Been coming here for over a decade I believe. Have Elfa setup in multiple rooms and closets throughout the whole house. All I have setup myself and still working well. Having an interchangeable system really is nice and the ability to return or purchase more parts as needed. We only shop for Elfa during the yearly discount sale around winter time :-). Otherwise the pricing is definitely high for low cost IKEA type items. Staff is always friendly and helpful to custom design and point out options that we might not have thought of. Also purchased stand alone Elfa items and used the Bilt app to put them together. Very nice to zoom in and better understand how to put things together. read more

I had ordered bins from the Oakbrook Container Store and needed more. I couldn't find the receipt and couldn't remember what the bins were called. They were a discontinued item at the time I ordered them, so I wasn't even sure I could get them. I called the store and spoke to Holly who was super kind and helpful. She asked for my phone number, found the order, and when she saw they no longer had the item in stock, she searched all the stores and found one that had 7 left. With the sku # Holly gave me I was able to place an order. It is a little thing, but made me so happy to know I could get what I needed to help with my craft room organization. Love this place! I order online and when I get to the store to pick up all I do is send a message saying I have arrived and I am outside in my car. The message is connected to your pick up email. They bring out the online purchase and you drive away. So easy! Thank you! read more

I designed and ordered an Elfa online. When it was ready to be picked up we drove to the store, let them know we were there, and they loaded it all into our trunk. Once we started assembling the Elfa at home, we discovered that we needed to exchange a few shelves for baskets. We took them to the store and it was not a problem to exchange just a portion of the Elfa design. On our receipt everything was rung up separately. While in the store I did a little browsing. How can you not?! All the isles were marked one way and a limited number of people were allowed in. Parking can be a bit of a challenge considering the Container Store is in with the popular restaurants. There are a few garages not too far of a walk though, and for curbside pickup you do not need to park in a spot (just in front of the store). read more

The container store is a great store to find those odd organizational items you might need. I will generally go to the container store to pick up the containers for baseballs. I get a baseball at every Major League Stadium I visit. They always have what I need, the store is always organized and super clean. It isn't a store I spend a lot of time in. The staff is usually very helpful and I appreciate that they are not pushy. The service is generally very efficient. I'm not sure that I've spent longer than 5 minutes in line even during the busy season. read more

Tsk, tsk, tsk, shame on you Container Store. I have written before about check out issues at your old location. I didn't think it was possible, but the new location is WORSE. Parking for this new location will be an issue, no easy access. New location is not nearly as bright and the only windows face north. Looooooooooooooooooooong check out line. People were patiently waiting their turn when one of the cashiers decided to open her register on the opposite side. Now, to be fair to those in line, they wanted to be waited on in the order in which they got into that line. All the cashier had to do is call for the next person in line, but she did not want to do that, so when a woman just walked up and got behind the person being checked out, she let her stay there. She was NOT even directed to go to the entrance to that line. The cashier blamed the customers and waited on the woman who bypassed at least 7 people who had been waiting. Wait, What? It's the customer's fault for not wanting to wait any longer????????????? FIX YOUR CHECK OUT ISSUES. read more

Anyone else disappointed that Oak Brook Mall allowed the Container Store to move in? Initially I thought it was a good idea, but now having seen the outside of the store and how much smaller it is now, it's just sad. First off, the UGLY blue signage. OC is spending quite a bit of money on renovations to make this part of the mall really beautiful, yet they allow this huge ugly blue sign to be out up and it looks EXTREMELY tacky next to the Pirch sign. Here is my deal with the container store. I go there a lot, for very specific things and the original location was fantastic, parking was easy, I was in and out. NOW you have to find parking next to all of the restaurants. GOOD LUCK. Seriously who thought that it was a smart idea to move into here? You go to the mall to browse clothes, shoes, handbags... you don't go to the mall to browse Elfa Shelves.... AND the store is smaller than before, aisles are more cramped, the store isn't as fun to go into because it just feels confined. Thanks for making your loyal customers pissed. I ordered a small Elfa shelf system. The store was poorly stocked. It took 3 weeks to get 3 out of 5 packages. What good does that do? The 4th piece is in transit. The final piece, they do not have period. Poorly organized. I have lots of Elfa systems that I purchased in the past. They are great. I will never order online again! read more

