I live in Castle Rock and wanted to try a different breakfast location. My son and I drove the short twenty minute drive and decided to give this charming restaurant a try. To start, the portions are large so if you leave hungry it's your own fault. I opted for the chicken fried steak and my son had one of their breakfast skillets. Both offerings were prepared quickly,arrived at our table hot and ready to eat and were absolutely delicious. Presentation was excellent as well. If you're in the area or can make the journey, you will not regret the experience you will have at this wonderful restaurant. They open at 7 a little earlier than some other nearby breakfast restaurants. I'm historic downtown Monument Colorado... so you'd have to be looking for it . The Cup is only a few minutes away from newer down town Monument. Locals seemed to storm the door promptly at 7 , which Dad and I considered a good omen . The menu has all the breakfast and brunch essentials, service is homely and prompt, and the food may not be something to write home about, but it fresh, flavorful and very filling. We've been going here for years for local eating and it's always been great but recently their service has declined drastically. We are always waiting 30 minutes to order food. Today we were told the kitchen was backed up and we couldn't order at all until they caught up. The waiters/waitresses were just standing around as it wasn't that busy. We had a large group but the tables around us were already served. The kitchen should not have been that backed up with what little people were in there. Sadly, won't be going back. Been going there for 25+ years. Coffee, meh. Side of bacon arrived at the table 5 minutes before 2 pancakes. Pancakes were not hot. Manager came by to see if we wanted syrup and butter. Odd! Nothing was served warm, even syrup was cool. When we got our bill it was $5 per pancake, plus an extra $1.50 for syrup. Their pancakes batter is nothing like it used to be. Very sweet and cake now, clearly a mix they only need to add water to. At least the bacon was still good quality. read more

However, the food can be hit or miss. I like their skillets, but their potatoes can be a little dry, and the proportion of potatoes to the other skillet ingredients can be unbalanced. Been going to Coffee Cup for years, usually on Saturday mornings during the Farmers Market, Friday mornings when the Market is closed for the season. My wife and I have always had a pleasant experience until last Saturday morning when they got our order wrong. We went ahead and completed the correct part of our order and left the incorrect portion, explaining to an older lady when she came to clear our plates about the error. She didn't say, we're sorry, apologize for the inconvenience, nothing. Nothing! The man liked the coffee it had notes of citrus and on the acidic side ( which the man prefers) not my favorite I prefer dark roast nonetheless it was a good coffee if that is your preference. The skillet which we split and I'm glad we did was big enough for the two of us. Without asking they brought an extra plate.
