I've been going to this salon for over a year now and always get my hair done by Arisa. Love the way she works. Based on observations, I think all stylists at this place are good and skillful. They're very caring and friendly. read more

Salon de Elephant has been my go to hair salon the past 1-2 years! Located at the intersection of Yonge and Elmhurst, the space is on the 2nd floor (not accessible as you need to navigate a flight of stairs). They have a team of great stylists and an easy online booking system. They do have a big customer base where sometimes you have to reserve a few weeks in advance for the stylist you want. There are different prices in regards to which stylist you want (based on their experience). I've gone to Salon de Elephant numerous times and have gotten cuts from Kei, Michael and recently Maria. Each time I've gone all stylists have been professional and friendly. I tend to go for the same hairstyle and each stylist was able to cut my hair to my liking. The hair wash and massage is always a treat - definitely a great head massage as you lie back and relax. Overall, great salon if you're looking for something around the Willowdale area! Will be returning for my next haircut. read more

I recently booked an appointment for a women's short hairstyle cut. However, I'm quite disappointed with the result. The senior stylist didn't seem very experienced with short cuts -- there are uneven, chipped spots on both sides. Also, I asked for layers in the back, but it looks completely smooth and round instead. Overall, it doesn't resemble the layered style I requested. read more

I liked the booking system online. It was very straightforward and prices are all clearly marked. I have hair below my chest level and did not get that extra surcharge due to long hair. I booked with a normal stylist and not one of the seniors or creative directors. The stylist did a quick consultation and asked what style I would like before proceeding. She did a quick trim (I was going from long to shoulder length) before the shampoo. It was nice how she confirmed with me multiple times the desired length I wanted since the long to short is quite drastic hah. The hair wash was nice and there was a head massage involved. After being seated back in the chair, hair was blown dry before more trimming and styling. I was asked if I wanted it straightened/curled before leaving but since it was raining that day, I opted for nothing. Payment was made at the front counter. Overall, quite satisfied and I will be back for future trims and cuts. read more

Made an appointment for my mom ... she was welcomed and received with great respect and kindness. Being offered a hot towel to wash her hands on a steamy hot and humid Toronto summer's day. A classy touch. Her own words a spa treatment and her haircut was the best she had received in a good long time... her stylist A. is a professional and expert in her field. Been here several times now with different stylists. Most recent one was with Nikki, Senior Stylist. Showed her the haircut I wanted and she was great to check in through out the haircut to see if the length was what I wanted. They washed the hair and gave a really nice head massage. After drying it, she offered to style it with curls and it was fantastic. Got a lot of compliments. Overall, yes they are a bit pricy but worth it! Book early! read more

very pricy. they don't ask you if you are ok to have a Director level stylist to cut your hair who will charge higher. the cut was good. however should have asked the customer if they are willing to pay that price of 95 bucks for a hair cut read more

Me, my mom, and sister went have all been there and have had amazing experiences. I have super thick, curly, long hair and need my hair to be dry cut, which means 1hr blow drying and straightening. And the time I went, Min was super patient and didn't complain at all. They are also excellent colourists, everyone who leaves that salon looks incredible. Yes, it's quite pricey but you are paying for amazing service. read more

First off, I haven't stepped foot in a salon in over 5 years as I've been really picky since the last hairstylist I had. After reading the reviews, I decided on this salon. It was very easy to book an appointment through their online booking system, you can choose the level of stylist and services you would like to be done. I received confirmation of my booking and a reminder one day in advance before my appointment. The salon is located at Yonge/Sheppard, upstairs and entrance is between The Fry and the dry cleaners. It was very spacious and I was offered a drink menu and hot towel as soon as I walked in. Melissa, the stylist I chose was very friendly and had a very welcoming personality. She was patient and discussed what I would like done in terms of hair cut (length, style, etc) and coloring (what colours would work for me without lighting my hair, options if I did want to lighten my hair, etc). After consultation, she worked out the pricing before she did anything at all to my hair. I personally prefer knowing how much I'm paying without being surprised at the end; so that was a plus for me. I ended up going for a warm red tone and I love it. My hair doesn't feel damaged or dry at all. Plus, my hair is a lot lighter and has more shape to it. Thank you Melissa! Overall, I loved the experience I had here. Location is convenient and service here was wonderful as well. I would definitely recommend Melissa, she is passionate and loves what she does! P.S. Go during your birthday month and get 20% off all services ^^ read more

