Remote set of rooms and cottages in High Warden, about 3 miles down a narrow country lane from Chesters Roman fort and the Hadrian's Wall Path.
We paid ahead, and let ourself into a charming room with garden view. Spacious and peaceful, with WiFi, a smart TV, and coffee maker, but no a/c or fan (it was a heatwave), no refrigerator. Also no food on premises and closest is a nice pub a mile further down the narrow lane--not a place I'd want to walk at night for fear of a fast-moving car and no place to go.
A bit of a scare when a bat flew in the window to our room at dusk, but we managed to get him out with a towel and no harm done. read more
