They do, however, serve some of the best fries I've had, which rather steals the hot dog's thunder. Would've liked relish, but who cares ! The coffee was excellent, and the shakes were gloriously large, thick, and unapologetically milky, complete with a proper straw sturdy enough to handle the challenge. The huckleberry milkshake and berry crumble were both spot on. The only downside was the service. There seemed to be a bit of a rush to clear plates, even while people were still eating, which adds an unexpected sense of urgency to a casual meal. Most of the staff appeared to be trainees, which may explain the occasional rough edges. With a little more polish, the experience would match the quality of the milkshakes rather nicely.

This review is for our dinner our first night at the lodge, which was delicious and so fun. First of all, it's stated on their menu that their goal is to make 100%of their dishes in-house, which is admirable. I had a pulled pork sandwich and my partner had the burger, which he said was very good. The sandwich I ordered was so piled with pulled pork and slaw that there was no way I could pick it up, but ate it with a fork - very tender and delicious. They also have fun house sodas, like a huckleberry vanilla Dr. Pepper which I wish I could drink every day. My partner had the campfire root beer which had marshmallow syrup and something else and indeed was borderline like a s'mores soda. The highlight of our visit was our server, Kyle, who was so personable and friendly. He had just spent time in Chicago, so connected over that and he gave us some tips on where to stay in Cincinnati as I've always wanted to do a weekend there. Really a fabulous experience our first night at the lodge and nice to have an option that's low-key and casual.

The meat was cooked perfectly and served with a burgundy reduction on the side (there is a choice of sauce) and charred broccolini. I ordered mashed potatoes with it and got orzo in error, so then I was served a giant bowl of mashed potatoes that I really wish I could have finished. We had the cream of wild mushroom soup to start and it was amazing! My only beef is that they didn't have any fresh horseradish which should be a given with prime rib. The room is lovely - what you expect at the lodge - with an incredible view of the range and all the tables at the windows are 2-tops, so we lucked out. Our server was Leah and she was quite friendly and turns out she is close friends with Kyle who we had a great time with at the Pioneer Grill. She was also really sweet when we couldn't decide if we wanted another glass of wine, she offered to split us one and brought us 2 half glasses. They have different menus for lunch and dinner and saw they have butternut squash soup at lunch, which is my favorite. Hopefully we will be back at the lodge sometime and can try the lunch!

Dinner With a (Partially Obstructed) View…read more... Dining at the Mural Room is something of a rite of passage for many visitors staying at Jackson Lake Lodge, and I can certainly understand the appeal. The setting is iconic, the murals themselves are impressive, and the restaurant is clearly intended to be the signature dining experience within the lodge. Unfortunately, while we enjoyed aspects of our meal, the overall experience didn't quite justify the premium positioning or pricing. The food itself was generally well executed, although the portions/sides were on the weaker side. The trout was nicely prepared, and the whole roasted chicken was flavorful and satisfying. The kitchen appears capable of producing quality dishes, which made the children's menu somewhat puzzling. It consisted primarily of the usual suspects--burgers, chicken tenders, hot dogs, and grilled cheese. Given the number of families staying at Jackson Lake Lodge and the thoughtfulness displayed in options on the adult menu, I expected something a bit more creative or reflective of the region. Cocktails proved to be somewhat hit or miss. The Huckleberry Lemonade was interesting and enjoyable, and several of the house cocktails utilizing herb- and flower-infused spirits were unique and well executed. The bar program seems to shine most when leaning into creative, regional-inspired drinks that the bartender(s) can simply execute to menu. On the other hand, the more traditional cocktails we sampled, including a Manhattan and a Martini, were underwhelming and suggested that the bar is considerably stronger at crafting house specialties than executing classics or going "off menu". We did not sample dessert, so I can't comment on that aspect of the menu. Service landed squarely in the middle for me. It was good by the standards of many restaurants and certainly pleasant enough, but it felt a step below what I expected from a restaurant marketed as the flagship dining venue of a premier national park lodge. Similarly, while the murals and surrounding architecture remain impressive, guests dining in the evening should be aware that the window shades are often lowered to reduce sun glare, which substantially diminishes what many people likely envision as the marquee attraction: enjoying dinner while taking in unobstructed views of the Tetons. Pricing also felt ambitious relative to portion sizes. Nothing was egregious, but there was a persistent sense throughout the meal that the restaurant was asking guests to pay a premium for the setting and reputation as much as for the dining experience itself. Final Thoughts: The Mural Room might be worth experiencing once, particularly for guests staying at Jackson Lake Lodge or those interested in its history. The food is competently prepared, the setting remains memorable, and some of the more inventive cocktails are genuinely enjoyable. However, I'd encourage diners to calibrate expectations. In my view, the Mural Room succeeds more as an iconic lodge dining room and experience than as a destination restaurant. Further, I might point you to the nearby Heron Lounge for equivalent views and service as well as a more reasonably priced (and maybe more approachable) menu. -AC

