It is nice to have a local friendly comic store to help you find old past issues of a comic line or help you find a new title you may enjoy. Selection: Comics are a finicky priced item depending on the collectibility of the line. My first printing of the entire Batman Beyond line that I paid only a few bucks for is worth a lot more today (especially because I got them graded). The selection here is for new titles and back issues are in the more modern line of comics. Anything silver age or earlier is not going to be in the bins. Value: Comics are a value that you find them or the collectors market finds them. You will be paying cover price plus tax for all new titles. read more

This is an awesome place for comics. Big selection and some vintage stuff all at relatively fair prices....Now onto the Game Hub, the new guy they hired to run their card section is not super well informed. They don't price their cards which I already find insufferable for a local shop - I understand card shows go off TCG market prices, but there's no reason for a comic shop that sells some mid-tier cards to mostly kids and some hobbyists to not price their stuff in the case - it's lazy and inefficient - and you will be waiting awhile while they look up their prices on TCG. Considering they aren't selling a bunch of slabs or really pricey cards. I think it's odd to treat cards as a secondary form of their business but to at the same time price at or above market prices, on top of that - their lead card guy doesn't really seem to have a great grasp on running his side of the store anyways. Also, just fair warning - I would be extremely cautious buying single packs from here because they are from open boxes that are weighable. If you are unsure about that statement - they are selling loose ascended heroes booster packs....those are not available at wholesale - meaning these guys are pulling packs from other box sets and selling them...not saying that means for sure they are weighing them, but I'd be cautious, especially when buying from an open booster box that has guaranteed hits. All in all, I think they could be fostering a much better card shop environment - one that finds balance between not getting taken advantage of but still serving their community. They could price themselves more competitively and slightly below market prices on new products and still make a great profit and not rake their own community over the coals. I like this shop. I've been coming to this shop for years for comics and figures, but I'd like to see a bit more of an overhaul with the card side and staffing in general here. I realize the owner is pretty hands off with the card side of the business, but I think the hiring could be better. read more

I was scammed. Overall the shop is really nice and has a wide selection. But when I came in for a signing, I asked if I could buy a Fireborn book and the cashier said I could after I got it signed (which I thought was a little suspicious). Then after I get it signed, the $5 copy turns into $15. I ask why and I'm told it's because it's a signed copy. I wanted this signature all month so I didn't put up a huge fight, but looking back, I should've stood up a little more. read more

Hands down one of the most coolest set up of a comic store. Such a hidden gem. Perfect for date nights to look around with your significant other or to buy your boyfriends/girlfriend's favorite hero comics! It's very clean and organized in the shop. The owner and all of the staff are so nice they're fun to talk with! Not to mention all of the comics are affordable. And you can tell they're taken care of because of how good quality they're in. They have such a wide selection of other items such as action figures posters books and such much more. The prices ranges but trust me you can score really cool comics for such an affordable price. The staff remains super friendly and helpful, with Eddy and Gerald being the 2 who I see most frequently. The merchandise and pricing is top notch. They have current new releases, back issues and $1 bins filled with bargains and potential treasure. My 7 year old has been coming either me since he was born. He's treated well with kindness and welcomed to look around. This is a family friendly spot that Jun has created. No grumpy LCS attitudes here. I've referred many comic collecting peers to come here through the years and many have switched loyalties and made the Comic Bug their go-to LCS for their routine pull-lists committing to advance pre-orders due to their system, reliability and vibe. The Comic Bug is a great little comic book store in Manhattan Beach. Parking is easy on the street and the place is on Manhattan Beach Blvd. so it is hard to miss. The place is spotless and there are a lot of tables for people to sit and actually read the comics if they want. How nice of them. The staff is great. They know comics, all of them. They know where they are and what type you need based on the questions you ask. I know nothing of comic books and my grandson has a few communication issues, so I really needed help to get my grandson the comics he would like. He is not a collector, so he will read and toss them. They have the expensive comic books, hard cover comics and all sorts of collector things. This little place has really everything. The staff talked to my grandson and were so patient with him. They saw he was with his Bubbie and they know we spend money, but instead of showing stuff beyond his abilities, they directed him to the huge one dollar collection. My grandson was in heaven because he got to pick out a few instead of one. He was so happy with his selection. I just love this place and we will be back, even though it is a drive for us. I came in for an MTG prerelease as a new player. Since I'm not collecting, I really only wanted a good experience out of the event. I was disappointed this wasn't the case. Well before the prerelease started, I chatted with Caleb and said it was my first event. Despite this, he didn't mention that I had to register for the event, even after reserving a spot and paying. Knowing I am a new player, this conversation was Caleb's chance to let me know that registration is required in addition to paying (I even offered to pay early, which he declined). He also didn't mention it even after everyone had finished paying and registering. Again, knowing that you have new players, this should have been a cue to announce that players need to also register. Because of not registering, I was automatically given a loss for the first round, which ruined the spirit of the event for me. As a Mom and Pop store, this shop's advantage would come from exceptional customer service, not competitive prices. Unfortunately, this store failed to provide great service, and as a result, I don't have plans to return. read more