Over the years, I've lowered the bar significantly regarding what impresses me at retail. At most places, I'm genuinely surprised and impressed when I get what would typically be considered adequate or competent customer service. The folks at the Oak Brook Container Store just recalibrated that measure for me. Holy smokes! I haven't been wowed by customer service in a long, long time. I can honestly say the only place where I've seen/experienced consistently good, cheerful, helpful, and proactive service at this level is probably Disney. I'm getting started on a project that's way overdue -- putting Elfa shelving up in my hobby room. I have a good amount of the shelving and hardware from a previous residence, but needed a whole lot more. It's the kind of project that you think you're prepared for, but as you progress, you realize you need all kinds of additional pieces. So I made a couple trips to the store, and numerous visits online, over the last couple days. The website experience is easy as can be. But the store service is dynamite. Between my two trips, I'd say I interacted with probably seven or eight employees, and every single one was patient, super happy to help, and right on with his/her advice. I wish I'd gotten a few names to directly compliment, but my mind was so full of measurements and quantities that I completely forgot. I'd not shopped at a Container Store in about 15 years. I'm sure everything was just fine back then, but certainly don't remember this level of A+ service. I wonder if this is chain-wide, or if the hiring manager at this location just really knows how to pick 'em. I should probably say that I'll shop here more often because of all this. And I will definitely head there if I need more of their proprietary Elfa stuff. But the one major negative of this place will keep me from going there frequently -- the location. Parking is particularly brutal in that section of the mall, and the parking garage is a little too far to carry the oversize home goods that people would typically be picking up there. The prices are a bit (okay, a lot) on the high side for the majority of stuff. But frankly, if the extra money goes to the quality of the products and the training/compensation of the staff, it's absolutely worth it. This is a rare case where I'd say the higher prices are completely justified. If I want low prices on cheap stuff with unhelpful service, I can go just about anywhere. I'm quite happy to support the quality goods and quality people at The Container Store Oak Brook. read more

This place gets an automatic 4 because it's located in the most evil part if the mall, by ALL THE RESTAURANTS, the parking in this part is horrendous even with the 2 parking garages, there are more valet spots than handicapped (really OAKBROOK). Their old location across the street had better parking. Inside however is well organized by style and type of item. Also their staff is helpful and they try to get the line moving fast. I went on a day with an event, BIG MISTAKE, the store was full of shoppers but the staff was attentive and helpful and demonstrated their products well. A lover of Elfa. It is all over my house in all my closets. It is also our shelves in other parts too. I would tell anyone, buy this over any other organization system. I bought from the previous CS location for year. Easy in and great service with an outstanding staff. Then they moved to the mall from the outskirts of the mall. Same great product but an absolute nightmare to get to store. Even on a slow day at the mall. Who came up with the idea to put this type of place next to all the eating hot spots? Inside store, you could not find an employee if you tried. To check out, the line is huge. Not the service I remember. I understand the mall location, you can attract another type of customer I guess. Shopping for shoes at Nordstom why not buy a closet system too? The pick up outside used to be an hour at most, now order this morning, hours later maybe you can pick it up curbside. We will just order off their website going forward. read more

Beautiful new location in Oakbrook Center. Grand Opening party was flawless & (wait for it... ) well-oganized. Have never seen so many valets & servers. Great food & drink, fun band and a dance floor. Really a nice gift to customers! A percentage of Grand Opening weekend sales goes to support Ronald McDonald House. Wow, service is fantastic here. I ordered an elfa closet online to the Oakbrook store. I pulled up and went inside. Out comes my order within 5 minutes. That is service. Husband installed and I love it. Then went back for a more complicated design where Sarah spent a lot of time with me going over the myriad intricacies of dogs, leashes, detergent, storage, etc for a laundry room and we came up with a plan that I'm very pleased with. Going back to pick up laundry room closet system tonight. There is nothing better than having a house where everything has a place, and is neat and organized. I'm going back for other closets to do Elfa which is SO easy to install. I've used their closet systems in 3 homes now and am never disappointed. read more

So this is an ambivalent review because on the one hand I love the customer service and the quality of products that they have here. But the new location means fewer visits, so now I look to see if I can find things at competitor stores first before I'm willing to take a chance of finding parking. Also, there seems to be a greater effort from the associates to push products instead of simply being helpful and homey like when they first started. Parking is awful. No longer can I take a fast trip to pick up things. I now have to fight mall traffic which is always awful especially given the location - by the restaurants. Who was the genius in that one? In fact, the first time I went in search I couldn't find it because it never occurred to me it would be placed by the restaurants! Please move and return to your original mission! read more

