Fish and chips. Something I just can't get enough of whenever I'm back in the UK…read more We visited Mr. Chips going off a recommendation from some family members when we were back visiting Aberdeen. It is right in the Rosemount area so it's pretty convenient if heading into city centre. We stopped in for a cheeky chipper lunch before doing a bit of shopping/wandering around town. The place is immaculately clean, almost sterile seeming with it's polished steel surfaces and digital menu. While not a cosy place to sit and enjoy your chips, (there's only a couple stools anyways) it's definitely better than some of the grimy chippers you find on late nights out.. The prices are right about standard, and I got the jumbo haddock dinner, it was about 8 pounds or so, and it was seriously jumbo. A lot of fish and a lot of chips, so it was a great deal for the amount. I probably shouldn't have eaten it all myself, but I couldn't resist. The fish and chips were piping hot, fresh out of the fryer, and even when we took our boxes away and walked to Union Terrace gardens before eating we still had a very hot lunch waiting for us. The breading on the haddock wasn't too greasy and had just the right amount of crispiness to it. The fries were firm and not as greasy as some chippies make em, but if they weren't greasy at all, you'd wonder what was up. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Aberdeen. Until then, I need to find a way to get fresh, hot, salty, vinegar-spritzed fish and chips in the US for a reasonable price...

It's a small business in a residential area right on the corner, you can't miss it. Despite the late hour and the staff just wanting to just close up and go home, they happily took my order and cooked the fish fresh, about a 10 minute wait. My food came out hot and soo delicious (though I was in an extremely food deprived state so probably anything would have been delicious by this point). Ample portion size, food cooked fresh and the shop is clean, I know this because I spent the 10 minute wait time watching them clean up the shop. Highly recommended, would return again.

My brother booked a table here for dinner as he loved the burger last time he had been in. On arrival the waitress gave us an option of two tables and said the one further away would be next to a large party of 8. So we opted for the quieter table. For a Wednesday in the middle of January the place was quite full. There are large tables round a fire near the bar which would be lovely for some drinks or coffee during the day. The menu changes quite often according to my brother, based on ingredients and seasonality which is always a good thing. I had some incredible yoghurt and chickpea falafels. My brother ate his 3 scallops before the plate was practically put down, I then scoffed his bulgur wheat. Mum loved her salmon. For main I had seabass with potato gnocchi was light and well seasoned. The burger my brother had was definitely homemade with a serious amount of meat put into it! I shared the STP with Mum, because you can't turn down an STP ever.

Kind of in a basement of one of the buildings on Queens Terrace. Though not nearly as stuffy as that sounds. Walk down the flight of steps and into the bar area. They use the lighting well because as you walk in everything is bright and open. Polished granite bar with the tap towers right in front. They will have a cask every once in a while. I think it is always something from Timothy Taylor. A small, but nice scotch selection of various Duncan Taylor offerings. Some booths in the bar area, then a dinning area towards the back. Very open and modern. The exposed, ancient granite walls is a perfect counter to the modern set up of the place as well. The service is always friendly, and for lunch they are particularly quick. Lots of business people in and out at lunch time, so they know how to keep up the ticket times. Though if you are in no rush, that is not a problem either. Open for breakfast, lunch, and diner on most days. Though closed on Mondays. Anyway, the food is excellent. Freshly prepared and locally sourced. The menu changes with the seasons and with what is available. Wild Mushroom Risotto, hell yes. The rib eye and steaks are great, when they have smoked salmon that is a no brainer. So fresh and flavorful. A great place to have a meal, and a drink. Enjoy your time here, then head on down Queens Terrace to No 10 Tavern for a great little pub. Which is exactly what I usually do when I stop by here.

The menu, the meal, the service was faultless and we all had the same roast rib of Scotch beef. However, the stereophonic screaming of babies and toddlers was unbearable. I could see from the glances of other customers that we were not the only ones who felt that it was rather irritating. I have three grown children but I would never have taken them to a more upmarket restaurant for lunch if they were prone to that behaviour. I am sure the parents were struggling and possibly felt some embarrassment and could not enjoy their meals. There is absolutely nothing wrong with small children screaming, but it was unexpected in a restaurant of such pleasant ambiance and food.

Unusual in its setting (you hardly know it is there), the atmosphere was bustling, the service friendly and the food great. A great variety in style of dishes we had one cauliflower pakora, a couple of haggis bonbons and a bar bun, followed by a burger, a lamb shank, halibut an d curry, followed by some nice desserts. A great place to visit.

I was introduced to this restaurant about 8 years ago when I told the concierge at my hotel in…read moreAberdeen that I was craving a nice, more upscale seafood restaurant. And since my first dinner at the Atlantis Restaurant I have dined there about 12 times, each time the food has been remarkable! My suggestion is get reservations. The restaurant isn't abundantly large and is inside The Mariner Hotel, so it fills up quite quickly. Their wine list is small, but it's nice. Nothing too fancy, and the wait staff has always been helpful in guiding me toward some delicious alternatives to pair with my meal. I prefer seafood over beef, but many of my colleagues and dinner companions have ordered and have always raved about the beef. The Atlantis usually have some very delicious fish and beef specials and if there is a Scottish Salmon entree that is what I order and have never been disappointed. Also, their dessert selection is small, but delicious. The service is always very good -- which if you haven't been to Scotland, the service in Scotland is much better than England -- however, I have found some incredible restaurants in England, too. My only complaint is the atmosphere. The tables and chairs are kind of casual and made of light wood -- perhaps Oak -- and the window treatments, carpet and furnishings don't seem to "do it" for me. It's like the restaurant personality and the menu don't go together. But if you can look past the burgundy, blue and gold color pallet I promise your palette won't be disappointed.
