SCAM ALERT If living here wasn't enough torture, the move-out charges sealed it. They want to charge for a total floor replacement, when it was left intact. They provided no proof, no invoices, nothing. Just excuses and attitude. * Old appliances, filthy hallways, and dog poop everywhere * Parking is at a completely different address * No cleaning crew, a leasing agent confessed they clean unpaid because management refuses to hire anyone * Cars are regularly broken into in the "gated" garage * No hot water for 9 months : maintenance tried, but management refused to approve the fix The manager, Earon, is wildly unprofessional. She once said, "Look I'm very nice" while forcing a treat into a random neighbor's dog ...instead of addressing my actual concerns. When I asked about the charges, she told me to "go to court". Please know they are unethical, and Earon is teaching her employees very conning business practices. They will go out of their way to impress you when you are looking for an apartment; however, they are immoral and shady once your lease is up. I had to dispute the fraudulent charges they reported to the collections agency. Thankfully, I had supported emails to prove their unethical charges and great credit to prove I pay my obligations/commitments. They do the very minimum to inform you of potential charges then use the minimal effort to say they informed you. Also, the shower/bath was unable to be used for over a month after it leaked on the tenant below me for 10 months (which she reported when I first moved in but they didn't do anything about it until I moved out). They also did a walkthrough a day or two after my lease was done, but they continued to charge me rent after APPROVING me to return the keys upon my return to town even though I offered to overnight the keys to avoid being charged. Be sure to get Earon's (top manager) approval and not any other managers because she is the one that will swindle you. Look how many times her name alone is mentioned in negative reviews. Lastly, the lack of security and non working cameras in the parking garage make for constant break-ins. My sister's car was stolen off the first floor next to building 2 mail room and dog park (in view of the "pretend" cameras), which is when I found out the cameras actually don't work. read more

I have had issues with my A/C unit before and previously have been told that "that's just the way it is". Now that we are in the hottest month of the year (August), I am having so many more issues. The lowest my A/C has been able to handle in the last few days is 78 degrees. Last night, it wouldn't go below 82 (it was only 85 outside). Originally, the property manager had blamed it on being on the top floor. But once I spoke to other residents on the top floor and they confirmed they were not having issues, I told her and she began saying, "well, that doesn't matter, it's because it is hot outside." She then proceeded to send me an email with a link about how much an A/C unit can actually handle, where at the top it states an A/C unit should be able to handle a 20 degree difference. You don't need a phd to know that the difference between 85 and 83 degrees is significantly less than 20. She told me that if the maintenance guy can't figure out what is wrong with it, then it is what it is and I will just have to live with it. I pay over $100 in electricity (for their smallest one bedroom at 721 sq ft) to have my apartment not be able to go below 80 in the middle of the night? I attached images of my email to her the night it wouldn't go below 82 and her email back, brushing me off completely. Any conversation I have had with her in regard to my A/C devolves into her belittling me about my concerns and stating "it's just hot outside." For the record, I am an adult who has lived on my own at 6 different apartment complexes, many of which were top floor units. I had issues with my fan for months and put many work orders in. I had to post a review on their page for the property manager to contact me and finally have it fixed. Emailing the general property email is pretty much useless, I am lucky if I get a response. Also, on multiple occasions, my front door has been left unlocked. Whether it was maintenance or the contractors they have coming out, my door has just been left open for anyone to come in. With the doors from the garage to the building hallways just being left open, anyone can come in and make themselves at home in your apartment. I had a work order taken care of right after I went out of town (I know this because that was when the work order was marked complete) and came home a whole week later to my door unlocked, lights on, and the AC blowing at 70 even though I put it at 78 when I left. From the day I first scheduled a tour until move-in day 3 weeks later, leasing agent Rene was extremely personable, informative, and helpful. My roommate and I moved into the Core after graduating from Rice to start our first jobs. The apartments were slightly cheaper compared to many other places in the area but it has been a nightmare to deal with the property managers (Earon Hunt and Kenneth Luckett) at the Core. On several occasions we had WATER LEAKING through the living room ceiling into the HVAC closet (in an area that already had water damage painted over when we moved in). We reported this to Earon but the repairs were not properly handled and MOLD began to grow in the HVAC vents. When we first reported the mold, they denied that there was any. We then hired a mold inspector who CONFIRMED the presence of MOLD SPORES in the HVAC vents. We emailed the property managers several times because we are working from home in the middle of a pandemic that attacks the respiratory system and I had already started experiencing horrible allergies. Instead of making any repairs, Earon and Kenneth kept pushing us to move out. We asked them to work with us to move into another apartment at the same rate, but they gave us no feasible option to do so. All of this while I am feeling sick and DURING A PANDEMIC. Now that we have jumped through so many hoops and wasted a ton of extra money to move out unexpectedly due to the lack of repairs, Earon and Kenneth continue to charge us rent for an apartment that is a health hazard and that we have vacated since we had no other option. Earon even THREATENED us by saying that our CREDIT SCORE will be negativitely affected if we don't pay the next months rent even though she already has our keys and the apartment is completely empty. The apartment is even up for rent already-apt 1228. On top of all of this, the halls are constantly dirty with dead bugs, dog poop, vomit, etc. There are also ants/termites and roaches even though we are paying for pest control. And the leasing office tries to charge people extra fees in any way possible. They don't care about the tenants at all. They just care about making money. As a Rice Alum and as a consultant at Accenture, I cannot recommend the Core apartments to anyone who cares about their health or their credit score. I believe in honest reviews. I know other people will spend $20,000+ of their hard earned money for their lease term and want to know what they're getting into. I live next to the pool, and the walls/ windows here have no sound insulation. I've submitted 7 noise complaints so far and have received no reply. I don't think there are any courtesy officers here. So, I usually just have to go outside and ask my neighbors to turn the music down. As a healthcare provider who works odd hours, it's been very stressful. I had to wake up at 5am yesterday for my 12 hour shift. I got to wake up at 1am to my neighbor partying by the pool. It was great read more

