I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed The Collective before now. I have been a customer for almost 2 years. Charles has primarily been my stylist and I am in love with everything about his atheistic and approach. Nando has done my hair a couple of times as well & he is so great. The salon is open air and friendly. Music and atmosphere are so pleasant & relaxing. The location is wonderful and all the stylists do work their clients rave about. There is not a pressure to buy things. Only relaxation. I highly recommended this salon if you are looking for your "person" to do your hair. Muah. read more

I sent photos of current and desired styles and asked Christina if she thought it an appropriate style for me and if she could make suggestions if not. She showed little enthusiasm or interest, gave no tips on styling beyond advising me I would have to style it; the cut was pretty bad, uneven and nothing like what I requested. read more

I finally decided it was time to get back to a salon. The place I had been going to had closed..time to find a new place. I read many reviews and decided The Collective might be a good fit. I scheduled with Christina and went over all my issues with my hair. Grey had developed and lost some hair due to stress. Christina was incredible.. I feel like myself again and so happy to have found her !!!! Thank you so much !! read more

Just moved to Carlsbad, it's always nerve wracking to find a new hairstylist. I got it on the first shot!!! Charles is exceptional and gave me the best haircut I've had in years. It's a great salon too, good vibes abound. Thank you!!! read more

This was such a great place to get my first proper haircut since Covid. The place is really relaxing with a large open garage door so I felt really good about ventilation and exposure. Fernando was my stylist and he made me feel really welcome and provided the best ever scalp massage. I would come back just for a wash and head massage. He listened well to what I wanted and offered really thoughtful suggestions. The place does all of the little things that make you feel appreciated as a customer. The quality of the products is top notch and the free follow-up clean up is also a nice touch. This is a premium salon and I felt like it was a great value. I can't wait to go back. read more

Nando is the greatest hairstylist I have ever been to. And he is in great company with the other co-owners of this salon. Amanda, Christina and Charles. You really can't go wrong with any of them. It's a small salon so your experience is intimate and personal. You feel like you're getting your hair done amongst friends. They are a full service salon. I purchase and upkeep my extensions here and people are always shocked when they find our I wear extensions. The best quality in the products that they carry. I really can't talk the Collective up enough. Go check it out for yourself. You won't be disappointed. read more

I followed Christina from Kelly Cardenas Salon to here at The Collective and I was getting the same amazing experience here as I was getting there. Everyone is super friendly and has really good vibes and they make sure you're comfortable from the second that you walk in. When Christina was ready I was ushered into the bathroom so I could put on a robe and then put my jacket and bag in the cubby in the closet. This time was the first time that I wanted to donate my hair and they have all the supplies needed to do so. I made a note when I booked my appointment that I wanted to donate it, and they had the rubber bands and bags needed to collect all the hair. She made sure that I was getting a comfortable length for myself since it was such a drastic change to my hair. Once we got the general length down, we went to the sinks in the corner where she shampooed my hair and gave me a brief head and neck massage. Definitely my favorite part of getting my hair cut. Since I've been coming to Christina a couple times by now, she knew what I liked and preferred for my hair, but if it's your first time getting a cut here, I recommend bringing in a few pictures to show what you're looking for since it might be hard to describe in just words. For years before I found Christina I've been jumping from salon to salon trying to find someone who knows how to handle my super thick hair. After finding her a couple years ago I haven't been to anyone else. She's super professional and knows exactly what my hair needs. I'll be sticking around for her! read more

If I could give 100 stars to the salon I would! When I go I see Charles (but everyone there is wonderful), I have been seeing Charles for almost 6 years! I found him after 2-3 weeks of extensive research on stylists and salons in the San Diego area, I don't let just anyone touch my hair, I am VERY particular. The first time I went in I needed a color correction. A previously high rated stylist turned my black hair orange somehow, Charles came to my rescue and made my hair beautiful once again! Every time I go and see Charles I let him have free-range with my hair because I know that at the end of the appointment it will look AMAZING! Secondly, the salon is beautiful, they really added a nice comfortable yet modern touch. Snacks, tea, coffee, mimosa, wine are all available and the best is that your furry little friends are welcome to the salon as well! Dog treats are provided! I am telling you this salon is for you if you're looking for a stress-free cut, color, blow-out whatever your hair needs are you won't be disappointed. read more

