How did I not know this place was here? Seriously! They have a great selection. They also have really affordable prices. They have all sorts of different skin sizes and color options at any price point you might be looking for. They also offer an assortment of tools, project kits, and other accessories that will prove helpful. Eight years later, my turn. I took a Saturday drive out to the shop, located just east of downtown LA. Guess who was still there - Mr. Espinosa himself, still after all that time. I wanted a denim vest (old school) with leather trim/accents and found something off the rack. Fits perfectly, the first size he grabbed. Super happy with it, service was great and they have a ton of jackets and vests in stock, also tees, belts etc. Walk into biker history from the 1970s. It's truly a hoot he's still there and quite the character. Top quality handmade garments are a thing of the past - not here! Made in the USA with love. Expensive! But well worth the investment.

So, as a surprise for my sister, I went to Jackie's shop to look into getting a bag made for my sister. The shop was filled with her leather goods and she had a variety of leathers from which to choose. I decided on a cognac colored bag for her. I asked Jackie to make the exact bag style that she saw - the fold over triangle sling bag. Since I was there, I got one for myself made as well. The following week, the bags were ready to be picked up. They were beautifully made, despite an issue regarding the placement of the zipper. And, even without any specific treatment of the leather, the bags are durable and stains seem to disappear on them. My sister loves the bag and we get tons of compliments on these bags when we carry them. Yes, her work is expensive but it's unique and in my opinion, very well worth it. There were times when I worried about it survival. Because being a cowboy hasn't always been popular. And that's what the general store specializes in. Cowboy gear for women, men and children.. Well, like a popularity certainly not the case anymore at the general store. They have incredible merchandise for both men and women and a few for kids. Their selection makes western wear look cool and stylish. There were definitely items in there I wanted to buy. They had some gorgeous clothes for women. Styles to put wranglers as a shame. These clothes are authentic and yet made of great quality fabrics and materials. I don't think I've ever seen a greater selection of cowboy boots for women and kids. The price goes from about $2000 all the way down to $200. So there's something for everyone. The clothing line for women is very western as you would expect. But the quality is absolutely amazing. Service is really funny. The people waiting on you are definitely a throwback from a different era. They most certainly aren't used to servicing women like me, but they did so graciously with a smile. It's kind of like having your grumpy old grandpa waiting on you, but you know he adores you no matter what. When I left, they were all smiling, and it was clear that they were proud to work there. I love the decor, the store and the vintage posters. It's like stepping back in time. Please go visit the general store and all the other merchants along that block.
