I found the Creative Sewing Studio earlier this year by Google search and I was shocked by how many 5 star reviews they had. I am no longer surprised after taking 2 rounds of classes here. I have so far only had Mikala as an instructor but dang is she amazing! She is so kind and patient and through in her teaching. She also is super personable and really takes an interest in her students personally. The classes themselves are structured so well and you learn so much. There are so many different kinds of classes too which is a huge draw for me. I'm already signed up for two more month long series of classes and one full day workshop. I'll recommend this studio to anyone and plan on being a student here for a long time! read more

I found this studio by doing a google search for sewing classes to learn how to sew. I started this journey about a 1 1/2 years ago and was bitten by the bug and haven't looked back. I was very nervous as I was new to sewing but Mikala and all the other teachers I have had the pleasure of learning from are amazing! They are all so patient and really take the time to help us all with whatever we need! I highly recommend The Creative Sewing Studio. It is so much more than "just a sewing class". read more

I started my sewing journey this past Spring at The Creative Sewing Studio. It has been a great experience for me as a teacher to get out of my comfort zone and work at something that I am not skilled at. Mikala has been a fantastic teacher- knowing when to help hands on and when to step back and make me figure it out for myself. What a joy to see my understanding and skill grow! I am so proud of my projects! I highly recommend this experience. read more

I have taken many classes here and I have gone from feeling like a sewing machine and I couldn't get along to sewing my own clothing. They also offer so many fun craft classes. All the teachers are amazing. It's such a fun place to just step away from the daily grind of life and spend some time crafting with amazing people. read more

Highly recommend the Creative Sewing studio! I have had nothing but positive experiences here. My most recent class was a miniature kit building class with Krystal. I had zero experience making miniatures before taking her class, but her kit was so organized and thorough and her instructions clear - I felt so excited and confident while building it! She was the most patient teacher and such a joy to learn from. I left the class with the most adorable little miniature reading corner. I can't wait to take more of her classes! read more

I just finished the Sewing 100 course with Mikala, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Mikala is a kind, patient, fun instructor and an excellent teacher. I learned an immense amount in 4 2-hour classes, without feeling overwhelmed. I have much more confidence in my ability to use my sewing machine, and because this class was so enjoyable, I'm really looking forward to continuing to learn and grow in my sewing skills by taking additional classes here. read more

I'd been wanting to learn to sew for a while, and I signed up for Sewing 100 with Mikala. I was a complete beginner with no prior swing experience, so I was a little nervous. But after my first class, I immediately signed up for sewing 101 (and now the doggie jackets course too!). The studio is so welcoming and Mikala is so knowledgeable and a great teacher. This place is truly amazing and can't wait to take more classes! read more

It's the help that I needed to refine my sewing skills. Mikala is very helpful. The class is Pleasant and friendly. I've really enjoyed it!

Fantastic studio, teacher, and classes! I learned so much from Mikala in the Sewing 100 and Sewing 101 classes. Up until now my sewing machine had been nothing but a source of frustration, and sewing was just a mystery. Mikala is so knowledgeable, and so patient and supportive with every student. The studio is a beautiful, bright, serene and organized space; the class was a highlight of each week. The classes offered are so practical and result in beautiful, useable projects. The beginner classes are exactly what you need if you are looking for a positive experience in learning to sew. read more

I have nothing but all good things to say about Mikala, her staff and Creative Sewing Studio. I came here with the intend to learn the basics of sewing and using a machine and now I cant stop signing up for class! They offer a wide range of very interesting classes that keeps you coming back. On top of the classes, their instructors are extremely nice, helpful and are truly amazing instructors. I would recommend this place to anyone - I'm so glad to have stumbled upon this gem! read more

I've taken sewing 100 and now in the sewing 101 class. The classes Mikala runs have been life changing for me to the point that I want to sign up for more! She's patient and has great knowledge about the sewing world and gives tips on how to interpret patterns and such! I like the fact that she'll give us tips that might not be in the patterns you buy at the store(that the designers somehow expect you to know). I look forward to more classes and cannot recommend the creative sewing studio enough! read more

I've been sewing for a while but have limited skills so decided to learn from the ground up & enrolled in Sewing 100 at the Creative Sewing Studio. I immediately began learning new skills & techniques - Mikala is a great teacher. Since that first class I've completed Sewing 100, Sewing 101 & am enrolled in the upcoming Sewing 102 class. The studio also offers seasonal one day & weekend classes and I'm looking forward to some of those as well! If you've never used a sewing machine or if you want to learn some new skills I highly recommend enrolling in one of the many classes offered at the Studio. read more

Great place to learn. Mikala is a very patient and thorough teacher. I like the fact that the classes are small so you can get the attention that you need. Recently took a quilting class and will be signing up for one her sewing classes. Highly recommend!! read more