Wow! If you are looking for a salon that has a great vibe, beautiful decor and makes you feel comfortable, The Collective is the place to be. The collective is an overall positive and beautiful experience that ensures you the look you have always wanted. As you walk into the salon, all the stylist greet you with a warm and inviting welcome, which immediately starts your experience just right. The experience continues with the options of a variety of beverages and snacks that allows you to get comfortable and relaxed right away. The shampoo and massage are hands down the best parts of my visits. Each stylist engages with each and every one of their clients making each conversation natural. I smile and laugh the whole time I'm there. I've been going to Charles for a few months now and he has created the look Ive been wanting for years now. His overall energy and big heart makes it feel like you've known him for years and makes the experience that much better. As for all the other stylists, they are the same exact way. 10/10 recommend to a friend. Don't miss out on this hair experience. I will not go anywhere else after my experiences at The Collective. P.s they are also dog friendly and ensure your little pal is taken care of just as much as you are! It can't get much better then that. read more

Look no further than The Collective for all your hair needs... and absolutely wonderful people! Nando, Charles, Amanda, and Christina have just opened this beautiful new salon in October 2019 after making a decision to "collectively" branch out and start something on their own. Everything in the salon is fresh and new and I love the rustic decor. I've been coming to Nando for nearly 4 years and I've never been disappointed. He listens intently to what you need to "make you feel more beautiful today" and he more than delivers it, along with an incredibly enjoyable conversation and plenty of laughs! With Nando and this team of talented stylists, you will not only find someone to deliver on your hair wants and needs, but you'll also find friends you can talk to and enjoy their company in the process. read more

The Collective - October 2019: Beautiful rustic decor at the new salon. Everything goes with the theme of their name, The Collective. - Hair Stylists Near Me - Carlsbad, California

I recently moved to North County and was looking for a new stylist. I will keep looking. Three major issues: I expect my stylist to listen to me. I said I would like an inch taken off with layers that blend (no shelf) nicely. I left with a little over 2 inches having been taken off and a lot of choppy layers that do not blend well. The stylist was so rough with my scalp during the wash, brush and blow dry. My neck was sore later that day and into the next day. If I'm paying for a salon visit, it should feel like I'm getting the best treatment, not like I'm a five year old getting my hair brushed after running around in the wind all day. Lastly, I was hopeful after learning that the salon used gluten free products however the smell from the shampoo, conditioner and post styling product was awful! So strong, I had to wash my hair when I got home, twice. I was sick the whole next day from the smell. I tried so many things to get rid of the smell but it stuck around until about two weeks later. Update: Although I will not be going back to the salon, it is mainly due to the stylist and not the owner or salon. The owner was very accommodating and professional in handling this matter. So I changed the stars to reflect that. read more

This is where my wife goes. She gets her hair done and it is fantastic! She loves it, I love it and everyone else loves it. I highly recommend this place. Every time she comes home after getting her hair done she is happier. I'm not saying she's not normally happy, but we've been married for a very long time. I mean, thirty two years is a long time, don't you think? Is your wife happy? Is she as happy as my wife? How do you know - you don't even know my wife... Wait!!! You do? Are you sure? And how do you know her? From where? How long has this been going on? Liar!!! You don't know her. You should be so lucky - but you're not. You're not as lucky as I am. Weirdo! What are you even doing reading reviews about my wife's hair place, anyway? Get your own hair place, this one is for my wife, AND IT'S THE BEST!!! I'd call you a loser but you'd probably start making appointments for your wife here and making it harder for my wife to get a time slot. Which, would actually make you a winner, in several ways. This isn't working out for me, I've got places to go - WITH MY WIFE! You know... the one that looks so amazing that it made you jealous in the first place. P.S. If you're not my wife and happen to just be looking for a place to get your hair done... Just disregard, the whole, of this message and make an appointment. I mean, if you are a woman and want to look amazing... like my wife. read more

