So a couple of things I've read on negative reviews. Drinks that only had an ounce of booze. No way today: it's Saturday night and I'm fully drunk on two. They were rye manhattans but the bar tender made them well and I'm having a great time. Second hurrying songs, we've sung a few and the only time I've seen any hurrying is when there is a long ass outro. I'm honestly cool with that when there are plenty of folks who want to sing. Gay bar + karaoke, can't go wrong. We arrived late, after 1pm, so they were doing last call every 10 minutes from that point on and made absolute sure to kick everyone out by 2am, even though it was only 1:45. Awesome place to hang. I celebrated my birthday in here and the people here are so loving since maybe because of the small area that it covers. Now the drinks are way too over priced for the delivery and execution of it. There's only one bar tender and I believe she needs a partner in bar tending. My wife and I just moved to Capitol Hill from SoCal, when out for a walk we went in for a drink. Very friendly people, have a small town feel, a neighborhood charismatic feel. It is a damn good thing I do not live in Seattle. I would be a raging alcoholic. What?? Oh, I already am? Well, then you should take my advice as expert and drink at the Crescent. On the particular morning drinking marathon that landed me and my cohorts here the owner decided, being as we were so dedicated to the cause of getting smashed before happy hour, that he would be a good enabler and bought us a round of bloody marys. He even went to the store to get bloody mary mix when he realized they were out. It was worth the wait, and even would have been had they not been on the house. These drinks doubled as their own little breakfast with olives and pickled green beans and asparagus, oh, and plenty of vodka. As we sat sipping our little testament to our drinking problem the owner introduced himself and explained that karaoke starts at 3. Yes, as early as 3pm you, too, can be making a huge drunk ass of yourself. He also explained how his vision for his bar was pulled from a few bars in my lovely city of San Francisco and he wanted his bar to transcend any category....not a straight bar or gay bar or young bar or old bar but somewhere all alcoholics can meet and have a good time. I think he is doing a fine job and you should definitely go see for yourself. If you hit the place up on a particularly mixed crowd morning you may even get a second free drink after being whisked away to vote for the LGBT Emperor and Empress of Seattle....provided you are a registered voter. Only thing keeping you guys from five stars is the fact that you don't give your female employees a plac other than the restroom to pump breast milk. First and foremost that sucks for a new mom. Everything was good. The bartender was great, the DJ was cool and the drinks were popping. The bouncer harassed me because he was having a bad day. When I spoke to the manager, he stated that there was nothing he could do, but allow me to get harassed. This was my first time at this bar. This maybe my last time as well. Karaoke rules this place, it's every night and from the sights I've seen, it's damn popular. I love this place.. they've got great regulars, great djs, and stiff drinks. Came only for early karaoke stop, they start at 7:00. This is a ghetto gay bar. Lousy service with only 6 people at the bar. We waited for 10 minutes before being acknowledged. Red wine was poured out of a tiny airplane style bottle into a champagne glass. Greasy rude servers and unusually expensive drinks at least my husband and I, we were charged $10 for a can of PBR and the pathetic glass of wine. Strange since all other reviewers say that the drinks are very reasonable? The karaoke sound was average, although the black KJ was happy, engaged and welcoming. Yes, this is my attempt at reviewing a place that we all love for our own weird reasons, the crescent. I am confused how do you rate a place that is so bad it's good. The crescent is your dirty weird cousin that nobody gets to pick on but you. If I gave it 5 stars I think that would be the same as giving it 1 star and the crescent is the only place I can think of that makes that logic make sense. This is not your first stop but your last stop. The outside usually smells of defiled vodka and the inside surprisingly enough doesn't smell to bad at all. The bartenders are a treat the hosts are all fun and clever. Go with friends on a Friday night around 11. Get your song in right away though the wait is long. The crescent oh how we love thee in the most worst and charming way possible. If you dont like it the first time give it at least one more try. I've been to the Crescent only three times. There's not really a good reason for this. Everything about it delights me, from its divey goodness to its funky and friendly clientele to its amazing KJs. I went there last night because my friend was visiting and he stays up too late, plus he wanted to impress this girl he had met. The KJ for Tuesdays is a vivacious and awesome woman who deserves a fuckton of tips. The karaoke binders are absolutely stuffed to the brim with songs (yet somehow I can never find the songs I want to sing, and so I'm forced to sing new songs - not a bad thing), and the people singing really put their diaphragms into it - the usual people there are full of vim and soul. The bartenders are friendly and they are willing to put vanilla vodka in your Guinness, even though you both know that it's a bad idea and that you'll be throwing up in a soup pot later. Skip Rock Box, head to the Crescent every damn day. At worst, you'll have to head out before you get to sing, but at least you'll get some amazing people watching in. read more

The Crescent is insane. The cute female bartender whose name I forget makes up awesome drinks for me based on my random requests. There's a crazy mix of gay and straight, hipsters and frumps like me. The people-watching is great. The karaoke is decent, with a fine selection of songs and a reasonable sound system. The stage is prominent (there's reeeaally nothing but the karaoke here) and the sound is decent. It's a bit loud for an intimate conversation, but not too terrible. What is terrible is the crowdedness. You have to watch your purse or put your wallet in front, and don't wander away from your table to get a drink or you won't have a table to come back to. In fact, if you arrive after 9:00 you're unlikely to find a table at all. Cozy up to the neighbors, though, and you'll have some interesting conversations. Whether you're in the mood for "interesting" or not. What's also terrible is the parking, just like everywhere on that part of Capitol Hill. Maybe it's the frumpiness (see above), but I hate having to park in Kirkland to hang out on the Hill. Maybe when light rail is finished things will be better. Last time I was there, the ladies's room toilet was clogged so I used the men's. That was a cultural experience I'd rather not repeat. read more

