Fish and chips. Something I just can't get enough of whenever I'm back in the UK.
We visited Mr. Chips going off a recommendation from some family members when we were back visiting Aberdeen. It is right in the Rosemount area so it's pretty convenient if heading into city centre. We stopped in for a cheeky chipper lunch before doing a bit of shopping/wandering around town.
The place is immaculately clean, almost sterile seeming with it's polished steel surfaces and digital menu. While not a cosy place to sit and enjoy your chips, (there's only a couple stools anyways) it's definitely better than some of the grimy chippers you find on late nights out..
The prices are right about standard, and I got the jumbo haddock dinner, it was about 8 pounds or so, and it was seriously jumbo. A lot of fish and a lot of chips, so it was a great deal for the amount. I probably shouldn't have eaten it all myself, but I couldn't resist. The fish and chips were piping hot, fresh out of the fryer, and even when we took our boxes away and walked to Union Terrace gardens before eating we still had a very hot lunch waiting for us. The breading on the haddock wasn't too greasy and had just the right amount of crispiness to it. The fries were firm and not as greasy as some chippies make em, but if they weren't greasy at all, you'd wonder what was up.
I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Aberdeen. Until then, I need to find a way to get fresh, hot, salty, vinegar-spritzed fish and chips in the US for a reasonable price... read more
