I've lived here for three years now. The only reason I've stayed is because moving is such a hassle and the location is awesome. So I'm toughing it out for a few more months until I buy a place. Management (Berkshire) is terrible, as many residents have stated below. They are slow to respond and like the person with the door frame issue mentioned below, they are always "ordering" parts. The hot tub and grills stay broken. We live by the pool and see people daily trying to use the grill. We've reported the grills countless times, but they are always "waiting on parts to come in" apparently. What's worse is that they sensor the community portal where residents discuss these issues. So they take down any negative remarks that are posted. Our car has also been broken into here. The 1 security guard they have is not enough and not to mention, he doesn't pay attention to what is going on at all. We also had to call CenterPoint about a gas leak recently. CenterPoint had quite a difficult time with the maintenance guy, who said he would tend to the leak in the morning! CenterPoint was very upset with his reaction as were we, so fortunately they cut the gas off. The CenterPoint guy told us that they were just out here a month ago dealing with the same issue. Not good... Dog poop is everywhere. Halls are usually dirty. Gates and key fob entries break often. I could go on, but hopefully you get the point. I wouldn't lease here unless you're desperate. read more

My boyfriend and I have lived here for over a year. Yesterday our AC went out and the manager Erin made sure that maintenance came out to fix it promptly. She even called me to make sure I was awake before he came over! Erin and the leasing office is very attentive to their residents. The resident events are fun too! read more

I have lived at the Core for six months now and overall, I am really happy with the price I pay and what I get for it. Things I love: - Location - Driving ten minutes to work is worth very much to me. Plus, having access to a lot of great places to eat and drink means we spend a lot less money on Ubers and parking. - Apartment - The size of our apartment (one bedroom) is perfect. Double vanity sinks, a kitchen that allows me to host parties, and a great little office nook. The patio is a good escape and the closet is big and easy to organize. The square footage we have for what we pay for is a really great deal. I advise to check apartment prices every week, because sometimes they go down in price and you can lock that price in months before your move in date. - Staff - I have never had a negative interaction with management or staff. In fact, every time I've had an issue or problem, they have been very accommodating and kind. Things that I don't love: - Security - Our apartment was broken into a few months ago and it was definitely scary. But it honestly made us more aware of our surroundings, setting the alarm, and installing a StrikeMaster door frame reinforcement (http://www.homedepot.com/p/StrikeMaster-II-Door-Frame-and-Hinge-Reinforcement-55724/202076114) which the management totally supported, and reimbursed us for. With recent car break ins and theft, we've gone extra steps to try and ensure the safety of our cars. But it definitely bothers me that we don't have a secure garage. As someone who fully intended on renewing my lease, I'm struggling with the decision now because of the safety in the garage. To address a few things from other reviews: - Noise - I don't really feel like I notice excess noise at all. Maybe I'm lucky, but I've never lost sleep over a neighbor in any direction or the pool. That being said, the pool definitely echos (my patio faces it), but it is mostly during the day and even at night no one has music going or is overly disruptive. I'm actually surprised at how mellow this pool is during the weekend summers. - Management - Honestly, theft and break-ins happen everywhere in Houston. We have one of the highest crime rates in the US. People were shot at during a drive-by at Kung Fu a few months ago. However, I think that blaming management isn't really the answer. Should they install cameras? Absolutely, and it is my understanding that they have in some areas and are expanding it. Should the security guy be more useful? Yes, and he now roams around the whole parking garage every Thurs. Fri. and Sat. night. Should management answer concerns and be more vocal about their plan to fix things? Yes and yes! So still trying to decide on whether to renew lease, but it'll depend on how security changes in the next few months. I've read some of the negative reviews about the management/staff and honestly, I haven't had the same experience. I've lived at the Core for over two years and have nothing but positive things to say about my interactions with the staff. They're responsive, polite, and fair, which is an improvement over my prior apartment experiences. In the two areas where I depend on the staff the most - package handling and maintenance requests - they're great. In the time that I've been here, they've updated their package system to provide email updates when packages arrive, which is helpful. And maintenance requests are usually completed within the same day or the day after, followed by an email asking for feedback on the service provided. Every apartment complex has its shortcomings, but to be fair, the staff at the Core is not one of them. In fact, they're one of the main reasons I renewed. read more

The Good: * The apartments are spacious, and fairly nice. * Competitively priced for the area * The leasing staff is extremely friendly and personable. They are the most redeeming thing about the entire property in my opinion. The Bad: * I moved in on MLK Day in January. I confirmed this with the office, drove 5 hours with all my stuff and then the office was closed. We had to have emergency maintenance come and let me into my apartment, about 3 hours after I arrived. * My dryer didn't work when I moved in. I had to put in at least 3 different maintenance requests and go to the office to get it fixed. * The trash rooms are frequently left open and cause basically the whole building to smell like trash. *Cars broken into in the parking garage. *Someone got mugged in the parking garage. *Dog poop. If you have a puppy, or plan on getting one, give this place a wide berth. When you go outside, the grounds have dog poop every few feet. This may sound hyperbolic. It is not. My puppy got giardia, which is a parasite spread through fecal contamination. This cost me over $500 in vet bills, but we're finally past it. I can't say for sure that this is due to the poor maintenance of the grounds, but I'm also not not saying that. * Broken glass all over the grounds, to further make walking the dog problematic. * Dog waste in the halls. On multiple occasions, there has been dog poop/urine in the hall. The waste will be there for days on end, and it's pretty disgusting. * If you live here, you don't have to follow leash laws, because "we're dog friendly". * There was a weekend where we didn't have emergency maintenance on site. Someone had a family emergency and rather than cover the vacancy, the residents had to just deal with floods and other emergencies on their own. * Recently I was sexually harassed directly outside the apartment building. The offender promptly walked over to the maintenance team who was in the maintenance room and went and started chatting them up like old friends. * Finally, I've raised all of these concerns with management, but they don't have the time or willingness to follow-up with me, despite telling me they would. TLDR; Decent property, competitively priced, but grounds are very poorly maintained, as are the hallways. Management is not receptive to complaints. Got sexually harassed by someone directly outside the property, management does not care. read more

