I had a really disappointing experience at this store today. My friends and I came in planning to buy some NeeDohs, but before we could even look around properly, we were told to leave just because we were laughing and talking. We weren't being disruptive, breaking anything, or bothering anyone -- just having a normal conversation while shopping. It felt super unwelcoming and honestly pretty rude. If a store doesn't want teenagers/customers inside unless they're completely silent, they should probably make that clear at the door. First of all, when Yelp posted this they still had my old address. I changed it, but I want to make clear that I live in Larchmont, NY. This store is just a short walk from my home, and they sell lots of nice cards and toys, so in the past I have not minded paying their "shop local" higher prices. However, they don't give you an itemized receipt unless you ask, and when I asked for one today (when I had a total that seemed too high) it did not have descriptions of the items, just a list of prices. When I compared the prices to prices on what I had bought, I saw that they overcharged me on three items. When I called them after I discovered this, I was told they don't process refunds on credit card sales. I may go back to try to get what I'm owed, but otherwise I won't go back again. read more

I've been shopping at The Corner Store since the 90s. They are NEVER rude nor do they ever make you uncomfortable. They go out of their way to assist you. I would assume those who considered them "rude" it was because those customers were disrespectful and expected the staff to take their entitled attitude. The Corner Store is overpriced and the only variety store in its part of Larchmont, an unfortunate combination for residents. Its central location in western Larchmont at the intersection of Chatsworth and Palmer (very near the Larchmont train station) put it at a very convenient location, which the owners have taken advantage of. Almost everything is marked up to right below the threshold at which people will no longer buy items because they're so pricey. The cashiers and other staff have been disrespectful and rude at times, but recently some have been friendly. It continues to stay in business because of its location and because people won't walk half a mile east down Palmer to CVS, which is more affordable. read more

I tried to return a fan I purchased that was defective (it never turned on). As it had been hot that week and the power was intermittent in Larchmont (which was irrelevant to me because my home has a generator), the owner accused me of trying to scam him by returning the fan. When I tried to explain that I purchased it for my son's college dorm, and that we were just unpacking everything for his trunk and trying the fan out, he continued to berate me in front of my neighbors. I was shocked and sad. The week prior, I had spend $180 there on college supplies for my son. I will be back to shopping on Amazon I guess. I won't be insulted and accused of fraud particularly after I tried so hard to "shop local." read more

The staff is beyond rude! An employee rushed up to me while I was picking an anniversary card and told me to take what I have and leave because she doesn't want this many people in the store. There was a total of maybe 6 other people in the store, none of which were in my aisle nor the aisle next to me. I've heard the staff was rude and are constantly accusing people of stealing. I initially took my 15 year old nephew in Because of his fear of their chronic stealing accusations. This Palmer store has a wide array of useful things- stationery, school and office supply, great magazine selection, and many other doodads. My kids liked the penny candy when they were younger. Prices are always higher in a high rent district. But the cost of having yet another empty storefront seems a worse cost to bear. I give local shops my business whenever I can. This is a convenient local variety store with friendly staff in Larchmont. It is perfect for when you need it right now. They have a surprisingly wide variety of items from poker chips to Legos to Pokemon cards and magazines and lottery tickets. Of course you will pay a little extra for convenience which is okay by me since I always have a choice to visit the corporate big box store or Amazon online. I am a little surprised by some of the older negative reviews here on Yelp. I guess the Internet has a negative bias with most happy customers not bothering to post. Never go in here with children. I was in here looking for cards for my friends birthday and as I was about to pay the man walked up to me and told me to come look at the cards. He yelled at me for messing up the cards when earlier a older women came in and messed up the cards herself. I was flabbergasted and stood there not knowing what to say. The customer service here is non existent. I purchased a faulty board game here for my kids and when I asked to exchange it, the cashier examined the game and then said it was my problem and that I should just "play it anyway." When I pressed that this seemed unreasonable, she told me I would have to come back another time when the manager was there. She was curt and rude. I will not be giving this place any more business. Please take the 5 min drive up to Miller's for games/toys, it is SO much better and a true Mom and Pop. Miller's knows how to treat a customer and how to keep one. the Corner Store in Larchmont is extraordinary! while i certainly do miss the Larchmont Store with its quaint charm the Corner Store is beyond compare! the selection is phenomenal and if the item you are seeking is not available the owner is most accomodating and will special order! In a town of residents who are notoriously difficult to please the Owner and his wife greet each and everyone with a smile and 'how may I help you'........... it is always a pleasure to stop in whether for a humdrum necessity or that special something I know I can find it at the Corner Store! read more