What I will say is that whenever I have come here full of fun and party, this venue has leeched it off of me with the same, I'm assuming, vicious suction being applied in the men's bathroom. My habit of overdressing, or at least dressing well, makes me an outsider, yuppie scum, or worse here. It is fun everywhere else. Oh Crescent. You really know how to treat a liver like the bad, bad liver it is. All I can say is you will never find a place in Seattle with a more eclectic mix of people. Come with an open attitude or go home. This is not a place to take karaoke seriously - although there are some amazing singers, we're not having a contest here... what we're having is a GREAT time. The bartenders and host will attend to that, you just get there early enough to get a song in. Oh and did I mention their really inexpensive drinks? Or how they do happy hour from 12-6:30 every day? The Crescent definitely has a number of things going for it as a karaoke bar. However, it is not without its faults. The bar is a divey joint along Olive on Capitol Hill. The bar features wood paneled walls, roving transvestites and other Hill folk and a casually rowdy atmosphere. The Friday night host was excellent. He kept the crowd goin', ran a fair rotation and even recommended seasonally appropriate suicides for certain singers. The karaoke hosts rotate daily at the Crescent, but there is singing 7 nights a week and... bum Bum BUM!!! Weekend AFTERNOONS OMGWTFBBQ! Now, if your constantly having to fend off vampires, you can get your rockin' out of the way under the cover of daylight! The book at the Crescent is sizeable. However, I was disappointed because the first two of my staples were not included. One of them, TMBG's Birdhouse is very common among the karaoke joints I've been to and the Crescent did have Istanbul, so I was kinda surprised. The second song, Punk Rock Girl, is one of the rockinest karaoke songs out there and, while less common, is included in the books at several other bars around town. Besides, I have a feeling that the folks at the Crescent would appreciate that song more than the meat heads and hoochies that infest a place like Ozzie's. Finally, the Crescent also gets very crowded on the weekends, which is an undesirable trait for a karaoke hound like myself who prefers to be the center of rock-tension. Still, I would recommend the Crescent as a post happy-hour rock stop on a long night of boozing. read more

I liked it quite a lot actually... they had quite a large selection as far as songs go and a quite adorable burlesque-like karaoke hoste. She even had a her own line of fun leather bracelets for sale at her dj table... total cuteypie. The drinks were pretty good, teh whiskey sour was enjoyable and actually strong enough to keep me feeling pretty good throughout the night. But if you want a fun, festive and down-to-earth hole in the wall where you can relax, knock back a couple cheap well drinks and sing your heart out, The Crescent is the spot. And if you're not in the mood for the crowds and long queues of the karaoke nights, going on a weekday evening has its own charm. The community of bargoers here is very inviting and inclusive. I'm from L.A. (say it with me) "BOOOOOO!!!!" I needed to get out of town for a weekend so a friend and I escaped to Seattle. I hopped online to find a gay friendly karaoke bar and ran into The Crescent. The kids running the front desk at the motel described The Crescent as "a little seedy" when we let them know that where we were headed. Seedy? Well, it now has a new meaning. I F*ing LOVE this place! One of the bartenders recommended Shock Top, which is now my favorite beer. I got in a fight with a tranny over who had nicer tits. (I won). I sang several songs to a dancing and cheering crowd (and I don't sing well). I made friends with several people who ended up meeting up with us the next night, except for the guy who had us over for pizza after the bar closed. I got happily drunk and think my tab for me and my friend was $24. That's 2 beers in L.A. Perfect escape. I go every time I'm in Seattle now. read more

I dread karaoke. In fact I hate my peeps for inventing it, especially the kind that scores you after singing. In Asia, it's serious business!! At the Crescent Lounge, karaoke is lively and carefree. No scoring, all for entertainment. The crowd is so diverse, it seems the 2010 Census takers plucked out locals to represent every demographic: the goth, the twinks, the jocks, the straights, the gays, the nerd, the socially inept, the partyer, the hipster, the fruit flies, the lush, the old, the young, the tone deaf, and the vocally gifted. The bottom line: Everyone is a rock star no matter if the only place you last sing is in the shower. Crescent is a down-to-earth dive devoid of pretensions and where everyone is having fun. SEXY..DIRTY..SINGING..DANCING...u get it all at the Crescent. While all these new bars seem to be hitting cap hill, all looking pretty and being the flavor of the month. The Crescent is naughty old school..strong drinks..and the people watching is amazing. Went with a fellow yelper, and we had a entertaning two hours, taking in the scene that is the Cresent. Impromtu dance party hit the floor...the karoake was crazy...lots of people singing songs that you can dance to. I always have a good time at the Crescent. The drinks are cheap, and the karaoke is even cheaper! It's got an oddly good selection - missing a few necessary 80s songs, almost no grunge, but they've got a ton of country and an At The Drive In song! This is a divey little spot that has karaoke nearly every night, stand-up comedy on Tuesdays, and often has a very eclectic crowd. read more

LOVED this place! Came through on a business trip and if I lived in Seattle, I'd visit here all the time. First, for a dive bar, it's surprisingly open and airy - no stale smoke and sweat sort of vibe here. Second, the woman running the karaoke line was one of the best DJs I've seen - got everyone in rotation fairly, none of that "tip to get your song in" dance that a lot of folks play these days in big cities.