Salon de Elephant - Me and Melissa (: Plus the final results of my hair - Hair Salons Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Salon de Elephant is located on the busy Yonge Street, just walking distance North of Sheppard subway station. It is tucked away on the second floor (entrance is between The Fry and a dry cleaning store). The stairway will bring you to a whole new paradise! And this new location is more spacious, has nice decors and many, many windows for lots of natural sunlight. NOTE - This review is very similar to the previous review I had for Salon de Elephant on the old business page and that is because I strongly stand by what I said and what I have experienced. Service is amazing from beginning to end. I love being pampered like a princess here! I have been here a few times already, and I am a loyal customer to Karen. She is fantastic. Stylish, poised, and full of ideas. Her assistants/hairstylist trainees are always very polite, have a keen eye for details and are always quick on their feet (Thank you, Rachel - you were fantastic!) Hot towel being offered when you come in. Complimentary snacks and drinks are available. Head massage during the hair rinse/wash is heavenly. My visits usually range from 3-5 hours, depending on the service. If you want quality, you will need the patience during the long process... but I usually fall asleep listening to the soothing music in the background hahaha... there is also a nice spacious lounge area with books and magazines available while you wait :) This salon also offers hair products to go with your unique style. Their Aveda line of shampoo and conditioner is excellent. You can tell the difference right away - my hair was silkier, smoother, healthier, stronger and bye-bye tangles! Recently bought the dry shampoo, can't wait to try it out. Highly recommend this salon and be sure to make an appointment online anytime using their real-time schedule or call in to arrange a time :) read more

It was my first time to visit this salon before chinese new year. I wanted to find a salon where service and quality stands together. So I searched the best hair salon for asian hair in York/Toronto, this is how I found this salon yelp reviews and reminded me of a friend who used to come this hair salon with a positive feedback. Then I gave it a try !! It is important to me to schedule a hair appointment beforehand which fits my work and life schedule. Their online booking option from Salon de elephant's website is easy and email returned quickly. You can clearly see your stylist choice and time slots at one glance. My stylist is Sudien Li, he was thorough and took time to explain everything from choosing a full color and basic hair care 'lecture' ( I would call as an outsider from hair industry) The service and impression both are positive. They are polite and welcoming. I will return on my birthday -they offer discount on your birthday and there is also a very good cause this salon is trying to help cancer patients with hair donation. I think this is a very good and kind to help people in needs and I enjoyed the experience. Since they moved to a new place, I haven't visit. How is parking? Can anyone suggest where to park is a little easier ? Thanks read more

I'm from US visiting. Haircut was ok. Took off about 4inches of long straight hair. Clean place. Small but kept well. No issues. Toronto is expensive so not sure how to compare. $65 + tips and taxes=$85 read more

I walked in today for an balayage but was a lil displeased with a couple of issues! They have halogen lights everywhere in the salon and I had to unfortunately sit right under one for hours... which felt like forever, 4hours to be precise! Despite of requests the stylist refused to shut it or change my place... the second thing I felt the owner has a way of charging you in many hidden ways.. like they don't have a credit card machine and charge you 13% more if you use a debit card.. they do have a ATM machine in the store but it is inconvenient! Blow drys are charged over and above..and to get to the colour part which I feel the stylist did just an ok job.. overall experience was ok! Wouldn't go there again.. read more

First time here and boy did I feel like royalty. I made an appointment Today and got an appointment for 3pm on a Monday. They first offer you a drink menu. I had the yuzu matcha lemonade for $4 and it was so refreshing on such a hot day. I was then brought over to get my hair shampooed and the lady game me a full on scalp massage. I almost fell asleep! My hair stylist was min and she was so good with my hair! She did exactly what I wanted and even showed me tips on how to treat my hair. It was like education hair 101 for me! Definitely coming back. I came here to have my hair cut and donated on a Saturday afternoon, and every seat was expectedly full. The place is clean, tidy and bright, and has an open concept layout. Chargers are available if your phone is running low. Women's haircuts are $55 flat if you pay in cash or $55+tax if you pay by debit, though a 10% discount is given if it's your birthday or if you donate 8 inches of your hair. I booked a one-hour session with Andrea to get myself a lob, and she did a great job. She's great for introverts (like me!), giving some polite small talk and checking in every so often. She was very attentive in checking that I liked how the cut was going every step of the way and was accommodating to the questions I had and the changes in plans as the appointment progressed. The cut itself was also well done, especially for the price point. Most products they use are by Bumble and bumble. Every haircut comes with a head/neck massage, a wash, and the option to have your hair curled/styled at the end. Tea and coffee options (both complimentary and paid) are available to accompany the salon's selection of magazines when you wait. Their online booking system is easy to use and is available on their website. I appreciate that it tells you your price upon booking! read more