I have been a resident here since November of 2017. This is by far the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in. Every issue we have had has been handled completely incompetently. They care more about throwing events and emailing about food trucks and free beer than actually making sure the residents have their units in order. Our A/C has been malfunctioning for weeks and I have just had to stay here the last 5 days without A/C in the whole unit. They were only able to install one wall unit in one of the rooms, but in the middle of summer in Houston, one wall unit is not sufficient enough to keep a room an acceptable temperature. I had to stay in a hotel for one of the nights because it was completely unbearable. I am on medical leave and I am saving money, so I couldn't do more than that, otherwise I would have. Just this moment, I was taking out my trash, and the handle lock locked behind me from when one of the maintenance guys left. We NEVER lock the handle lock, so I didn't check it before leaving. One of the leasing people happens to live next to me, which I didn't even know. I knocked on the door, desperate because I had just locked my phone, my keys and everything in my apartment, so I didn't even have a phone to call maintenance. I just wanted to use their phone. I knew someone lived in the unit because when I work from home, I hear dogs barking throughout the day. I didn't go there looking for staff, I went there looking for someone with a phone. She popped out of the unit to my surprise and told me, "I am not happy that I have to go to the office and get your keys and it's after hours." Here I am, sweating my ass off in the unit right next door to you, battling maintenance for weeks and I have never knocked on her door for anything. Hell, I didn't even know she lived there. But she was very rude to me, very curt with me. Other than the simple fact that I'm battling a lot, the one place a person should be able to go to for solace is their home and my home has been a literal hell for almost one full week. We've had no updates, we've had no calls. We have to go down to the office to figure out what's going on with the A/C because they just close the work orders on us with no explanation. And this isn't even the first thing. None of those issues, however annoying they were to deal with, were as terrible as having our A/C broken without a fix for weeks in the middle of the summer in Houston, Texas and then, being treated like dog poop for doing something I didn't even ask her to do. The ONLY thing that makes writing posts like this difficult is that the people I have spoken with have been very, very nice. The maintenance guy is super cool, Madison-Kate is very bubbly and nice, they have a new lady that's very nice. But niceness can only get you so far when your resident is in an apartment that is hotter than the devil's armpit. I will not be renewing with this property. I see lots of positive reviews here, and I wish I could be one of them. I am in school, I work a full time job in the tech industry, I am battling an illness and I have a lot going on. I don't have the time or patience to carry hate or malice in my heart. The location is great, the pricing is a bit high, but reasonable for the area and the amenities are up to par with what you'd expect from a property. EDIT: The property manager has taken steps to remedy the issue. Our A/C is now working as it was before. Two months to fix the issue, but we're good now. I've been a resident at The Core for just about a year now, and I can honestly say it meets my needs. Granted, every apartment complex has its share of problems, and The Core is no different, but for me the pros far outweigh the cons. Pros: Amazing area located near everything I possibly need (stores, bars, gym, my work, etc.). Very well priced for the area (I searched extensively and The Core was at about $50/month discount on average vs. other properties here) The amenities are great, I enjoy the main pool, the lap pool, the hot tub, pool table, the gym, and the outdoor grills with the TV. Staff have all been very helpful in my experience, maintenance orders are typically filled within 24 hours. Cons: Break-ins of cars happen periodically, but there's only so much The Core can be held responsible. We live in Houston and in a particularly high trafficked area...criminals know this. Any many people are foolish enough to leave valuable things in their cars, so it's tough to be too overly sympathetic. There's also a lot of dog poop on site, which again is more the residents' fault than The Core's. But who knows, maybe they could devote more maintenance time to cleaning it or something. Overall, it's a great complex that's VERY WELL PRICED compared to surrounding places and for me that's a strong selling point. I'll give up the concierge or fancy spa to save $200+ per month. The Core meets all my needs and has been an awesome place to live! read more

