Had the Cuban spot recently at Kirby Ice House. For the price, I would expect fries to come with the sandwich. Service was lowkey rude and not very friendly. I got the Cuban Sandwich which they claim to be the best in the world. That's a big reach. I'd give it a 6/10 at best. It had all the classic components but the slow roasted pork was very dry. The rest tasted like any other average Cuban sandwich. The sandwich was $17 and there is no pricing listed on the entire truck and when I asked them for pricing they told me to look it up on the website-without telling me the website lol I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend. The menu was small but had some items that appeared promising. I love Cuban sandwiches but my friend (a Cuban) suggested I try a Cuban hamburger or frita. I got the one with Swiss cheese and milanesa. It came with fries on the side and potato sticks inside the sandwich. Flavor was 5/5, price was 3/5, service was 3.5/5 they seemed bothered that I asked for a to go container, I'm not sure if they were joking or not. Overall this place is a solid 4 stars. I would eat here again. read more

Tried this place while at Woodrow's in midtown. This food truck has a limited menu, which is typical of food. We ordered the steak sandwiches. They were chewy and hard to bite into. For the price ($35.72 with tax), I would have expected a better sandwich and steak quality. read more

The Cuban Spot - Half the sandwich. Very chewy so it took forever to eat. Ended up tossing the rest. - Food Trucks Near Me

We enjoyed everything very much so. The Cubans had a nice crunch from the bread, the pulled pork was juicy and tender. Tostonias where nice in size and not greasy at all. Habanero aioli sauce was amazing. I will say it would be nice if the Cubans had some kinda spice on them. We bought...a full Cuban, a half Cuban comes with fries and a full size of tostonias. It was $35, kinda pricey. read more

Right when you go up to their food truck you smell amazing food ! Their menu has a whole bunch of award winning items on their menu. I was fortunate to try their steak sandwich. Right when you bite into it you can tell they take their time to prepare their meat. Sooo much flavor! I also had their fried bananas with the veggie chip thingys. Also thier house made chipotle sauce was amazing !!! Will definitely come back to this spot in Houston. The staff was incredible for explaining the menu to me! read more

Takes forever (25 minutes)!! Their food looks way better than it tastes. They served people a few minutes before me with the same order who came way after me. The lady that works behind the counter has a bad attitude as well. Never going to eat their food again... read more

Oh....my downside is that I wish the menu had what the item was included or topped with. It would make the ordering process much smoother. At a food truck event, myself and a stranger both were surprised that our fries were topped chorizo instead of beef. It was no biggie, we both should've asked before ordering but the pics online looked like steak. But the fries were still good! read more

Had them cater my event. They arrived early, food was fresh, hot, made on the spot and delicious! All my guests were more than satisfied with the quality and the quantity of the food served Probably the best Cuban sandwich in the Houston area! The pan con bistec was also really good; steak was nice and tender. George and Jose were great to work with and they were charismatic with all my guests and accommodating. The easiest way to rate the experience is "Meh". I was excited by the location and my unsolicited thoughts about food trucks. At the end of everything I ordered the half Cuban sandwich with fries and I was quite underwhelmed. I don't know if I just had a bad experience there or what. The meat was tough and the fries were average at best. It just seemed to me that it would be kind of difficult to mess up this particular sandwich and fries. We split a half sandwich and didn't finish it. Maybe your luck there will be better than mine....Even still...Life is Short..Get In....Get Out.....Enjoy read more

So this food truck came to my apartments today and it was really good! I tried the steak fries and half of a Cuban sandwich. The fries were so good! The Cuban sandwich was good as well but I like the fries better. The lady that took my order was very nice and she gave me some suggestions on what to order. It was alright. Nothing to special from what I recall. Food could be more flavorful. Service was good.