I booked an appointment online at 10:45AM on a Monday after my friend had recommended this salon to me. When I came in and a lady immediately asked for my jacket to hang and handed me a beverage menu and a hot towel for my hands while I waited. My hair stylist was Melissa. She was very kind and had a fun personality. She made sure she knew exactly what I wanted and let me know the price before she started so that I knew what I was getting myself into (My wallet is crying, but that's what I expected). For the first 30 minutes I was there, it was really silent in the entire salon. Melissa tried to make conversation with me but I was too shy to give proper responses because I felt like the whole world was listening to me. After a while they started playing music, but Melissa looked very concentrated in her work so I just continued to be my awkward self and not make conversation. I had to wait for 45 minutes for the dye to sink in, so I just patiently sat in my chair. The workers constantly stopped by and asked if I needed anything like a drink or a magazine to read. One of them even came by with a bowl of snacks which I thought was so cute. After what felt like hours, it was finally time to wash the dye out of my hair. The hair washing chair I sat on was so comfy! It was like I was lying on a bed and the sink was like a pillow. I like how she asked for my preference in either warm or cold water before she washed my hair. After my hair was all washed, I was ready to get back up but then she suddenly put a hot towel behind my neck and said "I'm gonna give you a head massage now". I was so surprised LOL. I'm not a big fan of massages so it felt so strange to me, but I do admit it was pretty relaxing. When my head massage was finished, we went back to my dear chair to get my hair dried and curled. It got a little louder in the salon so I felt more comfortable talking to Melissa. I'm glad I was able to talk to her because I got to see how cute she was and have some giggles. She was very detail oriented and made sure that not only me, but she was satisfied with the results as well. When we were all finished, she even helped me put my jacket back on! The service was amazing from beginning to end. This is a place I would highly recommend. (Call me a rap god) read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I have been to salons in the past where I have really liked the quality of the work so have gone back repeatedly, but never have I felt so attached to one place. Maybe it's like when you find "your person" - well let me just say, Salon de Elephant is my person (or place, in this case), and I am never breaking up with it and never ever ever letting it go. I just love how people here remember my name and are like so friendly. It's something I've underestimated and overlooked over the course of my whole life, and it makes a world of difference when you're so comfortable with your hair stylist and you have such a high level of trust in them. I came back specifically to Melissa because my pink hair had faded and my roots were growing out. I knew exactly what I wanted and she completely delivered and I'm completely obsessed with my hair. I also wanted to try getting an undercut but was kind of nervous about it, and she and I talked through it and she made sure she had a clear understanding of what I wanted the final result was. Couldn't be happier. Quite honestly I just wanted to write this review so I could rave about my hair and attach a picture of the new colour because I'm obsessed, that is all. read more

I've had my hair cut twice so far at the Salon, and both times ended up loving the result. They're online booking system is so convenient and easy to use, and I find their prices to be very fair compared to other salons in the area. I really like the atmosphere of the salon and the fact that they do offer various beverages- I highly recommend the coconut water ! Both times I had my hair cut first, followed by a shampoo and relaxing head message. I also appreciate that they give you a discount during your birthday month! I've been a loyal customer at Salon de Elephant for the last 10+ years!! They have expanded from the old location to this new one with more seats and more amazing stylists!! Calvin is my go-to hair stylist, and he's always done an amazing job and will continue to do so with his professionalism. This new location also serves espressos, lattes and specialty coffee for their customers (additional charge$3+ but it's worth it!). Service and location is excellent, there's a public parking right behind the building so during the winter, it's not a far walk, also if you are there early there are 2 exclusive parking spots at the side of the building for free! Highly recommended if you're looking for a stylish haircut and colour! Very friendly staff and they speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Korean. This was my first time coming to Salon De Elephant based on the reviews here. It sounded like my new go-to salon so I booked an appointment online, few days in advance to secure a spot. I booked a Top Stylist, Niki Chen, to cut and style my hair. My appointment was around 4:15pm and I arrived about 15 minutes early. Niki was with another client, but she did try to have a few mins chat with me as time allowed. She was trying to ask me what I wanted, I showed her a few pics that I was interested in and also tried to explain it...It was kind of hard to explain...LOL... I like the fact they serve drinks for an extra few dollars, makes it feel quite homey...the service is excellent as soon as I stepped through the door upstairs...they took my coat, they even have a charger outlet to charge your phone, with the most popular plugs, how cool is that? They got to me around 4:30, washed my hair with a nice massage and I was seated. Niki respected before doing any cuts at all. She asked me before cutting to ensure I was at my comfort level each step of the way...that is amazing service! At the end of my cut and style, she asked me how it was and I said I think it was still a bit long so she said she felt the same way as well so she managed to cut and layer it a bit more.. It's definitely not hard to understand why they are so busy even on a Sunday. All in all, I think I found my new hair stylist!! read more