I have consistently experienced the best residential support services of my life with the Core. The staff are friendly and helpful, and always have a smile on their faces. Anytime and every time I have submitted a maintenance request, I've received a prompt response - and the issue has been resolved within a day (although often it's within a few hours!). Whether it was changing light bulbs, replacing/removing furniture, or servicing the plumbing and electricity, maintence quickly and thoroughly ensured that I have an optimal living environment. I intend to continue renting from The Core for the until I decide it's time to buy a home, and I strongly recommend their properties to all; the neighborhood is safe, the community friendly, you couldn't ask more of the staff, and the central location of the Washington Core complex (near so many many highway arteries of the city) makes it a sought after location. In some ways, a property management company can make or break the living experience, but with The Core, it's honestly four stars in the service. I couldn't be happier with my present accommodations and happily recommend it :) read more

The managers at the Core went above and beyond to fix the situation from our last visit. We were assured that a miscommunication with their answering service is what caused it all. They said it has never happened before and that they've taken steps to prevent it from happening in the future. The assistant manager, Chandler and the manager, Erin have been easy to reach in a reasonable time frame and have answered every question we had. Since we've met them the entire staff has been friendly and knowledgeable. We were about to sign a lease with another apartment complex, but good management is one of the top things we look for in an apartment. The Core made an honest mistake, took responsibility, and found a solution. That's a management team I can live with! My fiancé and I are so excited to move in here next month! read more