The Cuban Spot is a Cuban food truck which I stumbled upon at a festival in Pearland. Having been to Miami, I loved the Cuban food there and I was happy to see some Cuban food in Houston since it's tough to find. They of course have the classic Cuban sandwich but I decided to switch it up and get the bacon and swiss frita burger which was recommended by the guy working there. The Cuban take on the burger has chorizo, potato sticks (awesome, right!), and a red sauce. I got it with tostones which are basically salty flat plantains. The burger was good, the sauce just didn't really stand out for me. The tostones were also solid. Along with a drink, it came out to close to $20 so it's a bit pricey. I would definitely come back to try the Cuban sandwich. read more

This food truck was parked outside of my apartment complex the other day and since it had CUBAN writing in big lettering on the side I decided to try it out. I knew what I was going to get before I walked up - the Cuban sandwich. One of the guys working tried to get me to get a burger, but if I'm going to try out a new Cuban place you have to try out the sandwich. Yum. It was really good! The pork was well marinated beforehand as it had a ton of flavor, and the bread was perfectly crispy. It even worked well as a lunch the next day (though the sandwich wasn't crispy then). I also got the tostones because I love fried plantains, and I'd say they're a 4 out of 5. Their crispiness didn't last so well as I walked home, but the jalepeno aioli that was served with them was so so good. The only complaint I have is the pricing - for a Cuban sandwich and tostones, I paid $18. I think they should figure out a way to make a combo for a cheaper price since $18 is a little high up there. read more

At first, when I saw the price of the Cuban sandwich ($12) I was a bit skeptical since it seemed rather pricy for just a sandwich. Boy was I glad I took that chance! Cuban sandwich: 4/5, huge! About 10 Inches long and packed with deliciousness! The guys were very generous with the meat! Very moist and tender,, had everything from the pickle to the mayonnaise, and it even had mustard! (Sadly, a lot of establishments that I've been to do not include it). Tostones: 4/5, hot, crispy and delicious! It had some seasoning on top which added to the flavor. My only gripe, where's the mojo sauce? I would definitely come here again for my next Cuban fix! read more

Ordered frita fries: frita is a mix of ground beef, chorizo, bacon meat, and jalapeños. (you can definitely taste and see the chorizo and bacon, that I'm not even sure if it has ground beef)The taste is amazing and I totally regret not getting the burger instead of the fries. The fries are well seasoned, crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. On top goes the frita which is cooked and topped with cheese. From what I can tell, it's then placed upside down so the meat can be adorned with a jalapeño, cilantro, garlic aioli with a featuring of toned down sriracha sauce. It comes with a tolerable heat and are wicked. I would recommend to the food truck to stick closer to the numbering system. A friend ordered her cuban sandwich before someone else and she got hers after. Overall worth checking out. read more

The Cuban Spot - Frita fries or loaded fries! Taste great! - Food Trucks Near Me

I really enjoy the concept of food trucks. I think people get in their mind they are going to get some sort of restaurant style meal at $3 plate prices. It doesn't work that way. Food Trucks in Houston produce some of the most unique meals and it's the convenience that you're paying for. The Cuban Spot makes rounds near my work and I like to take advantage. They have a simple menu, I usually go for the half Cuban. At $10 it's PLENTY a meal as it comes with Fries. You could split the full Cuban at $14 for a slightly better economic value, but your call. The bread is authentic and it's overflowing with meat and cheeses. I don't like the pickles myself and once I found a bit too much mustard on it, since it's made to order, you can ask for it to be tailored to your palate. I mentioned it comes with fries, I highly recommend asking for a substitution. Try the Tostones (fried plantains) or Maduros (fried, sweet, plantains). Unique items you cannot get anywhere else in town (or at least without going to a Cuban/Caribbean restaurant) and they seem glad to substitute. The proprietors of the Cuban Spot are the real deal, seemingly having passed their expertise through generations. I have a Cuban coworker (65+ in age, knows his stuff) who says this is as good as you can get outside of Miami. If you see the Cuban flag flying over this awesome food truck. Pull over. You won't regret it! read more

Had the Cuban sandwich, and plantains, with a Mexican coke! And WOW! The food was real! That's authentic! You wouldn't believe you were getting Cuban flavors like this from a food truck, and yet, here we are! Experiencing bold flavors, the plantains were perfect! Ripe enough to enjoy the sweetness but not to ripe that the texture would be mush! My first experience here and I will be returning for more! One of those food trucks you need to follow on social media so you know where they will be! Because real Cuban food on wheels, is something you just don't see done right everyday! read more