I've always been the type of person to pick a hobby, buy stuff, and then shove it in a closet (see me if you need candle making supplies), and we all expected sewing to be the same. People are SHOCKED that I'm still sewing. Like, ALL in and engaged. I spent most of break sewing. I made a wall hanging quilt in one day, I cut and sewed all of the squares for a queen size exploding heart quilt for my dad, and made two different sized pillows. My husband works from home and said it was the first time he's ever come to check on me and I'm doing the same thing as I was during his previous check in. Which is all thanks to Mikala and her teaching style. I've taken a lot of crafting classes and while all of the instructors were great at their art, I've never felt that their teaching skills were very effective. I could do the skill in front of them while they were watching me and guiding me but the second I was by myself I never felt confident in my skills. The way Mikala plans classes and chunks the lessons into things that are manageable and scaffolded and they way you support each student has been awesome. I've always felt super supported and know that even if I make mistakes, she will talk me through a way to fix it myself. It has been awesome!!! read more

Let me start by saying, I've wanted to learn to sew since I was a little girl. I was REALLY excited when my sweet mother, a gifted quilter, dollmaker, painter, and artist, first gifted me my sewing machine. We had grand plans for her to teach me everything she knew. Unfortunately, each time she tried to teach me to use my machine, both of us wound up frustrated, angry and increasingly reluctant to attempt another lesson. My wonderful gift just sat there gathering dust-for years. Finally after relocating to MA and still crazy homesick after 6 months, I needed to find something to get my mind off of it. I tentatively decided to give sewing another try. Best. Decision. Ever. Mikala at the Creative Sewing Studio, who I've taken most of my classes with, is an excellent teacher-patient, funny, and just really has a knack for understanding what kind of issues beginners run into and how to get around them. She has a relatable, hip vibe about her that makes sewing seem positively cool (who knew?!) Because of this, her courses attract everyone from high school kids to seniors- most of them repeat customers and each class I've taken has been with a fun group of people. They offer such a huge variety of sewing classes -everything from quilting, making clothing, serger courses, craft sewing, and even a variety of art courses-truly something for anyone with a penchant for the creative. I'm on my fourth series of courses now (Intro to Sewing, Sewing 101, Sewing Patterns, and now Be Your Own Tailor, which all include 5 classes each) and can't believe how much I'm enjoying a hobby that used to bring me to tears. Even though it's a 30-minute drive from my home (without traffic), I am already plotting the best way to tell my husband I've signed up for another one. Wish me luck. read more

I have now taken a few classes (Beginner, Sew 101, and Christmas Tree Skirt) and loved them all. Mikala is a patient and knowledgeable instructor who can assist even the most novice sewer (like myself). Depending on the class, you will work on the project under her guidance and complete some steps at home. The classes are small (max of 6 students) so each student receives a lot of attention and help. She also updates the class offerings based on season and student interest so you always have the opportunity to learn more. Mikala is a talented seamstress and an absolute sweetheart! She takes the time to truly support each student as they build their confidence. I'd highly recommend her classes to anyone regardless of their skill level - the studio is a hidden treasure! read more

I live 40 minutes from this studio but continue to make the drive because it's such a fun and relaxing experience. i highly recommend this studio. read more

If you have never used a sewing machine and would like to learn, The Creative Sewing Studio is a great place to learn! I am so happy with my experience at The Creative Sewing Studio! First of all, I chose this studio because they offer so many different types and levels of classes. I came in with zero sewing experience and now I feel confident on a sewing machine after one class--so much so I went and bought my own! The environment is so welcoming and Mikala's teaching style makes everyone feel comfortable to learn at their own pace. I intend on taking more classes here and highly recommend them! read more

I can't say enough about this studio! I was referred by a friend and started with the Sewing 100 class. I've also taken some follow up classes after loving my first one! The studio is very welcoming and you will feel right at home! read more

Absolutely fantastic class. Mikala is a great teacher and so patient with all the "beginner" sewers! I took the sewing 101 class and it was a great refresher on how to thread the machine, make a bobbin, and all the basics I needed to try to use that dusty machine in my basement! Made an adorable pillow and tote and keep getting lots of compliments on the tote that I'm proud to say I made myself! I will definitely be going back for other classes for sure! read more

My husband and I took the beginner sewing class with Mikala. It was WONDERFUL. Neither of us had sewn much/any before and we were very interested in learning from square one. What a great place to learn. We made 2 items a pillow and a napkin holder. Both came out great. We got to choose our fabric from an eclectic collection and create our projects individually. The joy of seeing us all succeed and the relaxed vibe of the class added to the enjoyment. We all got to easily ask questions, make mistakes, fix mistakes, and just learn and see what we all created. The group started off quiet but was fully charged and in a lovely groove by the end of our first class! A true testament to the creative, engaging atmosphere curated by Mikala. We both highly recommend the Creative Sewing Studio and hope to take another class soon. Wait until you see the amazing sewing projects on display- there are so many different types of classes - and the creativity is endless! read more