This location is the pits. No more popping in for me. Every customer in front of me in line had to leave their items in the store to run get the car to pull up to the door. It's inconvenient to take a cart out. That's like IKEA but with higher prices. The staff, while friendly is not at the caliber it once was. I've been to this location three times, and each time had to wait in line to pay for longer than I should have. There once was kind of an upbeat fun atmosphere in the store, and that no longer is the vibe. read more

Like another review said, terrible location! This was my first time at the store, but will their prices, will likely be my last! I'm happy that our pantry is finally complete, but it came with a hefty price tag. The install is pricey, too, and he marked my walls and put gouges in them! In addition, I had to clean up after him! When I went to the store to exchange my shelves, they like to bring your items out for you. I told her I was parked in their pick-up parking spot, but she wanted me to drive around and park in front of the store. What's the point of having these spots then? What everybody else said - horrible new location! I mentioned that as a passing comment to someone who works there and she said it's best to park in the garage by Nordstroms and then take an elevator to the store. I haven't tried that yet, but parking by the restaurants is a nightmare! I have to go back today to buy packing supplies and I'm not looking forward to it. And in general, sometimes you wait in line forever because the check out process is very slow with how large and awkward the stuff is people buy. read more

Ok - in fairness, I have NOT shopped at this location - precisely because of the parking problems noted in many of the other reviewers' reviews. I DID shop before at the previous location, because I could always find good parking. So the two stars are only for the parking. It's sad to say, but I have just moved here from Chicago and unfortunately, I will continue to shop The Container Store on North Avenue in Chicago. That location is big, bright, AND has wonderful parking. read more

We bought and had an Elfa custom closet installed. Closet quality - 4 STARS. The installer was efficient; did an outstanding job - 5 STARS. a 1 STAR review. Why? To catch attention and if you are considering a custom closet from The Container Store - what follows is a value read and can save you hundreds of dollars. Closet installation price - $581. We were told the following by the salesperson at the time of purchase. 2 installers would be out between 8 and 9 (on the date of install) and would be there for about 5 hours. We were told how to prepare the room; the closet room was totally clear and ready. We were also told that the install price was an estimate (our read was that it may take longer than the quoted time estimate and if so, the cost may be more than the agreed ESTIMATE), . INSTALLATION DAY - One man appeared at about 8:30 and took 15 minutes to set up. He was finished by 11:30. He did a great Job, absolutely first class - the only flaw - cost of install was $190/hour for his time. EXPLANATION - During my complaint conversation with the supervisor/manager at the Container Store, she said that (i) one installer is routine; it is the rare project that takes two; and (ii) The price of the install = 25% of the price of the closet; and (iii) the price has ZERO to do with time or effort. The Container store KNOWS that the price is hugely inflated; the manager was apologetic arguing that there was some miscommunication at the time of purchase. NO, there wasn't. The install discussion at point of sale is a gross and deliberate misrepresentation. SUMMARY: The custom closet is a decent buy. The install cost is not fraud, but it is fraud's first cousin. If you are going to buy the closet, find a great handyman that has installed closets and save HUNDREDS of dollars. read more

Went in last week to get a few pieces of Elfa For a little closet at our cabin. The staff seemed less than thrilled to help although they looked available. Two were looking at computer screens and one was helping a customer. I explained that I had used Elfa before and had my measurements and knew exactly what I needed. I thought I could get in and out but apparently they see it as a much longer process. She wanted no part of that information and I was handed a beeper and wandered around a bit and eventually said forget it. I bought a few things from a cashier that was more than pleasant but left the beeper and won't be back for any Elfa. read more

I love the products but don't ask for help because you get attitude. The workers seem stressed and are not trained well on customer service. It would have been nice to feel like I am somewhat important vs bothering the employee while they are busy. I know they are busy but there is no one around to ask a simple question. It is the tone of their voice like I was speaking to a teenaged girl (like da lady) but both ladies were not teens. Again, the products are amazing just don't ask for help. Shop online. I went into the Oakbrook, IL store today. I asked #1 associate a question, her response was "I have 90 secs til I need to take a phone call" go ask Matt over there, and pointed. Matt was on the phone, so I asked someone else, if I could have Elfa shelves cut down to size. Her response "Maybe but not today" and continued walking as she said "Sorry, Im expected a phone call and its 2 mins late"...then I finally got Matts attention..Her said he would see if someone could cut them, cause he was busy with a phone call, and tried to get another customer to ask her question cause he was busy. Matt did manage to have them cut for me, but he treated the other customer and myself rudely, as did everyone else in the store, except BOB at checkout, he was amazing! If you cant help the customers in the store, then you shouldn't be on the floor on your phone. I was so happy to be back out shopping after all this online stuff during Covid, but after this I will not be shopping at Container Store in the Near or Distant future. read more

