Came here about a month ago and Stylust is under new management. I got a haircut from Ruth and she was really friendly and asked me a bunch of questions before my cut to make sure we both understood what style I was looking for. They have a nice website that is easy to book appointments and see what services they offer. $45 for haircut, $75 for haircut and blow dry. This includes a hair wash with shampoo. I took a star away because my sister got a haircut as well but with a different stylist, but she wasn't happy with how it turned out at first, but after a fix, it was fine. Ruth is a miracle worker. Entering the salon, my hair needed triage. The hair is Incredibly damaged from heat, lack of cuts and a thyroid issue. A few days ago, a large chunk broke off creating bangs on the left side of my head. Preserving length as much as possible, Ruth worked a miracle to deeply condition and reshape my hair providing a long term manageable prescription to get my hair back on track. My long blonde hair has been almost like a security blanket to me for most of my life, and I am so thankful that I found Ruth to help me repair my mane and give me an excellent cut that blends in the chunk of missing hair. New to Carlsbad and not sure where to go, as I am very picky about my hair, and my hair is very fine, it's difficult to find someone who really knows how to work with fine hair. Well I hit the jackpot when I found Cathy! Not only does she do an amazing haircut and knows how to cut fine hair so it looks as though it is fuller. Cathy also is fantastic at highlights, really listens to what you want. Add to that she came in work especially to do my hair Christmas Eve, you cannot get better service than that. When I first came to the San Diego area almost 10 years ago, I was referred to Diana - who is now the co-owner of StyLust. Diana isn't just my stylist, she's my friend, and it's so great to see her vision of this space come to life! The studio itself is lovely - beautiful light fixtures/good lighting, comfortable chairs, recliner chairs at the wash stations, not to mention the wonderful people here who do hair. I took my 7 year old daughter here because of the reviews. She just needed a trim. When we arrived we weren't greeted until after a few minutes and there was only one other client the stylist was finishing up with. After the lady was done the stylist asked us to come back. She barely spoke two words to my daughter, which made me feel like this lady didn't like children. My daughter was compliant and didn't move at all during the cut. The stylist was very harsh with the blow dry. At one point my daughter looked as if she wanted to cry. I asked after what was wrong and she said the air was burning her neck and scalp. While my daughter needed up having a decent hair cut I won't ever come back. This lady needs to work on customer service and maybe smile a bit more. She made us feel unwelcome and as if we shouldn't have made the appointment at the end of the day. You would think with COVID a salon needs business, I guess this one is fine without ours. read more

As a week-end walk-in I just wanted to ask if there were any time slots available. Two stylists were busy with clients so I waited patiently to be acknowledged. For 20 minutes I was completely ignored. No one even said 'Hi we'll be with you when we're done.' Then another client came in and they both greeted her with 'Hey - good to see you again. Would you like some water while you're waiting?'. I left - went across the street where they made me feel like a valued customer. How this place has such glowing reviews is beyond me. My cut was fine, my color was not close to what I asked for. But by far the worst part was the owner, who was just horrible to her staff. I listened to two hours of her barking at them, making snarky comments, and shaming them for various transgressions (wanting to turn the air down, accusing them of making appointments at the wrong time, and saying things like "how do you not know that by now" to staff that were clearly newer). I've never wanted to leave a salon so badly in my life. I can go somewhere else to get my hair dyed the right color, which isn't a big deal, but I feel so bad for anyone who has to put up with that attitude day in and day out, it really creates a negative atmosphere that doesn't encourage repeat business. read more

Dina is, hands down, the best stylist I've ever had. She gives consistently gorgeous haircuts and color. Having naturally lighter hair color, other stylists have bleached out my hair in the past.
