The shop has a huge variety of paninis to choose from. From your ordinary turkey and ham to cajun chicken to a seafood combo. Being from California, I love seafood so naturally i was drawn to the seafood combo. My panini was loaded with shrimp, crab meat, tuna, and seasonings. I absolutely loved it. The portion was very large and it comes with vegetable add-ons. My B/F had the cajun chicken and thought it was lovely as well. I am a fan because unlike some panini shops I have been to before, this place does not act posh or pretentious. Downside, it is not open for very late, closes around 6pm, and isn't open on the weekends. Otherwise, the prices are moderate and the sandwiches are delicious.

From the roadside it looks to have been a former failed petrol station, replaced with a sort of hut selling sandwiches & baguettes. From their menu boards they sell breakfast rolls and filter coffee, even though there are no facilities to eat inside there is a seating area out the back, four breakfast rolls, two coffee's & a juice was a little short of £20. This shop was one of the few eateries that we saw on our way home.

First: we had to wait 15 minutes, but were given a buzzer for when our table was ready--per the hostess, we were able to go as far as the grocery store in town. We didn't mind the wait, as it gave us time to pop into the tourist shop and buy postcards and stamps. The wait was worth it! I had a coffee, one of the best coffees I've ever had, and we sat enjoying the view of the mountains and the view of the pastries, piled in tantalizing piles on the far end of the shop. We each had a roll, mine w fried egg, bacon, and hash brown; hubby the same with sausage instead of bacon. The food was hot, fresh, and the ingredients locally sourced, and tasted so damn good. Every dish that made its way to neighboring tables looked ridiculously good too, and I kept saying I want to try that, and that, and that!! On our way out we bought a chocolate raspberry brownie and a macadamia bar, both items are rich and flavorful, and large enough that hubby and I have been enjoying them all day!! My wife and I came here after an exhausting weekend away with teenagers... we were a bit sceptic as to whether or not there was decent food in Aviemore. We were told that we would need to get there as early as possible because of the wait... and we were like, this is an outdoor shop's cafe, it couldn't be that good. Well it is THAT good. As I said, you will more than likely have to wait (got this advice from a local)... and you could end up waiting for at least half an hour as we did. We finally got seated and were impressed with the menu thinking that the food couldn't be as good as it seems on the menu. But it was THAT good. I had a red bean burger (if I'm correct) that was SOOO tasty. They make the burgers here (not frozen like veggie burgers at other places). It may have easily been one of the best veggie burgers I've had in Scotland. It came with chips, which I wish I could've had more of but wouldn't have had the room for. To top it off, I had a pot of Eteaket tea with Red Velvet cake. So... a lot of places in Scotland try to do a great Red Velvet cake and end up with an OK red velvet cake. Mountain Cafe did an excellent red velvet. Both moist and dense. Sweet and SOOO filling. In the end, my wife had to roll me out the door and down the stair sideways. I was super full with excellent food. It may have cost a bit more than I would've normally paid for lunch, drink and a cake... but seriously I didn't care. Why isn't Aviemore closer?

Especially when our tour operator informed usthey had a "Whiskey and Raspberry" flavor. I mean, come on! And then when we got there, I ended up getting a doblé scoop because they also have a "Scottish Tablet" flavor. I'm not even sure what that is, but it sounded Scottish, so I'm in! McKenzie's is a small little shop, and they offer other items besides ice cream, but that was all I was there for, so that was all I got. And I was very pleased with my selections. Rich creamy ice cream that absolutely hit the spot after a wonderful day of exploring beautiful Scotland. I think just about everyone from our bus went to the shop for an ice cream tree, but the service was very fast and they were friendly as well. I don't even know how to pronounce the town's name (Pitlochry), but if you ever find yourself in that region area, you should definitely treat yourself to a delicious ice cream treat!

The deli counter is the best- there are not many places like this in Dundee and its great to be able to get freshly made up sandwiches that arent of the Greggs ilk:) THe homemade soup is also great, and available in take away cups which is a great idea. Staff are all really friendly, always have a bit of a chat with them. Altogether a great place!

I also had the chance to try out the chicken sandwich, which is arguably the best takeaway sandwich in town. It's real chicken breast with sauces and salad.