I found this place on a yelp search after my hair stylist moved states. It's always a bit scary finding a new place so I put it off longer than I should have. Charles did my cut and highlights. He asked me a few questions about what I was looking for and it was like he read my mind as to the exact thing I was thinking, but better. I'm beyond happy with my hair and so happy I found him. Everyone there is welcoming and kind and the salon has such a positive energy and vibe. Going back today to have them cut my daughter's hair. Highly recommend this salon! read more

Charles has been my hair stylist for 3+ years and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new salon that he's just opened. While his cofounders are equally as well trained and talented, I'm going to brag on Charles for a second. A few of the reasons why I love Charles: He's a perfectionist always making sure to get my hair just right. He teaches me how to style my hair (and I'm not easy to teach) He squeezes me in when I'm a last minute Lucy. And lastly, getting my hair done is my ME-time, and Charles makes it relaxing and fun. He is a great conversationalist, laughs at my jokes, and is always calm (never in a rush) and fun. In short, go to The Collective! You will love it! read more

Precision! I had my hair cut by Charles. Fantastic cut. Start with a beer, then a wash/massage, then a bomb haircut, then another wash/massage. Sometimes you will get your haircut at place that the stylist doesn't listen to you or do why you ask. Charles on the other hand does. Cuts with precision and expertise. Not only is he good, the environment is really cool. A group of cool stylists. My wife sees Nando and loves his cuts and color as well. It's just a cool place and I have nothing bad to say. If you want an excellent cut, and a relaxing environment, just go. Book now. read more

I have always just colored my own hair at home. (As a guy I didn't feel the need to take the extra step of going in) but it's my birthday abs I wanted to feel like I treated myself. Wow. What a difference. Fernando colored my hair and toned it and I have never had more compliments on it! It was worth it completely! There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the skilled work of someone who enjoys and has passion for their craft versus just getting some maintenance done at home. I would highly recommend the salon and I would highly recommend Fernando. He was funny and knew what I wanted to spite me not being able to really express what I wanted in the correct term analogy but just based off a few pictures and a description he was able to tell me what I actually was asking for so that's a stylist can understand. Overall I'm very happy read more

Beautiful hip salon in Carlsbad. All the stylist are wonderful & are very hard workers. I went to a nearby salon where they previously worked, in which I personally didn't care for the energy there; I feel so much more comfortable & welcomed at The Collective! I see Mr. Nando! I drive all the way from Mission Hills, San Diego to see Nando. He is extremely talented & most importantly so down to earth! I am very very particular about my hair. I describe exactly what I want & he ALWAYS delivers! & He is FAST! Beautiful Blonde [check] Rose Gold [check] :) His prices are very fair & also does not push products or unnecessary services on me! Congrats Collective on creating a fun & welcoming atmosphere for your clients!! read more

Charles completed a color correction for me some time ago, and I have been hooked ever since... Not only was my cut and color crafted to perfection, but his patience, guidance, and warmth with a client as particular as I am, is second-to-none. In addition to The Collective offering mastery-level services, they also make their clients feel like the most important and pampered person in the world during their visit. I always leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and gorgeous (without spending all day to do so). This is an incredible group of artists that have clearly mastered both their craft and their service. I had a haircut at The Collective last week with Christina, she has been my stylist for years and her new salon is such a beautiful, wonderful, and welcoming space! The Collective - Color transformation! - Hair Stylists Near Me - Carlsbad, California

The Collective is a cool trendy hair salon that doesn't have to try hard to impress you because they understand what the customer wants and they deliver. I'm biased to Amanda because she does my hair and has been for the past couple of years. Each time I see her she takes the time to value feedback from our last appointment and make any adjustments (if any) that I'm looking for. If you want a KILLER head/neck/shoulder massage you've come to the right place. Besides their ultra chic decor, drink and legitimate snack offerings, the massage is enough to bring you in and stay. Every time I go here I tell myself I need to book a massage because it's that damn good. Another thing I love is you aren't sitting around waiting to get your hair washed out because your stylist is double booked. I'm in and out for a base color and blow out in 90 min. Now that is great customer service! read more
