    Chez le Fab

    Chez le Fab

I love that the creators of Chez le Fab are striving - and achieving - something totally different…read moreto anything else in Limerick. The kitschy, thrown together vibe of the layout and decor goes well with the unique location and building. Anything else would look cheapened, but it works here. The menu is lovely, there are so many attractive options from French food as the name might suggest to Tapas and a lovely selection of cakes, tarts and scones. The coffee isn't half bad either. I came down on the Wednesday night to check out the open mic. One side of the room was bright, a little harshly so, with overhead lighting. I would love to see this lit up with just all the slapdash lamps around the shop, or more candles in the evening. Once the open mic started, we all moved over to the other half where a stage had been set up and there was seating area close up and a couple of seats behind. Some of the decor over here was a bit much-- i'm not a huge fan of the palettes. One kept falling over if people touched it and it just looked a little "too" rustic for my taste. In general though I really like the vintage-y vibes. I do think it could be styled a little more, and not be so completely random. The table at the back by the bathrooms for example, that has a really suave vibe. It's a really nice vibe for a slow and casual catch up with your friends. My roommates and I have come here to debrief after a day's work before we head home, and it's really nice for that.

The music is quite a nice selection of cover songs which I very much enjoyed and found myself singing along to the tune. The ambience is dark and laid back very relaxing and not overwhelming on the eyes. The food was spectacular was expecting American but got a bit of a twist with the potato skins which was very much agreeable. The sirloin was nicely cooked and the garlic butter gave it a savory taste. Did not need to add salt or pepper. The taste pallet was just right. The waitress was very lovely she was extremely attentive and kind.

Woman working there who seemed to be a manger was extremely rude and uninviting. Pints were warm and my friends request for a cider was repeatedly ignored. Nachos were clearly from a Doritos bag and wings came served on their own with no salad or fries. At the end we requested a shisha to go upstairs and were told it was "full" despite there being hardly any customers (no shock why) even though a group of possibly underage girls were allowed to go up. When we told the manger woman we needed to split the bill she got very sarcastic and took forever to divide the bill which resulted in my friend being overcharged. AVOID

Vintage - Told this was the best place in town! I'd agree

I got a pint of Guinness and the roast of the day. The roast was absolutely excellent. I really enjoyed the gravy over the top and the stuffing underneath. The meat was cooked very well. The service was great and made me feel at home on the other side of the pond. I really enjoy when the server walks you through the menu after you ask questions to help you arrive at the right entree, which is exactly what happened. I will be visiting again before I go home and definitely when I come back to the fine town of Kanturk.

I love the stone and lacquered wood finishes inside. This is the kind of place where you see the owner invested and working at his restaurant. I came here with my boyfriend, his brother and sister for lunch and can say that The Vintage did not disappoint! The food here is much nicer than you would expect at a bar and there was proper wait staff which is why I would consider it more of a restaurant than bar or bottle shop. Anyway, we sat down and ordered 2 appetizers, 4 mains, 3 desserts and 2 coffees all for the whopping price of 73€, I nearly fell off my bar stool. Such good value for delicious food and good portion sizes. I shared some of the mushroom soup and brown bread which was so flavorful and creamy but not too heavy. I could eat that brown bread all day but resisted since I had a fillet of fish on the way. My fish was cooked perfectly, not over battered and super moist. Almost everyone at the table ordered the fish which was a crowd pleaser. The table shared sides of veg, potatoes and chips which were all delicious, I'd say my favorite was the broccoli. Despite being smothered in creamy maybe cheesiness, I can still say I ate my greens for the day, right? Whatever they put on it, I could eat those just on its own....ok with a side of that brown bread. I would definitely come back. It's not a fancy Star rated restaurant in looks and feel, but a warm cozy place where you could take the whole family or just enjoy with friends. I felt the food was extremely good value and service was excellent.
