We were assured that it was the top of the line, so without seeing anything in person, we took the word of the sales manager and ordered it. Once it was installed (by the installer they set up for us) it was immediately evident that it was "rickety" at best. It was also an eyesore, with bright, plastic looking chrome on the handle which would have been impossible to see from the tiny thumbnail across the counter we looked at before agreeing to purchase (totally on us). But more importantly it wasn't stable. It rattles horribly when you open it. It rattles horribly when you close it. And it moves all around inside of its compartment. When we contacted the store, complete with video, we were told "no refunds," which was never disclosed during the purchase process. The receipt is emailed to you with the disclosure after you purchased the item and leave the store. The response from the manager was that this was the highest quality trash compactor on the market, despite the videos showing the contrary. He said maybe the install was dome incorrectly but his installer, who is very nice, told us that was the best he could do, so it was basically too bad for us. Buyer beware.

The problem doing this is that you must purchase a large slab, find someone to cut, finish, transport and install it. I saw The Top Shop's ad in the Lompoc Record and I went by to see if they had any remnants as I didn't need a very large piece. Greg was very accommodating and tolerant of my indecisiveness. He showed me what remnants he had that would meet my needs. Since I was having the fireplace retiled, I decided to use the same countertop material for the hearth too. He also knew someone who could do my tile work and they coordinated the project together. Greg and George do beautiful, precision work. I am so pleased with the outcome. The old hearth was terrible with chipped tile that had been painted and it wasn't level. Now I have a beautiful, sleek, level hearth with a matching countertop. Once the windows arrived, they installed 17 windows and changed a window to a beautiful set of French doors in two days. I was most impressed when he started removing two windows on either side of our fireplace. It was obvious they were NOT framed windows. Someone had glued the windows to the 2x4s and covered the edges. J managed to get them out and put in our new windows. He then built additional frame to make it look beautiful and natural. Amazing!