The Creative Sewing Studio - Pillows we made in class - Art Classes Near Me

I finished Mikala's intermediate (103) class last week. There were four (maybe five?) projects that students could choose from, so the class offered some flexibility, while also providing enough structure that I didn't feel overwhelmed. I leaned some new skills (properly using a pattern, bias tape, and fusible interfacing) and worked on some skills that needed help (sewing a straight line!). The small class size allowed her to spend time answering each student's questions and offering suggestions for the best way to approach a task. Additionally, when a student worked on a technique that wasn't included in everyone's project (e.g. turning a strap, making a ruffle), she made sure everyone came together to see how it was done. That way, everyone was exposed to techniques beyond those necessary for their own projects. Absolutely recommend taking classes here! I start her clothing construction class today, so will report back on that soon! read more

I can't speak highly enough of Mikala and her beginner sewing classes! I have some extremely creative and crafty people in my family, and I've always envied their ability to sew, but I never took the initiative to take lessons for myself. Then, I saw a Groupon for beginner's sewing lessons one town over from where I live, and I decided it was the perfect chance for me to give it a shot without spending a ton of money on something I wasn't sure I'd be any good at. I came into this class literally having never touched a sewing machine in my life. I was a little bit nervous after I saw that some people had brought their own sewing machines and had some prior experience. I explained to Mikala that I had never tried sewing before, and she cheerfully responded that it wouldn't be a problem. She was right! After just my first two classes, I had made a throw pillow that looked like something bought from a store! I was so excited and encouraged, that I even went out and purchased a sewing machine of my own. I brought it to the next class, and Mikala showed me how to thread it and install the bobbin, and I was up and sewing with it mere minutes later. Mikala is great at explaining not just how to do things, but why you should do things a certain way. She keeps the class size small so that she can give each student the attention they need, and she is very encouraging all along the way! I met some very nice people in my class, and we had so much fun doing our projects! After only 3 lessons, I went home and made a dog bed for my pup all by myself. By the end of my 5 beginner level classes, I had made an adorable and durable tote bag! I've enjoyed the classes so much that I signed up for the next level, and I'm really looking forward to adding to my skills! Tote bags for everyone next Christmas! :) read more

This studio is a rare find. I signed my 8 year old daughter up for beginners sewing classes and she absolutely adores it! The studio is very cute and welcoming, the staff extremely helpful and knowledgeable and the classes are kept to small sizes so everyone gets a lot of one-on-one help. My daughter finished the beginners class and just started Kid's Sewing 101 which she also loves - and we can't wait for summer camp! I would definitely recommend the studio to anyone who is interested. Adults and children alike - a great place to learn a new hobby and make new friends! read more

This studio is a GEM! I decided to take my first class here this past summer and I'm completely hooked :) I wanted to learn a new hobby so I went into my first class a complete newbie and left with a solid sewing foundation. Mikala has been wonderful; she is so kind, funny, and helpful. I never felt like I was falling behind or not understanding a concept because she is always able to answer questions and demonstrate if needed. The class sizes are small which makes for a very personal experience. I have since taken 2 other sewing classes and a knitting class. The knitting class was taught by Heather and she is a sweetheart as well. Heather made sure that everyone in the class understood the steps before moving onto the next step. She spent time with each student to ensure they were all on the same page. And I can't stress how NICE she is! If you're looking for a place to take classes definitely stop by The Creative Sewing Studio, you won't be disappointed. I've wanted to learn to sew for years, but have been intimidated by trying to use the internet or instructional videos. There is a lot of information out there and it's hard to know where to begin. Plus I was worried about buying a machine and all the materials and *then* finding out that I didn't like it. I was so excited to find the Creative Sewing studio and the fact that they had classes that were specifically for beginners and that I was able to rent a machine for the class! I've taken the Sewing 100 and Sewing Patterns 101 classes. Mikala is such a great teacher, she goes through the basics in a really clear way. I'm definitely a hands-on learner, but she also teaches everything in a way that's good for people who learn by listening/reading instruction, or by watching others. The classes are structured to help beginners build their skills, but the environment is still really relaxed, fun, and creative. Taking these classes has both inspired me to try projects on my own, as well as make me excited about going back to take classes to learn new skills and techniques! read more

Sewing has always alluded me. I am an extremely technical person, but also a very creative person who loves using machines and technology in art and hobby, but my sewing machine spent most of its life covered in dust under all my other projects while I struggled to sew a straight line, or get my bobbin threaded correctly. The Creative Sewing Studio totally changed this for me. After only 1 course (Sewing 100) I felt the change immediately- I suddenly understood what to do and why I was doing it instead of trying to let my intuition and improv skills do all the work. Mikala is an amazing teacher and her passion for sewing is so genuine that I couldn't help but become fond of sewing instead of resentful of it like I always had been. Now my poor family cannot stop me from sewing everything I can get my hands on- my dog just walked by wearing his third new bandana this week. I love this place, and I am so happy I found it. read more