This review is long overdue. Comic books are my passion. And this store is my home base, my happy place, and where I get my comic pull. I was introduced to the store by a friend who knew one of the owners. And I've loved their store from their old location, to their current one. What I have loved about this store, and what brings me back are it's clean layout, availability of new issues, an indie section, as well as fun things around the store (if you look up towards the ceiling, you might see some cool Star Wars ships). There's also lots of local comic artists and writers who stop by on the regular. Lastly, something that I have loved, and can be easily missed is a kid's comic book section. I called Comic Bug a few days prior to going their shop asking if they submit books on behalf of customers to CGC. I had a 2-3 minute phone conversation about it over the phone with an employee ensuring me that they can help me out, they even dropped the person's name of who to talk to specifically at ComicBug and how the whole process would go. I was so stoked when the employee over the phone said they could help me resubmit my already graded books to get re-slabbed and go for a custom label. I also used to pop into the Comic Bug every-now and then when I lived in the area, so I thought why not? It seemed like a chill shop the 2 or 3 times I went. Plus several shops near me said they didn't do the CGC submitting that I was looking for Comic Bug it was. On my late Sunday morning I drive almost 90 minutes to ComicBug, thinking I'll be able to drop my books off, and possibly do some big shopping. I went to the counter and the employee who does all their submitting, told me they don't do that.... I was shocked, given the in depth phone conversation I had, and confidence they had over the phone and how they described the process to me. They flat out lied to me, wasted my time, energy, and gas to get there to straight up turn me away with zero remorse. What an utter joke that place is. I wasted my Sunday trying to make it to Comic Bug. They lied to me and we're not helpful. I tried talking to the main guy at the counter and he just kept saying no we don't do that sorry.... He seemed to care less to as I explained the phone conversation I had with the shop and how far I drove. I also came ready to drop DOE at that place to fuel my comic book club I run at my middle school that I teach at... I'll take my business else where. What A COMPLETE waste of time!!!! go elsewhere where employees are on the same page, organized, and don't lie to customers. read more

Such an awesome staff and they treat their regulars the same as new people, with respect and pure appreciation. Full disclosure, my visit to The Comic Bug was because it was host to the "12 Sided Die" web series premiere. It is SO cool that they host events like that! Prior to the screening (which I didn't partake in) they had a couple hours of playing D&D with the cast! Such a fun thing! The owner and employees were wonderful hosts and SUPER friendly, inviting and enthusiastic! The shop itself is packed with comics, toys and games! It is very clean and inviting. There is a whole separate room where folks were playing games all night! If you're into comics or D&D type games, it seems like there is an awesome community happening here! I took a friend to the airport this morning and passed by The Bug for the first time in quite a while. I used to drive there every day! It brought out a lot of emotions and even more great memories. I was looking for several exclusive collections of Spiderman originals from the 60s and 70s to read prior to the new Spiderman movie premiere coming up next week. If they don't know what you are specifically looking for, staff is really good about directing you to where you need to be. You can tell they have an advanced knowledge of the comic universe as well as the personality to help guide fledglings like myself. Just shy of my twins' fourth birthday, I brought them into Comic Bug for their first legit comic book shop experience. It could not have been a better introduction to the world of comics for them. The staff was incredibly generous and took extra time to help pick out age-appropriate books. When my son spotted a large Batman robot toy he wanted for his birthday, everyone swooped into action. One of the proprietors distracted the twins with a cartoon (which was their first brush with Bruce Timm (extra stars) while Eddie rang me up and then went and stored the gift in my car out front so I was able to keep an eye on the kids. Eddie even covered the gift with a blanket he found in the trunk so the kids wouldn't spot it. They did all of this without being asked. They just saw an exhausted dad and saved the day. Intellivision Lives! celebrated their Nintendo DS collection release with a community event and party at The Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach. The Intellivision legacy has been mostly championed by President Keith Robinson who has found clever ways to get the brand and marketing into the hands of fans of both the old school reverence and new adopters. Over fifteen original designers and members of 'The Blue Sky Rangers' were present to sign DS covers, posters and tell their stories from the early days of video gaming. The Comic Bug is a well layed out comic book store that also supports the local Hero Clix and Card strategy games. They have a section for the younger readers you'll be bringing with you as well as another larger section in the back for events. Its also one of the only stores in town that still bags & boards for free with each comic purchased and that is huge! for an avid collector and reader. Their wide variety of comic & super hero t-shirts, memorabilia and more is awesome! You can get a Captain America shield here! The other thing that sold me on this location was that when I noticed an issue of a set was sold out on the shelf, they took the time to record my information in a binder (they do this for everyone! ) then they searched around for that issue and called me to let me know it was in! That was awesome! The staff is friendly, the place is clean and well lit, the only downside would have to be parking as its only street parking or dropping the car off at the Trader Joe's nearby. read more
