If you want a friendly B and B, with owners that care about their guests then this is the one for…read moreyou. I first went to daresfield over ten years ago and return every year. I have introduced over ten friends to it and they have all returned. The owners welcome you into their home with a cuppa offered whenever you return from a walk. Brian is part of mountain rescue so helps us plan routes, and ensures we are safe. We have shared tales, watched movies, and they look after my dog when I go to the pub. It is home from home for anyone who likes a relaxed homely atmosphere whilst on their hols.

We found and booked Daresfield B&B on the iKnow website. On arrival we were greeted by the lady…read morethat lives there and shown to our room. She then asked us if we'd like a cup of tea which we thought was very kind and welcoming of her so we obliged. We dropped our bags off in our room which was immaculately clean and had one of the most amazing views of the Newland fells including Cats Bells. After 10 minutes the lady knocked on the door and told us our tea was ready and was in the lounge. So we went through and realised it was their personal living room, Old Mr Jones was sat their with his feet up, Dotty the dog at the side of him (not great if you are allergic to dogs, or simply dislike them, fortunately we do like them!), and we had to make small talk with the two owners whilst drinking our tea. Although the owners were very nice people we would have liked to have at least been asked if we wanted to do this or to have our tea in private. We're both private people and like to keep ourselves to ourselves on holiday. Anyway after we drank our tea we freshened up (very clean bathroom with bath and shower but normal see through windows with no curtains so no privacy) and had a walk into Keswick. It's about 15 minutes from the B&B down a railway track (or a 2 minute drive). We had a lovely walk around Derwent Water and then headed back to the B&B for a late afternoon nap. We were both very tired as we'd not had much sleep the night before (stayed with friends / clocks went forward, etc). When we got there the owners were blasting out Classic FM at a ridiculous volume. Their hifi system in the living room was right behind our bedroom wall. They knew we had come back as they had seen us and yet they didn't have the respect to turn their music down. Neither of us could get any sleep and we ended up having a shower and heading back out again. We had a nice night out on the town, found a few late opening pubs and then got lost walking back to the B&B. We should have checked out the roads into town while it was day light) rather than relying on the cycle paths. We eventually got back about 1.30am. There was no heating on. The rooms were freezing and the duvet covers extremely thin. My wife found a spare duvet in the wardrobe so we used that but it was covered in dust and made us both sneeze. We we got barely any sleep until the very early hours of the morning and ended up missing breakfast by an hour. We apologised and we was eventually offered the cereal and toast. I was that p****d off by the experience that I just said forget it, paid up and we left. I wouldn't recommend this B&B to anyone unless they like the idea of simply staying in someone's house and are willing to put up with loud music throughout the day and early evening, as well as freezing through the night.

Badgers Wood was our 3rd stop on our 3 week trip. We were immediately met by Andrew upon arrival…read moreand he directed us to a parking spot right next to the house. He took us to our beautiful, spotlessly clean guest rooms. Every amenity you could possibly think of was available, Andrew and Anne have remembered everything. Comfortable beds, nicely ironed linens, beautiful towels with soaps, lotions, the bathrooms are sparkling clean, trays to put our wet shoes on, refrigerated waters, sewing kits, windows that opened to beautiful views, roomy closets, I could go on and on. In the morning they had your personalized, made to order, delicious breakfast ready for you upon arrival to the lovely, airy breakfast room. Both hosts are very warm and welcoming, Andrew is full of wonderful suggestions and very helpful while Anne is busy preparing the breakfast, really lovely. The two hosts are extremely hard working, they are world travelers so they know what is appreciated and it shows in their perfect hospitality and accommodations. On our 3 week trip Badger Woods was by far our loveliest of guest houses. We are so glad we stayed a couple of nights. It was so clean and comfortable that we were able to really rest and catch up. Also, Keswick is a charming little city with great restaurants in the Lake District, pretty lakes that you can walk around amongst the sheep. Highly recommend a couple nights in Badger Woods. Thank you Andrew and Anne. I would give you more stars if possible.