My friend lives here, and it's very spacious. It was built only a year or two ago and is cited as being a sort of up-and-coming place in an up-and-coming neighborhood. I think they tried really hard to make the place look modern, especially common areas. They used oversized decor in sort of a burnt orange/red color. For Houston, maybe this is cool, but for a New Yorker such as myself, I think their idea of modern, or just of style in general, is a little late 90s Cracker Barrel. The hallways are so open and wide you can hear yourself echo. The receptionist is nice and offish at the same time - kind of strange. They have pools, a gym, a pool table, and a 24/7 coffee machine that is free...a definite bonus. There is not much air flow or space in the gym. They do have fans, but not having the windows open only means the fans are pushing the sweat smell around the room faster. They could definitely stand to clean the gym more often or at least spray some Febreeze when nobody is using it. There are 2 water fountains in there that are constantly covered with white spots from people's sweat. I know it's a gym, after all, but the receptionist is sitting there starring out the window enough that she could go wipe some things downs in there.There also isn't much space to just lie around and do stretches. There are TVs at most of the machines, but no batteries in the remote controls. There are TVs all over the place in the common areas that are turned on that noone is watching - kind of gives me some insight into the amount of rent they're charging. There is an elevator, but it is not centered in the building, so if you live at the other end, you wind up taking the stairs all the time, which is great for excercise, but they built the stairs outdoors, and it is freezing in Winter. The garbage chutes are in a separate room, presumably to minimize the smell into the hallways, but this grand idea just backfired because I am guessing they use this fact as reason not to maintain them. Again, I know they are garbage chutes, after all, and they are not going to smell like roses and fresh fruit, but I don't see anybody doing anything to maintain them or minimize the smell. There also is no recycling, which is typical of this part of the country, but in a place going for a modern look and appeal, they really should get on board with recycling. Some of the reviews I've seen for this place note that the common areas light up at night, and lots of people are there being social. This is simply not true, unless it only happens in the Summer, but it's definitely a good set-up and a good try. I hope the intention eventually catches-on. I think my friend is the first one in the apartment. They still haven't hooked up the water hose to the dishwasher, and he is too busy at work to even remember to tell them about it, and now the dishes are piling up, lol. On another note, there is nothing modern about the inside of the apartment. The shower doesn't have any unique features, there are no gadgets, the fridge doesn't serve water and ice on the outside of the door (although the inside of the freezer does have a noisy ice maker that will wake you up at night if you forget to turn it off before you go to bed). This was a crititical review so far, but the place of course has its positive sides. It is very large. The doors are tall enough for the tallest human on earth (although they didn't think very hard about which sides the hinges should be put on), there are lots of closets (for one of them, "walk-in" doesn't do it justice - it's larger than the office), and the best part of all is that there is a washer and dryer in each individual apartment. There is plenty of cupboard space (although much of it is above the stove and gets spots after cooking with covers even once - just from the steam, etc.), and the countertop is marble, although I can't help but add that it's the ugliest possible marble they could have picked out. The lights are pretty, and there is a spotlight set-up in the kitchen area looking to be from Ikea but it is nowhere near bright enough to reach the living/dining room area, and the light there is left severely inefficient, to say the least, which is annoying in light of the wasted electricity on the unwatched TVs in the common areas. The place is also remarkably quiet, I must say. There is a covered parking garage - you might save on your car insurance for that. There is usually one or two parking spaces left on the the street. The neighborhood leaves much to be desired. For someone who wants a lot of space and who doesn't have a really keen eye for what kinds of modern style are overplayed and long since passed by, but who just wants the "oh, ah" effect during the priceless first 7 impression seconds of a place, this is your place. read more

