You can find liquor at a much better price here than outside at a liquor store. It's a cross between a mini-exchange and a full exchange. Definitely on the smaller side of exchanges I've been to, but they have a decent selection of clothes, shoes, cosmetics, electronics, home goods, and pet supplies. Dog food is cheaper here than outside, but their stock is kind of hit and miss. They haven't had my dog's favorite kibble the last 3 times I've visited. Everyone has to show their military ID when they walk in.

After I retired from the military my family made a conscious choice to blend back in to a community that was not predominantly military families. Although exciting, we knew there would be adjustments. #1? No PX. Say hello to the Coast Guard Exchange in Centerville, VA. It is a gem of a store that caters to government employees in the Coast Guard, DHS and retired military. It has all the thinks most exchanges have, especially tax-free shopping. Every little bit helps in the NOVA area. Electronics, clothes, sporting goods (including a gun counter) and a huge class 6 section. I was told about 1/2 of all sales are from the booze offered. If you have not checked it out, it is worth the trip. There is always a sale.

I love this Exchange! They have ample parking plus two EV charging stations. You get two hours of free charging so you can get charged up while you shop. How cool is that! They are conveniently located in Centreville so depending on what time you head there, it could get congested. If you live in the area and you're a military person, make sure you come by and check them out. There's a lady by the front door that checks military ID card so be prepared to get asked and show it to them. The staff was really friendly- they all greeted us when we came in. The store still smelled like a brand new store. It was great. I walked around and checked out their aisles. It's a typical exchange. They were pretty stocked up and everything looked in order and arranged properly. We specifically came here to get a bottle of bourbon for a friend and let me tell you - their selection is amazing. We won't go anywhere else. Probably better than Ft. Myer or Belvoir. They had a HUGE selection of wine, alcohol, beer - you name it. Of course, they were priced a lot lower than your local ABC so we definitely came to the right place. We picked up four different bottles since they were such a great deal! I highly recommend. The cashier was a trainee but she was very friendly and efficient. She told me about the rewards program so I signed up and also gave me two gift cards worth $10 since I spent over $200. I guess I'm going to have to come back next week :) As I was walking out the building, I realized that the cashier accidentally gave me an extra dollar so I came back around and gave her the dollar back. Such a great place to do your shopping. I highly recommend!

This store has a lot of things one could use for the home or on the go. Upon the mellow greetings from...what is her name?...we will call her Hagatha, my eyes came to rest on three pair of traditional Korean pillows. There was a lovely color of hot pink, grey/black and army green. I liked the hot pink, but the my wife and Hagatha thought the grey/black pillow is the way to go. I chose the grey/black pillow and it has helped get rid of the neck pains my body has been telling me. I think this pillow helps better aligne my neck. If not, it is doing a better job than my old pillows. According to the internet, they say it is best to change your pillow(s) every 1 to 2 years. Guess I am there. Today I woke up with some pain between my shoulder blades. Could it be from my new pillow, or leftover pain from my previous pillows? I will give this new pillow a two weeks trial period and see how it goes. I also saw a futon at the store and if I were single, it would be a lovely bed for me. However, since I am not a bachelor, the Asian style beds would have to be a king size. Nothing else really caught my eye in this store for buying, but Hagatha was cheerful and polite . Even if her English language was very limited, she and I were able to communicate through Sign Language, Classafiers and some English. I found it very interesting to communicate with someone even if you can't speak their language. There is this connection when both of you understand what the other is trying to say. After collecting what we needed, the cost of doing business cam to $70 and some change. I look forward to coming back here again. Guess we will see what Hagatha's store has to offer next time.

Customer service had no idea how to fix it and no interest in fixing it; they just said "it's always worked before". I spent 45 minutes trying to get someone to resolve my issue and they just shrugged and said "it should work". Of course it *should* work; the problem is that it *didn't* work! They also didn't accept cash. I ended up unable to pay for anything I'd bought despite having digital credit cards and cash, and they had no interest in resolving the problem. I asked if there was someone they could speak to who could provide a solution and they said there was no one else. Tried to be patient because this isn't their fault, but if the app is not functioning the way it should then there should be someone it can be reported to, like an IT person or development team. They said they had no idea if Walmart even had such a team or department, and that also the app was fine, it was probably that both payment methods I tried (from different companies) were having problems at the same time. I told them that this prevented me from shopping at Walmart ever because they didn't have a functional payment method I could use and they just shrugged again. Edit: forgot to add that the lady handling the checkout stations was very nice and sweet. Appreciated her a lot.

While at Fair Lakes Shopping Center yesterday I saw a Hobby Lobby. I'd never been in a Hobby…read moreLobby. So as an artist I came in to see what art supplies they carried. For this review, I will stay away from the controversies Hobby Lobby has been embroiled in, but note that the owners' conservative beliefs are off-putting to many people. The first thing I noticed at Hobby Lobby were the long checkout lines (only a couple lanes were open). The second thing I noticed was the loud elevator music featuring saxophones. The third thing I noticed was the weird cluttered layout. There really aren't any main aisles, it's basically a rabbit warren filled with cheap crafts and an overabundance of religious tchotchkes. Again, I came in to see their art supplies. I did see a row or two with a decent selection of canvases, but zero other art supplies. I saw one row with hobby paints, but that doesn't count. From what I could tell, there are no public restrooms. That doesn't seem very Christian to me. But maybe it was an oversight on my part, that Hobby Lobby does have restrooms and I just missed them. Upon leaving the store, I noticed the checkout lines had barely moved. Other than the fact that I don't live anywhere near this location, I have no motivation to ever shop at Hobby Lobby. Michael's is a much better arts and crafts supply store. Though, if I want to purchase art supplies, Plaza and Blick are my best bets.

Prices are comparable to other arts and crafts stores but i do find Hobby Lobby has better selections. Plus there is almost always promotions so make sure to check for promo codes and coupons for additional savings. The day I visited; I need to get some fabric and after deciding on the one I wanted; I had to walk around the area to find some help. After I was able to find a staff member; I asked for some assistance in the fabric department. She complained that it wasn't her department and that i should ring the bell that was on the counter. She could see that i was taken back by her response so she quickly quipped fine!... she'll help me. She ended up cutting 5 yards of fabric for me that took less than 2 minutes to do. I think this store needs more staff and more customer service training.
