The village pub, for the past 500 years. I'm reassured that it'll be here for years to come too. The ceiling is only about five feet tall in parts, boasting the historical fact that people used to be much, much smaller.
This is a loyal spot for a pint of lager, pink (rhubarb) gin and tonic, or a hot meal that hits the spot. My favorites: meat & ale pie with chips and the half chicken with salad. There is also a chef curry of the day each afternoon. All of the meat is high quality and well-cooked. Possibly my favorite meal out in England so far.
There is a big, permanent tent, event space in the back that you can rent out. We rented part of the pub, as well as the tent space for an event and had a blast. The staff let us bring our own food and guests could come up to the bar to order drinks.
There's a parking lot out back and an outdoor kids playing area as well. read more