Don't live here! this past weekend 4 cars got broken into on the 3rd floor of the garage and one truck got STOLEN out of the garage. That was just this weekend, since I've lived here (September 2014) at least 10 cars have had their windows smashed. Management clearly doesn't care enough to spend the money to install cameras in the garage. Given the fact that there is a security guard all night at the garage gate, I wouldn't be surprised if the responsible party is actually a resident, that or some really crafty and patient criminals. We don't feel like our belongings/cars are safe anymore. At first we were just scared of break-ins but now we're afraid that our cars will get stolen right out from under us. Sad to say parking on the street would probably be safer. Don't risk your car, don't live here. Update: As if The Core wasn't already bad enough, my apartment got broken into this past weekend. Really, don't live here. JULY 6 2015 UPDATE July 4th has come and gone and things have only gotten worse. We went down to the pool in an attempt to enjoy our 4th of July, at the pool...which we pay rent for and left less than 10 minutes later because of the sheer madness that was going on. We go down to the pool at least once a week and I can safely say that I recognized 3 people out of the 100+ that were there? There were broken bottles, food was strewn around the pool area, it was LOUD and people were climbing the awning over the pool to jump off of it. I ran into other residents on the sky bridge once a fight broke out down on the street that also agreed they didn't know any of the people in the pool area. The police had to come disperse the NON RESIDENTS from the street outside our windows. Our rent isn't cheap, but it might even be justified if BASIC amenities were being provided. There are problems with the trash rooms being filthy, mice and roaches everywhere, the garage door being broken sporadically, the list goes on. Maintenance requests don't get fulfilled until a 2nd or 3rd request is submitted and moreover, I personally don't feel safe living here. Between the car break-ins, stolen cars and trespassers, I would never recommend The Core to anyone, not with the current state of things. This morning the management posted on the resident portal that "cameras are being reviewed" to access fines pertaining to the incident this weekend, which is very surprising considering that I have heard from more than one resident that after incidents of theft and property damage have happened on the property, camera footage was "not available." Our apartment was burglarized a few months ago WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING and we filed a police report. We didn't report the incident to the leasing office because another resident told me how unhelpful they were when her apartment was broken into, namely no access to video footage and no answers. Clearly, there needs to be more transparency and cooperation with the residents. Management is nice but the problem is that they are clearly understaffed coupled with a lack luster effort. Maybe corporate doesn't realize the huge liability that could have been incurred this past weekend with all the people at the pool, they are truly lucky that no one was hurt. What happened to the security cameras that were being installed in the garage? What happened to the TWO security guards that were supposed to be patrolling the garage? I haven't seen them in weeks and before they disappeared, they could often be found on the roof of the garage in their golf cart, obviously not patrolling the garage. Perhaps corporate will care about the residents of this property once their bottom line is being affected, because this property is a lawsuit waiting to happen if nothing changes. Management has also been censoring the "community portal" where we are supposed to "get connected" and "communicate" in order to keep those unaware of what is going on in the dark. I understand not wanting to scare people but censoring residents on what is technically supposed to be another "amenity" is not effective, honest or productive. Please save time, effort, money, and headaches and DO NOT LIVE HERE. Literally the only good thing about The Core is the location. read more

I've been renting apartments/houses around Houston for 6 years. Most places I've lived did have some negative reviews, you can't please everyone, but I had never had a bad experience or any issues with management. So, I chose to ignore the negative reviews of The Core and I wish I had not! The first month I lived here, my apartment was broken into. Do I think this is managements fault? No. Do I think they could have prevented it yes? Do I think they learned from it? No. It took one month of me nagging to get the frame of my door replaced. Eventually they told me they had made a mistake and ordered the wrong one and that was the hold up...which would have been fine if someone had just communicated that. They were very slow to respond to my emails/calls. They did install a more secure frame and covered the cost of it, which I appreciated--but honestly, it was the least they could do. Many people have said "it's Houston, break ins happen". Which is true, but I've rented lots of places in Houston that did not have theft issues-- it can be prevented. Id feel better about it if they had made any changes after that incident, but they really haven't. Nothing was done to up the security, and a few weeks later cars were broken into and a few were stolen. Some residents were discussing this in the resident web forum and I mentioned the security issue of the recent break ins and my hope that they would do something to fix it. Some residents started discussing the break ins and management deleted the entire thread in what clearly seemed like an attempt to keep word of the break ins from spreading. According to these yelp reviews, there has since been another break in. Still no added security measures. The gate breaks OFTEN and is left propped open which defeats the purpose of the one security measure we do have. My AC broke 4 times in one month. The 4th time they finally replaced whatever was causing the root problem. Many of the key clicker entries around the property don't work. I cannot enter the gym from the inside of the building, I have to walk outside and go through the pool area because the key FOBs haven't worked for a few months. I expected because of the cost of rent, that not many college students would live here. But I must be wrong because there are often people out at the pool all hours of the night during the week. I'm not talking 10pm I mean 2-3AM. It's not so much that their obnoxiously loud, it's just that it echoes so bad. I've talked to my neighbors around me and they've said say they have not heard it, so I must just be a light sleeper. I bought a fan for my room and that's helping. Management has put locks on the pool to keep people out after hours, which is nice that they did something. I guess people are climbing over? Light sleepers beware, you won't want a pool view apartment. Pros....square footage. I'm getting a decent amount of sq ft for what I'm paying--but it hasn't been worth all the headaches. The girls in the office are nice. They've always tried to help me when I've gone down to talk to them. But I think the property management issues are outside of their control. I've heard complaints from other people who have lived at Berkshire properties as well. I was so hoping to not have to move again in one year. But unless something changes drastically, I just don't see how I could stay. Save yourself the trouble--go somewhere else that is not a Berkshire property. read more