The location/ parking is a problem. I no longer frequently shop there; it's just too time consuming. If I buy anything large or cumbersome then I have to go move my car to pull up in the busiest place of the mall(by the restaurants). Then one of the cashiers scolded me for pulling up there for my items (4 large clothes valet racks). The cashier that originally checked me out saw how heavy the racks boxes were and told me I could leave them there and pull up. I will go elsewhere to shop now. They lost a great customer. read more

I needed to pick up something quick while I was on my 30 minute lunch break. I walked over from my job which is across the street. I grabbed what I needed. After 10 minutes in line with no hope of being checked out soon, I left and watched others in line leave too. The cashiers were in no hurry at all. The manager walked by a few times and did nothing to add more cashiers or to pitch in. I finally left because their system was processing credit and debit cards so slowly. I was so disappointed in the service here. I will not be back. I will just buy from Amazon instead. I think this store should realize that people pay a premium at a store like this because of the service. Looks like I am not the first to find the same thing at this store based on the reviews. read more

Ok so I've been here a couple times now so I think I'm ready to write a review about this place! Mind you I have never been to their old location or any other container store but this one. When I first walked in it felt a little overwhelming there is so much stuff to see. Boxes and organizers all sizes all colors whatever you want. I mean omg!!!! It was really cool, right away it made me feel like I need all of this in my life. But anyway it's definitely worth checking out, I think even if you don't need anything you will still end up buying something there because they have such cool stuff. Especially right now they put up all their Christmas boxes and paper out. The only problem I see there is it's always crowded there and the check out is really really long. It kind of kills the experience at the end and makes you just want to not buy anything so you can skip the line at check out. read more

While I would love to give The Container Store a five star rating, I can't. The store concept and what it sells is 5 stars without a doubt. BUT, the women in the Elfa section, get only one star and that is just for showing up to work. I have had many elfa systems in my home and and have a fair grasp as to what it is that I need. All I needed was a header track (as I had all of the kit from a previous system that I was now moving to a smaller space). Told the lady I needed a track for a 29 inch space and before I could finish my sentence, she speaks over me to say that all they sell is the three different sizes and I replied "since when does the container store not offer custom sizes, they used to cut this stuff in store". The women then said "oh, you need it cut", "yes, yes I do" (Eye roll). I proceed to tell her the width of the space which is 29 inches and she cuts me off again and says to cut it to 28 inches. Ok, fine. She writes down 28 on her little pad of paper and then tells me that she is super busy (ok, 5 people in the store on a Tuesday morning and I am the only person in the Elfa section, who knows, maybe she had a phone order to fill, whatever) and that she will cut the track to 29 inches. I corrected her and said that she recommended 28 and that she would cut it to 28 inches and she said "no, I didn't say that, you said you wanted 29 inches" and I reiterated our conversation from 2 minutes ago and she was standing firm with the 29 inches. She is also not a big fan of letting anyone finish their sentences, kept cutting me off. I pointed to her writing 28 inches on her piece of paper and she was not happy to be corrected. I then get the whole spiel of how busy she is and if she could have a few minutes, I cut her off and said "do your thing, I will walk around the store". Uuuugggghhhh!!!!! Then I get to the check out, which had all five customers now in line and only one cashier working. A CS employee opens another register and yells out that she will take the next person in line. No one moves (I am last person in line and do not want to cut in front of people who have been waiting.) The lady says it two more times and is rolling her eyes with serious irritation. Fine, no one wants to move, I will. Give her my Elfa header track and a basket that will hang once I get the whole system up and doesn't the cashier start to chastise me because "how are you going to hang that basket without having the vertical tracks, you know you need those and blah blah blah," Could not get a word in edge wise to tell her that I have the rest of the kit at home. What is it with the women employees at the Container store!!!! Can't they shut their traps for two seconds. Memo to the women over there in Oakbrook, the customers are not your children nor spouses/partners. What is even worse, I have to go back in a few minutes as I am having an issue with the screws.