I moved into the Core about 18 months ago, and unfortunately I am very disappointed in my experience. IT IS NOT SAFE HERE First, the parking garage is NOT secure. During my first month here, I awoke one morning to find about 7 cars in our garage on blocks, with their tires stolen and windows shattered. During our time here, my brother's car has been broken into, as has mine on 3 separate occasions. A woman here reported someone breaking into her apartment at 2PM WHILE SHE WAS SLEEPING. Management's solution is to send out a letter advising residents to "be safe". Despite complaints and large criminal activity, the management refuses to do anything about it other than the occasional security guard and some locks on the garage doors which are already broken. All requests to install some security cameras in the garage area on different floors have been ignored. Secondly, ants and roaches are HUGE problem. People leave trash out by their door, and it attracts all sorts of critters. One tenant even complained about mice! Finally, the managers/owners of the property don't care about the needs of the tenants. You'd think with the money you lay out for a place on Washington, they would be sympathetic to real problems. But instead of listening and correcting problems, they placate you and give the standard corporate shoulder shrug. This place is NOT WORTH the money you spend. There are better properties in the area for the price. read more

The apartments are okay and the pricing is even more solid, but the office staff is not helpful and they have an "out to get you" attitude...definitely not something you want in a landlord. Also, be prepared to come home to an unexpected mess and contractors at work. I recently came home from a vacation and my entire bathroom was taped up and papered off. Apparently the landlords thought it was okay to enter and schedule work without calling me. On top of that they did not complete the job. After notifying them about the problem they tried to turn it around and blame it on me. Took them 2 additional business days to resolve the issue and they never even apologized. Also, the hallways are always dirty and covered in dog poop, the trash shoot rooms smell terrible, the trash service you are forced to pay for is spotty at best, their is tons of crime, sketchy people are always hanging around late at night, the pool is always crowded, and the overall service is terrible. If I had to do it again, I would pay more to live elsewhere...the Core is bad place to live. Counting the days til I get outta my lease. read more

We lived here twice, we moved away for an overseas assignment and then moved back in after returning home. The first time we loved it and the second stint we had a very negative experience! Unfortunately the complex was taken over by a new property management company and it the new management was horrendous. It used to be a nice, clean place with respectful and courteous neighbors and staff. It has turned into a dump, we made several complaints for dog poop in the hallways and management didn't seem to care. Maintenance was friendly but severely understaffed and not dispatched punctually; we had reoccurring issues with our sink and dishwasher backing up and even had to clean up the filth and sludge ourselves a few times when it overflowed. Worst of all we felt that the management and specifically the head manager were very deceptive and misleading. They screwed us over with fines after we moved out even though we left the place cleaner than when we moved in. I would not recommend this place to anyone and would suggest looking elsewhere in the neighborhood. read more

Absolutely loved the location - perfect for everything I need or want. Very close to major highways, the bayou, and is an ideal geographical position. I have had nothing but great experiences with management and maintenance since move in. My only true complaints is the trash stinking up the hallways, and that comes and goes. You are lucky if one of the 8 gym tvs is ever working. The pool is nice and the major draw to the place. But it does get closed down on weekends for no particular reason. The walls are thin so your neighbor can get annoyed if you watch tv past 10:00 pm. read more

The management change earlier this year has really made our living experience unpleasant. I cannot speak for Berkshire Properties as a whole but the people that work at our front office are not only unhelpful, they are downright rude. New website, new e-mail, new phone numbers to call, new utilities company, new valet trash service. Changed from being able to pay by check or online to only online. Personally, I like paying by check so I may be biased but having the option must be nice for everyone! Trash pickup is only on weekdays and it's a crap shoot if they actually come. We will not be re-signing our lease and I would strongly recommend looking at any of the other dozen new apartments that have been built in the area in the past year. read more

Terrible. I lived here for a year and could not wait to get out. Management of this property is awful. I got locked out of my apartment so many times and had to pay almost $200 for a locksmith each time. That on site "security" they sold to me and my dad when I was looking for an apartment is really just a phone line. When you're in trouble you call it and they basically say "we are a third party, we can't do anything". Then they screwed me out of money for an "unclean oven" upon move out. My mother in law spent HOURS cleaning my apartment when I moved. It was spotless. A bunch of greedy no good management there. I requested they call me about 12 times and never received a call back. The most hilarious thing was they called me saying I needed to renew my lease. I had sent in writing 2 months before that I would not be renewing. I swear they do not pay attention to anything. I hate how much money I lost living in this place. read more
