The woman who cut my hair was terrible. Firstly, she didn't even ask me how I part my hair before she started cutting, I tried saying something and she shushed me, said it didn't matter. THEN she curled my hair, and I asked if it cost extra she told me not to worry about it. When I got to the front to pay I was indeed charged extra for styling. So now I have uneven layers (since she cut them with my hair parted down the middle), the overall length was actually cut much more than what I asked for, and I am definitely NEVER going back! read more

I have never found a hair dresser that could give me exactly what I wanted each and every time. I walk out of this salon feeling like a million bucks. top notch treatment....and she truly is a superstar!!! From cut, color, extensions, blow out, brazillian. She has been the answer to everything!!!!!! After leaving I couldn't stop looking at myself in the reflections and as soon as I was safely in my car.. I went there with my kid for a cut. Called ahead and got a quote of $25 for shoulder length hair for my girl. Then made an appointment. The whole hair cut including wash and blow dry took 13 minutes. I asked if there was a wash after the cut and they said no. Then when it came to paying , it was $30. Asked the lady why the price changed as I was told on the phone it was $25. The lady insisted that it was $30. The lady did not further verify what i said or inquire. I did not dispute further but felt that this place was treating the customer merely as a number. More importantly, I believed that the place tried to overcharge when possible. I would not recommend this place for children hair cut. read more

Was probably in and out within 10 minutes. A 30 minute job took a whole 6 minutes. The girl gave me the sloppiest and most uneven hair cut I have ever received. By the time I could even get a word out it was too late... my hair was ruined. I was charged $30 for the cut. What a joke. Please save yourself a miserable week. read more

However, after a few bad experiences, I found myself coming back to Vivian whom I had fond memories of. She possess all the good traits of a stylist. I go to April at the Cut Above in the Promenade for all my waxing needs! She is amazing and super reasonably priced. Since moving here I've tried numerous other places and the wax grows out too soon after its done. April's always lasts with me for a good while. It isn't the most painless, but she is as gentle as can be in order to ensure the hair doesn't grow back too quickly. read more

I have a thick and curvy hair, arranged to make a permanent straightening and also hair cut. Maha been introduced to become my hair stylist, she asked for what I wish to do and give me choice of two types of permanent straightening which it's keratin or Japanese which is the most straight hair method. So I told her I would like to do the Japanese method because I want a perfect straight hair. However when it done, I only realized she have done the keratin type instead of the Japan method. So I have no choice to just go back and wait for 3 days and have the first time hair wash to see the result. As the result after the first wash, except my hair been shorten up, there is no trace of straightening been done. I'm so upset and called back to make an appointment to have a fix. So I gone back for a fix, she insist to continue using the stronger keratin method as claimed can't used different chemical until hair growth. So I still give another try. This chemical is stronger and it's was so irritated on the scalp, and Maha still sarcastic on me said cause I asked for it as I want straighter hair, she been so rough when handling my hair with the chemical even though I told her it's was irritating. This time there is another nice lady try to monitor the process and giving advice to Maha is something not right, however there times she refused to listen to her too. As the result on this second time hair done, my hair still does not looks like straightening at all and it caused my scalp had around 10 big and small spots of chemical burn and my whole left ear also have a pretty bad chemical burn and still pretty swollen even after 4 days. I strongly advice not go to Maha if you though to find a nice hair stylist, as she never consider what customer want and hits proceed what she want on you. read more

Thought I'd make a review about an experience I had couple months ago because considering I went to Tonyc yesterday and had way better service than The Cut Above even though apparently they're the same company...it just makes no sense.... I had a blonde ombre and decided to go back to my natural dark hair. I went to go see Jessica since my cousin usually sees her and I saw how her hair turned out which was great! When I arrived, the lady at the front greeted me and asked me to sit in the back and wait for Jessica. She came and asked me what I wanted to do with my hair and I said I wanted a trim and to dye my hair dark again. She said okay and started the dying process. After she put the dye, she came back a few times to see if the dye was setting properly. Other than that, the assistant came to check on me. Once it was time, the assistant was the one who rinsed my hair, and then I was led to the chair for my hair cut. I was expecting about 2 inches off with layers, but Jessica only did 3 snips with the scissors and said I was done. Once again, the assistant came to me and blow dried my hair as well and curl it. My bill came up to over $200, which I don't seem fair because I was expecting an actual cut and an appointment with Jessica, not the assistant. What annoyed me the most was when her next client came (I'm assuming a regular of hers) that was when she stopped cutting and grabbed her assistant to finish my hair. I feel that I should have just the same amount of attention than that other lady, but obviously that wasn't the case. Most likely not coming back here read more

I've always been skeptical about hair salons in malls, but The Cut Above at Promenade Mall has quite grown on me. I actually LOVE it! The stylists are super fun, and prices quite reasonable--especially for my beloved blow dries. I usually go to Mary and Vivian--they're both excellent. What I love the most about this spot is that I can almost always get an appointment last minute. If your stylist isn't available, there is always someone that will be able to fit you in. They also offer nail services, shellac and waxing. I also like that you can get your roots done (even if you're dyeing it darker) without getting charged for a full colour. Great spot. read more

The Cut Above always has a place for last minute appointments and what I love best about the salon is its . Sumi was my hairdresser and I liked how patient and thorough she was while cutting my hair. Also, I liked the overall look of the salon, it is clean and has modern decor. Things that could be improved are the staff's attentiveness and customer service, I feel that I want to be focused on as a customer and given priority and enough time/attention. read more

I went to the salon as a drop-in and they took me right away. Everyone was pleasant and my hair cut was awesome!! I can't remember the last time I was this happy with my hair. And I had the best blow dry ever I have received TONNES of compliments on my hair over the past few days. I saw a review for Vivian on The Cut Above's Yelp page about a year ago saying positive things. I went to dye my hair for the first time with her and it has been damaged ever since. She told me several contradicting things - I wanted black dye that would wash out and she said that she could do that for me. She told me it would wash out in 2-3 months. As she was dying it, she said 'you only have to come back for root touch ups in the future!' I was very confused by this because at the beginning she had told me it would wash out. From the day I got it dyed I have been trying to get the hair colour out and it won't come out, even though she said it would wash out. I went back to her and she said she could remove it without damaging it, then I called back later, and she said that wasn't possible. For a year I have been trying to undo what she did and my hair is more damaged than it has ever been. I am very upset that she said so many contradicting things as she was dying my hair, and now I have to live with this damaged mess. I would definitely NOT recommend seeing her for hair colour. read more
