Well as anyone who has ever tasted a REAL New York bagel knows, there ain't any other bagel that comes close. These bagels are better than the stodge you get in the supermarkets and they are probably as close to the real thing that you can get while still being in Edinburgh. There is a choice of just about any filling you could possibly want to go in a whole range of flavours of bagel. My favourite is Cinnamon and Raisin, washed down with a coffee. Prices aren't too bad, but as you add more and more fillings it does get quite expensive. Great if you are in Waverley Station and need to pick something up to eat on the train.

In that time I probably ate 100+ bagels here and drank 500 cups of coffee. I'll be honest and just say the coffee isn't amazing but the bagels here are next level. There's nowhere better to get a bagel in all of the UK in my humble opinion. Lots of variety and lots of toppings to choose from too. Gets very busy at lunch time because of the student crowd. What's good about this place is the sheer variety, not only of fillings to choose from but also the type of bagel itself. However, with almost 10 types of bagel to choose from, from seeded to sundried tomato to cinnamon and raisin, and the endless amount of fillings ranging from maple syrup to salami to peanut butter, the wait in the queue is often a long one. What's more, the prices aren't as cheap as you'd think. The average bagel with three fillings can cost up to £6, which in my opinion is a little excessive for a midweek grab-and-go lunch. In addition, there are only 5 tables which usually means a takeaway is your only option, which again makes the price a little less appealing especially given how many other cafés there are within 2 minutes walking distance. In theory, it's a great concept but in reality I would say it's one of those places that has been around for years and has become a bit complacent as a result. I wouldn't say avoid it, but nor would it be my first choice.

We stumbled upon aran when looking for an early breakfast spot on our last morning in Scotland, and…read moreit blessed us with the best breakfast of our entire trip. Creative, fresh, healthy, and welcoming, this place is worth a stop in Linlithgow outside of Edinburgh. We entered and walked upstairs to encounter a beautiful, airy, and modern but comfortable cafe. The friendly woman at the counter helped us with our order of a few specials from the board on the wall, along with a staple from their regular menu, a pastry, and a latte. Between the four of us, we had a yogurt bowl, two different porridges, the banana bread with yogurt, and a side of haggis, all delivered to our table by the friendly gentleman making the dishes. Everything was incredibly high quality and delicious. One of the porridge variations - which we also ordered as a yogurt bowl - had tons of fresh blueberries, sliced banana, and granola, with a touch of honey. The yogurt version was especially good, with a nicely thick Greek-style yogurt. The other porridge had matcha stirred into it and was topped with the most beautiful strawberries and a pistachio crumble, along with a touch of honey. This one was my order and was one of the best breakfast dishes I've ever had. The banana bread with yogurt was artfully plated and satisfying. My nephew wanted to have haggis before he left and enjoyed the side of it, which lives up to the chef's promise of being delicious. The coffee here was excellent as well. My latte was smooth and needed no sweetener to be enjoyable. There are also a number of high quality, local items for sale in the cafe, which would make nice souvenirs. This was a great end to our time in Scotland, the only downside being we could not be repeated customers. Hopefully we will return someday.

Their bakery case is clearly labeled with what's gluten-free, what's dairy-free, and what's vegan. We enjoyed them with an iced Americano (soya for me, oat for my partner) sitting outside in the sun at the Cross Well. While they were SUPER busy on a midweek day, the staff was friendly, patient, and went out of their way to find us to hand us our cookies and drinks when they were ready!

On our last day in Scotland, we headed in to the town of Stirling to go visit the Stirling Castle. I came across Toast on my Yelp app, and we decided that was exactly what we wanted. GPS drops you off about two doors before the actual location so continue to walk around the bend. The restaurant sits on the corner with a beautiful window view. There are a good amount of tables for the size of the space and seating you can sit to chat or as a single that looks out the window. There is a men and women's bathroom, and inside the women's restroom is a changing station for babies. The staff was very welcoming and kind, the service was fast, and the food was fresh and delicious! What an amazing find and pick. I ordered a latte, and my husband got a cappuccino. We both ordered the same breakfast which was an omelet with goat cheese and spinach. The omelet came with a small green salad, and we ordered a side of toast to split. It was the perfect amount of food. The toast taste so much better than the states. It came with a side of butter and red jam. Maybe raspberry? Whatever it was, we loved it! The goat cheese was smooth and creamy and the greens were refreshing and just plain fresh. Everything tasted better than what you would normally imagine. Breakfast isn't my favorite meal of the day, but the day we dined here it was! The location is only about a ten minutes drive from the castle. If you are in the area, I highly recommend coming here, and if we ever go back to Scotland and are close we will definitely go back as well. I wish I could pick this place up and bring it home with me.

One of the best I've ever had. I've tried the strawberry one, oreo one, another glazed one with walnuts. Mmm mm. They are light and sweet and not too greasy (which is a big problem with homemade donuts). I walk by here every time I go to the yoga studio and that is dangerous. I tried a bagel sandwich the other day that was also good, but the bagel just wasn't as crispy on the outside as I like it. I am sort of a bagel snob since I hail from New York City though, so I might be overanalyzing it. I'd likely go back and eat another because I like bagel sandwiches. The soup I tried was just meh, curry cauliflower, I found it too thin. But the donuts will definitely be my #1 item and I'll probably end up buying them every single week at this rate.

But once you enter, you'll find a quirky and hipster corridor filled with fun stickers on the walls, scrapwood tables, and creative artworks. While my friend went for the classic Monteal (£5.50) bagel, I opted for their special: The K Hole (£6), which was a bagel sandwiched with Korean pulled chicken, Asian slaw, crispy fried chorizo, and kimchi mayo. I also took a bite of the Montreal, which was a classic lox bagel --you almost can't go wrong. There are many flavors of bagel offered to choose from.