@thecubanspot Croquette (6): $5 Cuban loaded fries: $12 Cuban sandwich: $14 If pate decided to stop being "snobby" and enter into the world of streetfood this would be it. Incredibly creamy and almost the texture of mashed potato yet it's 100% ham. Just beautiful. Such a process to accomplish this desired texture. Dedication and hard work were put into creating this croquette just for you and me to savor. And the breadcrumbs didn't crumble or become flimsy. Twas a very important factor that didn't falter or steal attention from the core. This massively hearty Cuban sandwich is what they're known for, roasting the pork for 8hrs and importing their bread from Tampa, this is no subway sandwich. Although that's what they're known for I must say I preferred the loaded fry version simply because the already flavorful meat soaks up the tanginess from the mustard and the creamy spice from the habanero aioli. That combination added even more color to the palate. The fries were actually seasoned, many food trucks and restaurant owners seem to forget that yes the topping is important but so are the fries. They need love also. However here, attention to detail was present. Their menu is loaded with a ton more intricate fries and Cuban burgers. They even marinade their steak for 72 hrs and everything is made when ordered. There's even vegetarian loaded fries which contain "onions, jalapenos, and garlic cooked on the grill with sweet fried plantains and cheese topped off with a house made habanero aioli and sriracha mayo." super excited to indulge in the rest of the menu! Follow their Instagram to see where you can find them. read more

I wish I could get a refund for the $15 I spent on the driest Cuban sandwich I've ever had.

So I got news someone was trolling my Cuban Boys! Well, I can't have happening, so I read the review in question and went back for a visit today, because they have a spot just a mile and a half from my house, they were on Post Oak, even though Yelp insists they were on Bagby. I asked them to make me "flavorless, dog food" frita mentioned in the OTHER review, because I am completely obsessed with their traditional Cuban, which takes me two meals to completely consume and the fried sweet plantains, Tostones; those are a complete throw back to childhood for me, mom would pan fry banana's with cinnamon and sugar for breakfast, plantains when they were available. The Bacon and Swiss Frita: a combination of beef, chorizo, pork, and more bacon. Then meat is seasoned with Cumin, Salt, Pepper, and many other spices I won't reveal because you just need to go EAT it, 3 to 4 huge slice of bacon, then there is seasoning topped on the patty while it is being grilled. I didn't ask with any alterations to the way the frita was made because I wanted to taste it just like it most people would receive it. I despise Swiss cheese, but the taste and seasoning from the meat balanced the tangy, sharpness of swiss that I dislike so well that I ended up loving this Frita. It also has crispy potato "chips" as part of the toppings, I've seen people do this to their burgers and sandwich's, never really wanted to do it to mine, it works and I think they said it was Cuban tradition. I fully expected to only be able to eat only about 1/4 to 1/2 of the frita and then give the rest to my room-mate, because of the swiss cheese, I ordered the loaded frita fries, they make the most perfect fries ever, the frita was so awesome I ate the entre frita and couldn't eat but a coupe of bites of the fries. The loaded frita fries have the same meat that the frita's have on them, the portion is generous so you can make meal of them alone if you want. They many different kinds of loaded fries, it's the sauces that give you the kicker that makes you want more. They live on the spicy side of life, but it is so worth it. Something else you have to spend your money on is the Corquetas, they have two flavors chicken or pork. I like the pork, and the spicy ranch sauce they created to go with their food makes it taste so good. First and foremost, I am a food truck junkie! Secondly, I NEVER write reviews! The customer service was horrible. One of the guys was very straightforward as if he didn't want to assist. It was just very odd from what I typically experience. Maybe the food truck had everyone on board heated to where they couldn't be friendly to customers. Also, I had the bacon and Swiss Cuban burger. This was the most seasonLESS burger I've ever had. There was absolutely no flavor. The fries were delicious though. I will never eat here again. I rather go to McDonald's. Lastly, the prices are insane. I don't mind paying for great food but it literally tasted like I was eating bland dog food. Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Tried this food truck as it was a the brewery where we have our running club. Omg delicious!! My husband and I had the tostones and the bacon and Swiss frita. The tostones were the best I've had since Costa Rica!!! Hot, crispy and salty! Perfect! The frita was a combination of chorizo, beef, and pork. With a lot of bacon on top, and Swiss and potato chips. So much flavor!!! The total was $16 a AND WE COULDNT FINISH THE MEAL!!! So much food! So yes, the prices may seem high, but for the amount of food, I think it's very reasonable!
