Ask the Community - The Compression Store

I need to get measured for a compression boot or a sock can that happen?

They seem to do that. But pray that they have what you need in the store. I had to order a compression garment and their supplier kept making false promises on delivery arrival day. They just never shipped it. Makes the store look bad.

Four days ago, I had an appointment with a pain doctor (not at this hospital) because my pain was…read morestill excruciating and my surgeon recommended I see that doctor. I had a blood test done, but the result wasn't available until literally a short while after we'd returned home. We'd already been at the pain doctor's office (part of NYU Langone Health) for quite a long time, and meanwhile we got a call from the surgeon's office; I was told to go to the Urgent Care Center at this hospital immediately, since the blood test result was extremely concerning. As with my recent surgical stay here, *every single person* who took care of me (the lobby receptionist, the radiology technician, two nurses, the medical resident and the attending physician) was SUPERB. I'm continually amazed about the patience and kindness and thoughtfulness of everyone working at this hospital; it's truly incredible. We were here for about five hours, and they were all very attentive.

Thank goodness she was transferred here because this hospital is so nice and lovely. There is lots of street parking and it is a very calm area. The lobby is nice and the staff is very helpful. My husbands grandmother has been treated amazing here and they have such a great way of how they treat their patients. She was put in a private room which was nice and clean. I would definitely recommend this hospital if you have any orthopedic issues in Manhattan.

I don't know about you, but I've been pretty disappointed in the world lately. It seems as though…read moreall of this (:: gestures at everything ::) is being run by incompetents. I grew up thinking that there were systems in place, people in charge that would ensure the world wouldn't tumble into utter chaos...and now I've grown up to find that that is categorically untrue. There are no adults in the room. I could go on with this unrelated, unprompted tangent, but all this is to say that the Hospital for Special Surgery restored my faith in humanity. My mother needed an partial knee replacement, and as her primary helper in all things, I handled the communication, brought her to her appointments, brought her in for surgery, waited, and took her home. Please believe me when I say that every step of the process was handled efficiently, and every one of the many, many people we dealt with was not just good at their job, but they were also courteous and usually downright lovely. Having spent time in several hospitals, this was not what I expected. It was what I hoped for of course, but certainly hasn't been my past experience. From the security personnel who welcomed us to the check-in desk to the intake folks to the nurses who prepped her to the surgeon who operated to the folks who run the Family Atrium where we wait for our people to get released to the nurses who took care of my mom post-op, everyone was organized and impressively on top of things. We had a very slight hiccup with her prescriptions, and the nurse in charge was mortified and immediately worked quite tirelessly to make sure it was taken care of, and later followed up with me to make sure we were all set. I'm not pretending that this will not be an annoying and repetitive process. There is waiting involved (less than you might think though). And if you have surgery, you're going to have seventeen different people ask you who you are, your birth date, what surgery you're getting and more...but better that than them replacing the wrong knee. Best of all, the surgery went smoothly and a little more than a week out, my mom is doing great. If and when I need surgery of my own, I will gladly come to HSS.

I feared the worst. I never had surgery before and knew this was going to be a big deal. . Dr. Levine was amazing. He explains every thing in detail, even quizzing me to make sure I understood why I needed surgery and what the fusion surgery will entail. HSS is top of the line, with the newest medical treatments, I knew I was in great hands. Also, I was happy to know that although he was now my doctor, he was also my surgeon. I remember him calling me after a night of me crying, not knowing what to expect. Is it going to hurt? He told me just calm down have a drink and relax, you will be fine, don't worry. Things like that I really appreciated, I know he is super busy and he took time out of his evening to give me a call to finalize what the tests showed, and calm my nerves. If a hospital experience could be excellent, well then this one was... Everything was absolutely perfect. The hospital was clean, the staff was super friendly and accomodating, it is definitely one of the top rated hospitals in america. Although I was so nervous before surgery, I just remember Dr. Levine telling the anesthesiologist, give her a little cocktail. Next thing I remember I woke up and the surgery was over with! Dr. Levine's staff was super helpful. I knew I was being a pain in the butt when I had a million questions, but they were all very accomodating, especially Daisy. She returned all of my phone calls, emails and got me all the paperwork etc I needed. We had some good laughs and because of her pleasant, professional demeanor, she made the whole experience very easy. My months of follow up visits went well, he encouraged me each and every time and I progressed just as he said I would. My physical therapists were impressed and all said your doctor is amazing. My final visit was sad, although it was closure, Now I am on my own. He did his part, the therapists did theirs and now I walk great! His final words were keep in touch. I would love to see how you are doing. I can't thank Dr. Levine enough. I am grateful for him and his staff.

So grateful for Dr. Levine! He is highly skilled, caring, and trustworthy. That whole office is…read morereally thoughtful, thorough, and friendly. So glad I found them. I had two failed surgeries before this and had a limp. Couldn't walk longer than 20 minutes without feeling extreme pain and inflammation. I needed complicated revision surgery - a big toe fusion with two places of fusion instead of one. This surgery also required taking out existing hardware, using a bone graft from the heel and bone marrow from the hip, and even using some cadaver bone (amazing that one can do that! I am also writing a letter of gratitude for the organ donors). The surgery went very well and everything is healing wonderfully. Even two weeks after the surgery, while recovering, i was already in much less pain than i was for ten years prior. I am 6 weeks into recovery and feeling great so far. It will only get better from here. For now I'm just trying to be a "patient patent" and wait until everything fully heals but it looks like soon I will be able to walk without pain. My quality of life will improve tremendously with this restored mobility. Thank you!
