The WiFi quality and A.C. both work really well- which is super important when you're trying to get a bunch of work done! I think the design is really intentional and beautifully restored and I noticed a ton of original pieces of machinery and decor reused from the original factory. The gal Sara(h?) that manages the property has been so amazing with answering my questions and even letting me in when I forgot my key card! A new bar, Far West, just opened next to the coworking space- I plan on stopping in all the time!! Thanks for existing, Rooms & Works!!

There are so many surprises within this one building. A bunch of apartments above, the shared office space and incubator kitchen on the main level. A bocci ball court, cornhole, grill and picnic tables in the courtyard. There is also another building out back that is not currently being utilized but is another amazing (small) space for something amazing once they figure out its intended purpose. My favorite part is the amount of items they salvaged during the rehab. From machinery to metal drawers, they incorporated as much as they could into the overall aesthetic of the place. Kudos to a great job and preserving such a hidden gem.

They make use of all of their space, coordinating music, burlesque, theater, art shows, etc, to be highlighted in the spot that makes the most sense for the medium. Does that make sense? No corner goes unused, you know? Once is a fluke, twice is a coincidence, & thrice is a pattern, right? Well then, unfortunately, the pattern here is that the bar staff is astronomically rude ): Like, noticeably mean. I wouldn't consider coming here for food or bev if there wasn't a very specific reason/show going on that I wanted to attend. That aside, I still have wonderful things to say about AS220 as an entity. Just a heads up for showgoers.

One Providence Place…read more Advertised as follows: The year is 2003. Providence Place is in its youth, only four years old and shining with promise. Deep in the bowels of this commercial complex, a group of friends carve out a secret 750 sq. ft. home for themselves, away from the prying eyes of mall security and the daylight reminder of things they would rather not think about. But what comes of letting our hurt take up too much room inside of us? Does every empty space always need to be filled? Or sometimes, is it all right to let what is hollow stay hollow? Loosely inspired by a true story, One Providence Place is an original 90-minute musical dramedy about art, grief, family, and the most carpeted mall in America. The space- Black Box: The Black Box is a nice little space nestled all the way to the right of AS220. Enough to fit about 30-40 audience members. Every seat is a good seat and it has it's own bathrooms. The play: It was more drama than comedy. I was not expecting that. After re-reading the description, they advertised it as dealing with grief and it was more a play about exactly that. I wanted it to be more comical and closer to the actual story. It wasn't my cup of tea but Kudos where judos is deserved. Someone had a vision and they went after it! Everyone knew their lines, their was some excitement, there were songs, they used their space well. Overall a dedicated group of artists did their craft and kudos to them. I always appreciate bathroom art.

This makes her an exceptional art instructor and you can see it in the work of her students! My daughter just started taking lessons from Ms. Venditto and I can already see a HUGE improvement in her techniques. There's a showcase at the end of the winter sessions (8 weeks total, 2 hours a week), but was able to take a sneak peak. I got the chance to introduce myself to the teacher today and talk to her a bit. She's warm, welcoming, and very easy to talk to. I also love the high level of professionalism of her business--very important to me. Online registration and payment are available online and confirmation is sent via email, which makes enrollment very convenient. FYI, she's currently a high school teacher in a different town and has to commute. Gotta admire her dedication! Luckily, we live close by. Students who get the chance to study under her are fortunate. Imagine, if you will, a light saber. Now shrink it, focus it, and make it a precision handheld device. Congratulations - in your mind's eye, you're now wielding a plasma cutter, which is a real tool you can learn to use and put to effective metal-working use after a workshop here - I did just that during a Weekend Welding Workshop and it was tough to wipe the grin off my face for quite a long time. While that might make for some of the coolest visual imagery to describe, the fact that metal grinders, MiG welders, age-old anvils, fine-gauge jewelry-making tools, ceramic works, and myriad other tools of the trade are waiting to be discovered and shared here is a great impetus to get people excited about the art and science of metal-working. The Yard recognized that and has worked hard over the years to forge the foundation, expand the awareness base, and reach out to the community - all experience levels, age ranges, and walks of life. The events here are a super draw for my family and me. The Halloween Iron Pour. The Ultimate Chef competition. The Steel Yard Cruise Night Car Show. I hear there have also been weddings here...which goes to show you don't need to be actively working metal to enjoy the Yard. That said, seeing some of the custom-chopped and augmented vehicles done on-site doesn't hurt one's appetite to grab some leathers and a visor, and get working. I received a request for donation to the Yard's efforts at the end of 2012 that moved to me action in a way that words hadn't called me to in some time. That was refreshing and invigorating; it was merely (at its essence) a request for support. And support we should. The Steel Yard is an anchor helping to revitalize an area of the city that needs it with its facility location; revitalizing a city that can use those services with its good public works, as with its creation of beautiful and utilitarian benches, garbage cans, and bike racks seen around town; revitalizing people's skill sets by providing constructive classes in a variety of disciplines at fair tuition costs, for multiple age groups; and mostly, revitalizing metal-working as a discipline that is useful, positive, artistic, and tending away from defunct and back toward common. For all of that, The Steel Yard deserves our support in keeping alive The Spark. Get involved and be about it - highest recommendation.