SEXIST STAFF: The people at the front desk are NEVER available. I lived there for 1 year and I never saw anyone at the front desk the entire time I lived there. When I moved out they asked for the keys to return and I sat in the lobby for nearly an hour before someone finally showed up. (Note: I was there around 4 hours after they opened). I mentioned how unhappy I was with always having to wait for someone in the leasing office and how frustrating it is that they are NEVER there. I returned the keys and left only to find out that they called my fiancé and told him what I said and ASKED HIM TO HAVE A TALK WITH ME ABOUT IT. I'm a fully grown adult woman NOT A CHILD. I spent years in property management as a leasing agent at luxury rental properties, so I have a very high standard when it comes to customer service, amenities...and the awesome team at The Core and the property itself have absolutely exceeded all of my expectations. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt like family and I KNEW I had "come home." Madison is a true rockstar... she greeted me as though we had known each other for years, and gave me a wonderful tour of the property and my beautiful new apartment. She's a true pro - Mr. Buffet, make sure she gets a fat bonus this year. And I was happy to discover as I settled in that EVERY member of the team is just as cool as she is, and willing to do whatever it takes to make you happy as a resident - Anna, Chandler, Earon are all amazing. I have been living at the Core for over a year, and I highly recommend this apartment community. Location is ideal, close to everiting you have grocery stores and restaurants in walking distance and I10 is just 2 lights away. Price is great for the amount of space these apartments have. Even their smallest 1 bedroom fits large furniture. The amenities are well kept and any request I have had has been completed very quickly. The residents I have meet are very friendly and the community is also pet friendly with a large pet park. I lived at the Core in 2011. It's a great location for young professionals. I chose the Core because I had close friends that were renting at the time. The first month someone in the parking lot hit my car (prob drunk). The front desk had video surveillance but would not share. All in all it's close to bars and restaurants. Its great if you can afford it in your early to mid twenties. It was mainly young professionals and/or law school students who liked to party. It was a beautiful apartment with stainless steel appliances and stained concrete. I ended up moving to a cheaper/older apt near work and I was much happier. read more

It's been a year since I moved to The Core. Recently, I renewed my lease and I'm happy to continue calling this place Home. The office staff and management is amazing! They are very friendly and helpful. They have gone above and beyond to help resolve concerns or issues. Management is constantly working on improving the property to make it a better place to live. The location is great and accessible to major highways and is walking distance to parks, restaurants, and bars. You would love to live here at The Core!!! :) read more

I started a yelp account solely to write a review for this apartment. We lived here for over three years because we didn't feel like moving and it was nice to be on Washington. The location is definitely great for easy access to restaurants and bars. It is also great for late night noise and frequent car break-ins. While there is a security system for the building and everyone should have key-fobs, people commonly follow others into the parking garage or through the doors into the building. We found the doors were propped open numerous times. However, that may be happening because frequently the key-fobs don't work on any of the doors and you are locked out while they wait to get someone out to fix them in the next few DAYS. The other thing that has been extrememly subpar is the response to maintenance requests. We currently have two water leaks in our ceiling that they were going to come back and fix as well as a terrible patch job over the shower. When they tried to fix the ceiling over the shower, they left all of the drywall in the tub and didn't even repaint. We also submitted multiple requests to fix the vent in the bathroom which was covered in mold and they never did anything. The complex has changed management several times in the last few years and with every change has come new fees and rules, which they often don't tell anyone. While the fees should be helping to clean the trash areas, prevent dog poop from piling up in the hallways, or fixing the safety equipment, they don't because those problems just get worse. If you are willing to live with terrible management, dog poop in the hallways, increasing fees, no maintenance workers, and loud nights, the Core Apartments may be the right place for you. Otherwise, there are tons of newer, nicer apartments with responsive management in the Washington area for the same price! read more