Delicious food but extremely slow service…read more This was hands down the best meal in the Yellowstone/Grand Teton area my friends and I had. We stopped for breakfast on our last day in Grand Teton before driving down to Salt Lake City, and I'm glad we weren't in a rush, since the whole experience took a lot longer than expected. We arrived on a Sunday morning a little after 10, but was told that because they were running behind in the kitchen, it would be a while before they could seat us. We waited for maybe 15 minutes to get seated, and then another 15 minutes until we were even given menus. I went with the Rustler's Round Up ($11), which is a breakfast platter that comes with two eggs any style, hash browns, bacon/sausage, and biscuit with gravy. It took almost 45 minutes for us to get our food, but everything was done extremely well. The hash browns, which were actually just tater tots, were crispy on the outside, the sausage was plump and juicy, the eggs were scrambled just right without being overcooked, and the biscuit and gravy were extremely satisfying. My friends and I all really enjoyed our food. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for good food in the area who isn't in a rush.

The only reason to visit this establishment is because you are visiting the Heart 6 Ranch. End of the season and closing soon for the winter so they were out of a lot of things, especially no beer or wine. Service is rough. No frills. One guy who stood behind the bar and took our order. Asked what we should order since so much was unavailable. He suggested the burger so, the burger it was. Fries were bad and after a few, left the rest. Burger was just ok. Filled a void but nothing great.

The floors…read morehadn't been vacuumed, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting with pubic hairs on the vanity and toilet, gross stuff stuck to the floors, and toilette paper in the toilet. So we didn't even bother bringing in our stuff and went to the manager, who was very nice and sent housekeeping over. We sat in the blue heron lounge waiting. When we went back it looked slightly better however the bathroom floor was still dirty. The closet floor had dead bugs and debri. There were coffee rings in one of the coffee cups. We began to wonder if the sheets were fresh, as there was actually debris under the covers. There was a large buildup of dust on the valances, shades and fan. It was so disgusting we actually considered eating the 1100+ dollars we spent on our 4-night stay, and going elsewhere. The floors were still not adequately vacuumed. There was thick dust all over everything including the walls, ceiling, valances, lamps--EVERYTHING! I took a rag and got a bunch of it myself. After I finished the rag was black. We never bothered unpacking our 3 suitcases, because it was just too disgusting, and we were afraid of bedbugs. Aside from the absolutely unsanitary condition of the cottage, the place looked like it hadn't been updated since the 1970s. The vanities and closet shelving was very beat up and dated. The resort does have a lot of redeeming qualities, though. The location is right in Teton Park. The lobby is very large with copious amounts of comfy seating and tables, and a view of the Teton Mountain range that simply can't be beat by any other lodge. The outside seating area is great to hang out, play cards, have a drink, and take in the magnificent vista. The pool area was also very nice. The rafting/lunch excursion we went on was well done, and our guide, Matt was great at what he does and very entertaining. The lodge offers a bunch of different excursions. The staff was very nice and very accommodating. The food and drinks were OK, but not great. All that said, it was really hard to get past the unsanitary, outdated cottage. I would like to address the management/executive staff directly, in hopes that they may make improvements. Cleaning issues/suggestions: - The perimeter of the floors were gross, with thick buildup of dust and debris. - The corners of the room and under the tables and chairs were equally gross. - The valances, walls, rafters, and lamps all had dust and cobwebs. - The ceiling fan had a quarter inch of dust on the blades. - The vent cover of the fan in the bathroom had so much dust buildup, I'm surprised any air could escape. It was also extremely noisy and needs to be replaced. - The bathroom has mildew on all the grout, and the shower also has mildew. - The closet shelving was dirty. - The stone entryway was never cleaned during our entire stay. The debris that was there upon our arrival was still there when we left. - There were cobwebs, dust and dead bugs between the windows and the screens. - The coffee cups and glasses were not clean. We wound up hiding cleaning and hiding them from housekeeping, so we didn't have to clean them every day. - The coffee creamer was rancid - The lobby was almost always dirty with debris all over the floors and tables. Only time it looked somewhat clean was early morning. I suggest you hire a housekeeping quality control person to randomly check rooms after they have been cleaned. Also, you should consider assigning at least one person to continually clean the lobby throughout the day. The cottage has great bones, but needs updating in some key areas. Amenity suggestions: - Update the dilapidated bathrooms, vanities, and plumbing fixtures. - Update the dilapidated closet shelving - Update the entryway and bathroom flooring with a grout-less alternative such as marble tile or laminate. I gave this lodge a 2-star rating, but it could easily become a 3-star with resolution of the cleaning issues, and a 5-star with the resolution of the cleaning issues and the updating of the worn out, dated amenities. Doing all the above would transform the cottages into high-end units, which would command higher rates, and improve guest satisfaction. We own a rental property in the Pocono Mountains, and I can tell you that updated amenities is second only to providing a clean environment, which is paramount. Our cottage had neither of these attributes. I truly hope this helps improve the lodge accommodations, and also hope it helps others, when planning a trip to Teton.
