Lovely friendly atmosphere, we got a warm welcome when we arrived. They do a good range of food served Mon-Sat 12pm -8pm and Sunday Lunch 12pm - 3pm. I have not tried a Sunday lunch yet but have been midweek when the food was lovely, generous portions! I thought the cost of the main meals were very good and were what I expect from a local pub. Talking to the lady behind the bar she informed us that they have just added some B&B accommodation, this will come in handy for relatives visiting us from Yorkshire, a bit different from the usual premier inn. The pub itself has a very nice lounge, very relaxing with fireplace. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and this has a warm atmosphere. There is a separate bar area which also has a nice feel to it. I will come back here again, and although I do not live in Ellington, i wish this was my local! Plenty of parking outside the pub. This was one of the most delightful accommodation I had for my entire trip. Yvette and Norman were very welcoming. I was practically made to feel not like a paying guest, but rather as part of their family. Rooms are very reasonably priced, very clean and tidy. Breakfast is included, and includes an assortment of cereal, various fruit, juice, a full English breakfast, with eggs done any way you prefer. Yvette is a chef by training, and this shows with the quality of the cooked food. They have 2 adorable cocker spaniels. When first entering, they will bark. But once you're in, they're the most gentle, loving dogs one can imagine. Their favorite pastime appears to be having a had placed on them for petting. The location of the B&B is perfect. Only a few blocks away from the center of town and the train station, it is located on a quiet side street. There is actually a fair amount to do in Carlisle, most notably the Cathedral, Castle, and the Tullie House Museum, all located within a short walk of Langleigh House. Carlisle also has a nice assortment of good restaurants. I am looking forward to my next visit here.

The interior is immaculate: beautiful modern decor that isn't flashy, nor does it detract from the architecture of the building. Excellent service: Leo is an attentive and friendly host who goes to great lengths to look after the comfort of his guests. Good food: Breakfast is generous and hearty Whenever friends come to town, I recommend that they stay here rather than with me. Our bathroom wasn't en-suit but was just a few steps away from the room & was a large spacious room, a bath robe was provided to wear should you get short in the night. My only criticism of this facility was no shower gel/conditioner was provided but a nice pink hand soap was. Full Breakfast was nice & served on burn your hand plates, together with cereal, orange juice & all the toast you could eat. Parking is provided at the front & is just 2 mins from the town centre. Mike & Joan where perfect hosts as where the other staff we came into contact with in this warm & cosy establishment. Price is the same as all the others in street. I would use this place again.

My wife and I vacationed here for our honeymoon, and we were absolutely thrilled with The Ryelands. Lyn is personable and very professional. She exudes a genuine concern and care for her guests. The rooms are fantastically comfortable, and extremely well situated within walking distance of "downtown" Grasmere. Our room, the Silver Howe, has a lovely view with an ever so faint glimpse of Grasmere Lake. The "negative" aspects of this property are actually what makes it wonderful as well. The flat screen television is VERY small with a limited channel selection, and is not easily visible while lying down on the bed (it should be mounted on the wall for better viewing). This is actually a positive, since one shouldn't expect to spend much time in the room, and time would be better spent reading Wordsworth than watching a rerun of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" The staircase leading up to the bedrooms is moderately steep and narrow--a daunting gauntlet for large suitcases or obese rear ends. And don't expect to wheel a suitcase or anything up the gravel driveway to the property. It makes a lovely crunching sound as you walk, but it's impossible to drag anything with wheels smaller than a moving dolly or hand truck. Still, the property is utterly gorgeous. The owners/operators are personable, helpful and inviting. Their breakfasts are delicious. The towels are surprisingly soft, and smell of soothing lavender. It's easy to get "caught up" in the romantic feel of Grasmere from The Ryelands. I HIGHLY recommend The Ryelands over ANY other property in Grasmere, including the famous Wordsworth Hotel. I would award The Ryelands a 5-star rating if: 1. The flat screen television was wall-mounted and maybe connected to a simple DVD player. It's a seemingly silly request, but it's what I would expect from a 5-star establishment. 2. Breakfast service ends slightly too early (around 9 or 10 AM). I would expect a 5-star establishment to provide a simple, continental breakfast option for guests who choose to dine after those hours. 3. The downstairs office uses a secured wireless internet connection, but no access is provided for guests. I would expect a 5-star establishment to provide or charge for in-room internet access. With the relatively low cost of wireless-N routers, I do not believe this to be an unreasonable request.

Located just a few minutes walk from tranquil Derwent Water and the bustling Main Street, this B & B was a perfect getaway in the heart of the Lake District. New owners Ged and Carol have done updating to the premises, including a gorgeous new bath in largest suite, Cat Bells. The hosts were lovely and hospitable folks who were knowledgeable about the local terrain and very fun to trade stories of their various adventures around the world. Carol's breakfasts were also top notch, and I looked forward to our delicious treats every morning. Great value and location, immaculate rooms, delicious food, and wonderful hosts. Why would you book anywhere else in the Lake District?

I fully endorse this for a Melrose Bed and Breakfast. Check before booking if it matters, I do not think breakfast is served before 8:00 am. Helen was a most pleasant hostess.