Maintenance is fast, apartments are very nice, and you can't beat the location. You've got the bayou, food, bars, and lots more within walking distance. Ashley, Madison, and the rest of the staff take great care of you and communication is great with community updates. As a plus, you have 2 pet parks and 2 pools onsite. I especially like the lap pool in building 2. Very excited for new package lockers being installed also. read more

I seriously love living here. I moved here from Hawaii for work and the Core is amazing. I have been here about 6 months so far and I think the staff just makes it so much better. I had an issue two weeks ago and maintenance was out that day to fix it. The only thing I wish they had was a bar bell bench press and squat rack but I understand the liability with being 24 hours. I think the reviewers below described the apartment complex very well so I will be short. Pros: the location- only 3 miles from downtown, and bus stations are right across the street Cons: *the noise (there is a night club across the street, so make sure you get an apartment on the opposite side, otherwise Thursday-Sunday sleepless nights) *the apartment leasing office is not organized, there is no certain rules or procedures to follow, so everybody do things as they desire *the security is not reliable- I hear the cars were broken all the time, and nothing was done from the apartment. * I got towed one time from parking right across the leasing office, because the street rules were so hidden. (it's partially my fault, but you barely can see the signs) * Management is not organized. I went to check my leasing end date and make sure if they have it like at least 5 times, all times they did not have in the system, and tried to charge extra for not giving my notice early- good thing I saved the copy. *honestly overpriced Also I think the reviews are here paid from the complex, because it is really not great place to live. In addition, the manager Chandler tried to add additional charges when I tried to move out: required to return parking sticker??? that is absurd. read more

Could not be happier with Core apartments on Washington Ave. Hands down the best location, with so many amenities and a first class office staff..Erin is exceptional she truly cares about the needs of the residents. All of the apartments are absolutely beautiful and very well taken care of at an affordable price. I have been very happy and would highly recommend. Most everyone living here are so nice and thoughtful. Great neighbors and great dog park with plenty of room also a pool. read more

Im moving out of state soon so unbiased and honest from my experience. First year was good and good management. Now, middle of the road at best. Location, amenities, maintenance are solid consistently. New management in the last year have noticed a difference - no cameras in garage, gate broken and stays open half the time for over a year and cars routinely getting tires stolen. Some cars actually stolen - management blames residents for lack of caution in mass emails, like we can run security? Tried to raise rent 15% for same unit, no thanks. How about hire a security guard for the small, 4 floor parking garage so someone doesnt have hours to steal tires off an entire floor? Units are outdated. Definitely lower price for a fair enough complex in the location, but would rather pay a bit more for more value in hindsight. if i were staying in Houston i would pay a bit more for better value. read more