Every time I go there I have so much fun. That's why I always go on a weekend morning and feel great for the rest of my day. Today Rachel gave me the best head massage and Mellisa gave me the best haircut. $65 before tip for a ladies haircut and the quality of the cut felt like a five year old did it. Its all choppy everywhere and does not flow at all. If this is a new trend I'm not buying it. The very most underlayer is so short I can't put into a ponytail and if I do a half updo it's ALL choppy. My left and right side are not even to one another at any point throughout my hair and each layer is not even at all. Pretty much a huge mess. The shop itself is nice decent clean and service they are definitely trying. Just quality of the cut I would avoid which is their sole service. Will never return read more

When it comes to my hair, I don't require a lot for it. I've long accepted that my pin-straight, fine hair requires way too much product and effort to be anything BUT straight. That being said, I'm quite low maintenance in my cuts, and absolutely loathe spending an arm and a leg to get a trim twice a year. That's what drew me to Salon de Elephant: for a great cut, it's a great price in a clean studio. It's easy to book online, conveniently located Yonge, just north of Sheppard (on the 2nd floor of the building) and you get great service! read more

This was one of the best salon experiences I've ever had. The service here is stellar! From the minute you walk in you are greeted warmly and they bring you a hot towel and a drinks menu. I didn't have to wait very long for my stylist, in fact I think she was even a bit earlier which is always nice! I had Melissa and she is awesome! I told her I wanted to cut my hair pretty short and she checked a few times during the cut if the length was to my liking and before she blow dryed it asked again if it was okay or if I wanted it a bit shorter. I really appreciated her checking in like that. She gave me a really nice cut and even gave me a mini tutorial as to how to curl my hair with a straightener. I still have not been able to get it as nice as she did but I'm practicing! Thanks Melissa! My husband came to pick me up and was a bit early. The staff there gave him just as great service (hot towel, offered drinks) even though he was just waiting for me. Everybody there was super nice. This is my go-to place for hair cuts now. Stephen and I went for haircuts today at the salon. We were greeted by a couple of people who guided us to a long table to sit down, and the girl took Stephen's sweater, then asked us if we had appointments. After she took our names, our stylists came over to greet us! May and Sudien consulted about what we wanted (and of course being the teacher I am, I was bossy and told Sudien what to do for Stephen's hair as well, haha). I originally had an appointment at 11:30, but they were very accommodating, and we had our appointments together! We both started off with a hot towel for our hands, then a relaxing hair wash and head massage, followed by a very nice cut! May took her time and asked me every step for my input as she trimmed my hair. She also gave me some suggestions for what I could do for any upcoming hair appointments, too. Everyone was very kind, the atmosphere is lively, but relaxed (when is it not relaxing to have someone comb your hair for you?!). I had such a great experience. I'll definitely come back for my hair colour (two weeks before my upcoming nuptials in September; I'll remember, May!)! :) Cleanliness: constantly has a person sweeping up hair and picking up empty cups Friendliness: read above Service: superb! I came here to get my hair fixed after going to a cheap hair salon. The lady did a great job, but she talked quite a lot. Maybe it's just me, I'd rather have a quiet exchange rather than sharing my life experiences lol. I booked a haircut with Melissa based on the reviews here. I had an amazing experience! I only had a wash and cut but she was a pleasure and cut my hair exactly like how I asked: trim the split ends, add layers, and shape it like a V in the back. I held off from writing a review until weeks later because normally after a haircut (I have yet to find a fave salon), I'm unhappy with how much I paid and how it turned out. The last salon I visited charged $80 and my hair was not what I wanted. My card wasn't working so they actually let me leave after my haircut to go to an ATM to withdraw cash. I also ordered a tea which I never received, but they just took it off my total so it's nbd. Needless to say that the staff are amazing.
