I got the Cuban Sandwich which they claim to be the best in the world. That's a big reach. I'd give it a 6/10 at best. It had all the classic components but the slow roasted pork was very dry. The rest tasted like any other average Cuban sandwich. The Cuban Spot is a Cuban food truck which I stumbled upon at a festival in Pearland. Having been to Miami, I loved the Cuban food there and I was happy to see some Cuban food in Houston since it's tough to find. They of course have the classic Cuban sandwich but I decided to switch it up and get the bacon and swiss frita burger which was recommended by the guy working there. The Cuban take on the burger has chorizo, potato sticks (awesome, right!), and a red sauce. I got it with tostones which are basically salty flat plantains. The burger was good, the sauce just didn't really stand out for me. The tostones were also solid. Along with a drink, it came out to close to $20 so it's a bit pricey. This food truck was parked outside of my apartment complex the other day and since it had CUBAN writing in big lettering on the side I decided to try it out. I knew what I was going to get before I walked up - the Cuban sandwich. One of the guys working tried to get me to get a burger, but if I'm going to try out a new Cuban place you have to try out the sandwich. Yum. It was really good! The pork was well marinated beforehand as it had a ton of flavor, and the bread was perfectly crispy. It even worked well as a lunch the next day (though the sandwich wasn't crispy then). I also got the tostones because I love fried plantains, and I'd say they're a 4 out of 5. Their crispiness didn't last so well as I walked home, but the jalepeno aioli that was served with them was so so good. The only complaint I have is the pricing - for a Cuban sandwich and tostones, I paid $18. I really enjoy the concept of food trucks. I think people get in their mind they are going to get some sort of restaurant style meal at $3 plate prices. It doesn't work that way. Food Trucks in Houston produce some of the most unique meals and it's the convenience that you're paying for. The Cuban Spot makes rounds near my work and I like to take advantage. They have a simple menu, I usually go for the half Cuban. At $10 it's PLENTY a meal as it comes with Fries. You could split the full Cuban at $14 for a slightly better economic value, but your call. The bread is authentic and it's overflowing with meat and cheeses. I don't like the pickles myself and once I found a bit too much mustard on it, since it's made to order, you can ask for it to be tailored to your palate. I mentioned it comes with fries, I highly recommend asking for a substitution. Try the Tostones (fried plantains) or Maduros (fried, sweet, plantains). Unique items you cannot get anywhere else in town (or at least without going to a Cuban/Caribbean restaurant) and they seem glad to substitute. The proprietors of the Cuban Spot are the real deal, seemingly having passed their expertise through generations. I have a Cuban coworker (65+ in age, knows his stuff) who says this is as good as you can get outside of Miami. If you see the Cuban flag flying over this awesome food truck. Pull over. From what I can tell, it's then placed upside down so the meat can be adorned with a jalapeño, cilantro, garlic aioli with a featuring of toned down sriracha sauce. So I got news someone was trolling my Cuban Boys! Well, I can't have happening, so I read the review in question and went back for a visit today, because they have a spot just a mile and a half from my house, they were on Post Oak, even though Yelp insists they were on Bagby. I asked them to make me "flavorless, dog food" frita mentioned in the OTHER review, because I am completely obsessed with their traditional Cuban, which takes me two meals to completely consume and the fried sweet plantains, Tostones; those are a complete throw back to childhood for me, mom would pan fry banana's with cinnamon and sugar for breakfast, plantains when they were available. The Bacon and Swiss Frita: a combination of beef, chorizo, pork, and more bacon. Then meat is seasoned with Cumin, Salt, Pepper, and many other spices I won't reveal because you just need to go EAT it, 3 to 4 huge slice of bacon, then there is seasoning topped on the patty while it is being grilled. I didn't ask with any alterations to the way the frita was made because I wanted to taste it just like it most people would receive it. I despise Swiss cheese, but the taste and seasoning from the meat balanced the tangy, sharpness of swiss that I dislike so well that I ended up loving this Frita. It also has crispy potato "chips" as part of the toppings, I've seen people do this to their burgers and sandwich's, never really wanted to do it to mine, it works and I think they said it was Cuban tradition. I fully expected to only be able to eat only about 1/4 to 1/2 of the frita and then give the rest to my room-mate, because of the swiss cheese, I ordered the loaded frita fries, they make the most perfect fries ever, the frita was so awesome I ate the entre frita and couldn't eat but a coupe of bites of the fries. The loaded frita fries have the same meat that the frita's have on them, the portion is generous so you can make meal of them alone if you want. They many different kinds of loaded fries, it's the sauces that give you the kicker that makes you want more. They live on the spicy side of life, but it is so worth it. Something else you have to spend your money on is the Corquetas, they have two flavors chicken or pork. I like the pork, and the spicy ranch sauce they created to go with their food makes it taste so good. No, I am NOT being giving free food to write a good review, I am supporting an awesome local small business, I pay for all my food. First and foremost, I am a food truck junkie! Secondly, I NEVER write reviews! The customer service was horrible. One of the guys was very straightforward as if he didn't want to assist. It was just very odd from what I typically experience. Maybe the food truck had everyone on board heated to where they couldn't be friendly to customers. Also, I had the bacon and Swiss Cuban burger. This was the most seasonLESS burger I've ever had. There was absolutely no flavor. The fries were delicious though. I will never eat here again. I rather go to McDonald's. Tried this food truck as it was a the brewery where we have our running club. Omg delicious!! My husband and I had the tostones and the bacon and Swiss frita. The tostones were the best I've had since Costa Rica!!! Hot, crispy and salty! Perfect! The frita was a combination of chorizo, beef, and pork. With a lot of bacon on top, and Swiss and potato chips.