Update: The Core has new management as of April, but we haven't seen much of a change. In fact, they had no way to report noise complaints for the entire month of April and they extended the hours for the pool. We moved out at the end of May. We had internet installed in our new apartment and I asked about the issues we had while at the Core with our internet cutting out all the time and how slow it was. The technician said it was likely bad wiring in the building, which I believe because the internet at our new place is faster than what we are paying for and doesn't cut out. We are using all the same equipment (we own our modem). Old review: I've been living here for 8 months now and I do not plan to renew my lease once it's up. I will give it this caveat - I am probably not the target demographic for this place. If you are in your 20's and single and enjoy pool parties every weekend during the summer, well then this may be the place for you. But I am in my 30's, living with my boyfriend and I have a job that I kept when I moved to Houston that allows me to work from home. Here are the reasons why we chose this place over other apartments we looked at: 1. our apartment is huge!! 2. lap pool (for those days it's too hot to run) 3. close to Buffalo Bayou and Spotts Park so we can easily go running or play basketball 4. the patio 5. lots of restaurants and other things within walking distance Those were the main reasons. Everyplace else we looked at was fairly comparable (or so we thought). One we moved in it just gradually became a long list of things we didn't like: 1. The pool. The lap pool is full of cigarette butts, and who wants to swim laps in that! 2. The patio. We thought we would use our patio all the time, but we never use it because we are on the bottom floor and the people who live above us like to throw their cigarettes, beer cans, and random other trash off their balcony. And the maintenance crew doesn't feel obligated to clean it up (can you blame them?) 3. Recycling. They tell you there's recycling but it's pretty worthless. You have to fit everything into a special blue trash bag, which isn't all that big. And you have to get these special blue trash bags from the office and they only give you 3 at a time which is ridiculous because we have far more recycling than trash and go through 3 a week!!! And because these special bags are the size of regular trash bags, if you have large boxes after moving in, or order stuff online often, you have to cut up all your boxes into small pieces to get them to fit. They have a garbage chute but it's only for garbage, so you are pretty much out of luck for recycling anything large. There used to be a recycling center a block away, but it closed recently. 5. Noise. So like I said, I am not the demographic for this apartment building. I go to bed early and I work from home, so I often feel like the cranky old man yelling at the kids to get off his lawn. We have frequently called in noise complaints on our upstairs neighbors who like to have parties. We have talked to the office about it and the most they have done is to send polite letters asking them to be quieter. It helped a little, but not much. We have the noise complaint line on speed dial. 6. Cockroaches. They formed a welcoming committee. 7. Management. Someone else commented about the receptionist being nice and offish at the same time. Completely agree that this seems to apply to most of the office staff. They seem nice but also patronizing. And the worst part is that the other review is from 2011 so I'm quite sure it's not the same person. 8. Security. Recently there have been several break-ins. I have to say I am not surprised given that the doors to the building often do not latch making the security fob features useless. Also there have been a lot of issues with the garage gates and they are often left completely open. 9. Dog crap. It's everywhere 10. Parking. People park wherever they want. Regardless of whether it's a handicapped space or blocking a door to the building. (Again, I am the wrong demographic for this place but seriously people are inconsiderate!!) 11. The kitchen layout. The placement of the dishwasher is odd and makes it difficult to put away dishes. 12. Dark. Our apartment is a bottom floor corner unit that looks out onto the pool. For this reason, we get very little natural light. 13. Other random things. One month we got an eviction notice for failure to pay rent DESPITE HAVING PAID RENT. We talked to the office about it and their response was "oh, I thought we sent out a larger number of eviction notices than normal this month". REALLY?! They aren't the brightest.... So if you are looking for a party scene, this may be your place, otherwise I recommend you keep looking! read more

I am VERY glad that I no longer live here. I won't waste too much of my time dissecting every crappy flaw about this place. Just see other reviews preceding mine and you'll get the idea. So, I'll keep it short. Thin walls, loud and at times immature neighbors, unfriendly staff, dirty hallways and common areas, and so overpriced for what you get. This place has changed management at least twice during my time there and both management teams were equally crappy. I'll reiterate what everyone else has said: DON'T LIVE HERE. I am counting down the days until my lease is up and I can move out. I have lived here for about 6 months and the management has already changed and they have both been rude and most of the time, unhelpful. There has been multiple break ins and last week when I walked in the garage a tahoe was missing all of its tires. My absolute least favorite park is my upstairs neighbors. I don't know if this place just has terrible floors but I can hear every single step they take. They must hate to relax because I swear they walk all day, every day. I think I am going a little insane from it. The only positive thing is that they have dog parks. But along with that, people don't pick up their dog poop and they let the trash cans overflow with poop bags before they change them. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend living here and I definitely won't be resigning my lease. read more

They address any need I have with such great customer service. The maintenance techs have always completed my work orders quickly.
