Went for lunch at The Flame
Tree Cafe at the suggestion of our daughter on a Sunday afternoon, and how glad I was that we did! From my understanding it was opened and is run by a woman who is from Australia and sure enough, she was there, working behind the counter, which to me usually means there is going to be a high quality of standards set. (When the owner is actually on the premises and is seen working among the staff.)
The atmosphere was lively and bustling, the space bright & well-lit and the entire establishment was very clean. (Including the toilet) They were busy, but we managed to seat ourselves at a table right away & took a look at their menu which offered a decent variety of sandwiches (on different types of rolls, bagels, breads), wraps, salads, paninis, homemade soups, cakes, sweets & pastries as well as a full selection of hot and cold drinks. (Coffees, mochas, espressos, lattes, etc. etc.) You get the point. They have a large selection of vegan & gluten free selections on the menu, which are easily identifiable on the menu.
After you make your selection, you then order your food at the counter, and once it's ready, it is brought to where you are
seated.
I personally had the toasted tortilla wrap which comes with lettuce, cheese, refried beans & salsa, but I added chicken and avocado to it...It was EPIC! It came with a small scoop of purple cabbage slaw on the side (fabulous!) and I also ordered a small cup of the carrot & coriander soup (OUTSTANDING!). The perfect finishing touch was a sugar free vanilla latte (with a beautiful heart design on top made out of the frothy milk!) which was creamy and tasted so good, I couldn't believe it was sugar free (I even asked again just to verify)! It was the best sugar free vanilla latte I have ever had in my coffee drinking lifetime!
My partner ordered the tuna wrap and soup and our daughter ordered the hummus & lentil sandwich with soup as well; they both were extremely pleased with their meals as well. However, they both tasted my tortilla wrap and agreed it may have taken first place at the lunch table that afternoon! (I know at least my partner had "tortilla wrap envy" the rest of the afternoon!)
One of the coolest things I saw at The Flame Tree Cafe was their unique "Rainbow Bagels". Per my daughter, they taste like regular bagels, but the look of them are out of this world! I have posted a picture attached to this review.
If I could give The Flame Tree Cafe 10
Stars, I would...this place is a hidden gem on quirky Exchange Street in DUNDEE & I can't recommend it enough. read more
