not including tax! Montague & Son also carries a variety of other "comfort wear" shoes (Dansko, Naot, etc.). They do have certain colors and styles on sale for various brands, which can be anywhere from 20-30% off. Items are not white elephants and can be found relatively easy online. Fair is fair- period. My first encounter was primarily for research purposes however, wanting to support local businesses, I still walked away with a couple of items. As it so turns out one of these items turned out to be defective ultimately requiring an exchange, This cost me another 30-mile round trip in DMV traffic. No issues there, i had the original receipt and it was a simple and painless exchange with the exception of staff side talk. Service - staff is present, waiting and at the ready. Like loss prevention and teenagers in a convenience store they are ready to pounce. it is uncertain if it is due to being such a small location or if it is out of sheer boredom but they are there to support and apply pressure if needed. Selection -they offer a decent selection of boots, buckles, hats, and western accessories. Much less than a large name brand store as you can imagine due to floor size and layout. Giving off a vibe like entering a large swap meet booth rather than a well established business that has been in the community for years. Value - Sadly extremely lacking and outright predatory. I was in the market for a pair of ostritch cowboy boots and my search ended with utter disappointed I discovered the product offered was well over priced compared to their competitors. A pair of boots listed online between $409.00 and $459,00 at WJ Colt's listed sales price of $609.99 with an additional "20% discount" before taxes were ultimately applied. The same pair of boots Original MSRP, were a laughable, $762.99 with a bright red X over it offering the illusion of a bargin. At such price points the items can continue to sit on the shelf until the right sucker comes along. Not today..
